Hi All! I realised this maybe an old subject but hope to hear from anyone who lives or who knows the following areas : Bampton, Hemyock/Uffculme, Tiverton, Crediton, Thorverton

I have 2 kids, 7 yrs old and 3 yrs old, so hope to hear about schools too . Dh and I have been on 2 reccie trips so far but haven't yet made up our mind as to where to live. We both liked Bampton and Tiverton. Any insight on any of the above towns/villages much appreciated...

Tiverton = crime centre of mid Devon. My mother's family are from just down the road near Cullompton.

Booge, thanks for that!

Tiverton is as rough as hell. I witnessed a cracking fist fight between teenaged girls in Cullumpton a few weeks ago, it was 11am in the morning. I think there are a lot of new houses there but no facilities for the young'uns. Crediton seems nice.

I think that it depends on what you are looking for. The villages towards Exmouth are really nice and North Devon is lovely in a 'land that time forgot' sort of way.

Do you need to be in a particular area for work?

I only spent 1/2 a day in Tiverton so that obviously wasn't enough to get a feel for the place. I don't have to be anywhere in particular as i work from home, though i have to travel to Reading occasionally for work. Important for me is good broadband speed, good or reasonable schools and a family-friendly place. Thanks for the feedback I got so far - this is all helpful!

Crediton is nice. good secondary school, or so I'm told. near exeter, so you can get on the train to reading. nice local shops.
