Wow! We filled a thread!

Hope you all find this new one!

Our evening was great, had a lovely time. kids were all very well behaved. dd sleeping in our bedroom is a nightmare tho - she's sooo noisy!

we need a 3rd bedroom

we're off for Sunday lunch at The Botanist later YUM!

2cute, we're scheduled to have skids that weekend but not confirmed yet. if we do, not sure if i could come and don't want to invite 2 extra kids and dh as that'd be rather cheeky! if we don't then we'll be there

it's far too early for a Sunday!

lots of welsh surnames begin with P because the welsh used a patronymic naming system and "ap" meant son of...

so

david ap richard became David Prichard
fred ap Rees = Fred Price/Preese
owen ap Harri - Owen Parry/Parri

also P became bastardised into a B over the years eg Bevan = ap Evan

Lots of these new surnames then became boys names.

Did you really want to know all that? [musing emoticon]

trying2bgood · 04/02/2007 21:05

Okay, here's my ten pence worth:

Monti - yes
Adoni - not sure
Kami - like it
Tarwin - no
Miro - no
Myall - like - how is this pronounched?
Coorain - no
Pier - yes
Marloo/Merloo - no, too much joke milage in it
Pindar - no
Parri - yes
Nardu - OK
Dheran - OK
Berrigan - like it, unusual

suejonezisdanielsmummy · 04/02/2007 21:05

Also why there are so many Jones, Evans, Davies etc in Wales - its and anglicised version of the same thing - son of John, son of Evan, son of David...

suejonezisdanielsmummy · 04/02/2007 21:08

and did you know....

that under welsh law the children always inherited estates equally not this English oldest son rubbish. But was the downfall of the once great Welsh nation as everytime a Prince or strong leader died, all their land (and therefore powerbase) was carved up again.

And in the celtic clans, women can inherit cheftain positions in their own right - although Boudicca was married to a chief she actually inherited the cheiftain of the Iceni in her own right from her father.

suejonezisdanielsmummy · 04/02/2007 21:10

are you all stunned into silence by my immense knowledge? Or have y'all dozed off?

Hey before I forget - where's Yanksuponthames?

mellow2 · 04/02/2007 21:16

t2bg and quokka,
We've started househunting this weekend and I think we're going to focus on the Northfields area.

Does anyone know any estate agents they've had decent experience with and the ones I should steer clear of?

mellow2 · 04/02/2007 21:17

Sfx,
I've always wanted to try chili chocolate. What is it like? Where can you buy it?

Paddlechick666 · 04/02/2007 21:18

fascinating stuff Sue, and you're right about the rugby!

i had an email from yanks a bit before xmas, she was off to their US house for some maintenance but due back around NY if I recall.........

evening all, dh took 3 hours to get the kids home but i just had a nice email from sds1. we had a fabulous weekend.

think the agreement is 1st w/end of the month.

both dsc took calenders home of dd that I had made for xmas presents. apparently BM was all smiles and sweetness till dsc started raving about how gorgeous dd is and showing calenders etc!

ha ha ha ha! HA HA HA!!!

i know this isn't nice on my part but truly i cannot believe that she cannot occasionally realise what a witch she is.

to intentionally keep them from their daddy and half sister. to deny them the pleasant weekends we enjoy, the occasional treat, the inclusion in a wider family, the activities they get to experience etc.

evil woman, deserves to feel exactly as she did when she saw how happy they were.

i'm blimmin knackered! bedtime soon!

foxabout2pop · 05/02/2007 05:51

2 cute _ I wanted to know that but was afraid to ask (about the chili chocolate). Any chocolate is of interest to me though.

Slinkstar - you have the same combination of kids that I am about to have: I have DS1 6, DD 3 and soon to be born DS2. How do you find they get on?

Morning everyone else...

ANYONE NOT VOTED YET? (see below)

Paddlechick666 · 05/02/2007 07:21

morning!

well, i finally had a decent sleep last night. light was off at 10pm and altho i did wake a couple of times i went straight back off. dd woke a bit early but that's good coz i've got to get to office today.

no heating or hot water first thing tho - that's what you get when you tell dh to put the heating on in the middle of the day. he's stuffed the clock right up!

2cute, like your observation on witches.

btw, foxie, i can get to West Middx on my bike in less time than it takes to listen to Bohemian Rhapsody. So maybe you'd better come camp out here!

Would love to have your ds over next time skids are here btw. Deff planning a trip to Science Museum so I'll keep you posted.

Poor dd was a bit confused this morning when there was only boring old Mummy to get her up. Kept wandering between the bedrooms saying "all gone" in her own little way awwwww.

righty-ho, full day ahead so catchya all later.

morning all

2cute & foxie - even before i tried chilli choc i was putting cocoa on my normal chilli con carne (or the fake veggie stuff) yummie!
it is really chilli gorgeous on bitter dark choc and your tongue burns as it melts in a wonderful warming way, oh i love it so!

paddle my dd likes a full house her teen cousins just adore her and my sisters and aunt are completely besotted, dd is always super delighted to see them

hello everyone else too

Paddlechick666 · 05/02/2007 08:39

i'm not a chilli person at all but i have heard that chilli chocolate is fabulous. anyone read Chocolat? isn't it an ingredient in the hot chocolate that the Indians gave her father?

foxie, glad you like the clothes. i thought you might like a few bits. always nice to have something "new" towards the end coz you can never justify buying more for the last few weeks!

sfx, dd has been adored all weekend especially as we had a family lunch yesterday with my lot too. at least she's with CM today so will have her boys to play with later.

Quokka, we deff need a catch up. Buzz me tonight after about 8pm if you like ;-)

have fun all

Hello all, gosh another thread! Not been on here for a while, been a really weird week. My BIL is in hospital with appendicitis, the daughter of a friend died and another friend is getting married in an Italian castle!

Moving swiftly on (before I depress everyone on this fine Monday morning)...chilli chocolate? Bleurrggh! I love chilli and I deffo love chocolate but not in combination.

Paddle, I've read Chocolat but prefer some of Joanne Harris's later books, particularly Blackberry Wine and Gentlemen & Players. Her compliation of short stories was pretty good too.

Foxie - how on earth did you work out the scoring system? It hurts my feeble brain. My 2 cents worth..

Monti - yes
Adoni - no, too close to Adonis
Kami - yes
Tarwin - no
Miro - no, thinking of biro
Myall - yes
Coorain - yes
Pier - no
Marloo/Merloo - no
Pindar - yes
Parri - yes
Nardu - yes
Dheran - yes
Berrigan - no

Paddlechick666 · 05/02/2007 11:01

snow, sounds like a tough week. hope your BIL is on the mend and condolences to your friend.

I really like Joanne Harris, Blackberry Wine was the first I read. 5 Quarters is very very good. Wasn't so keen on Gentleman and Players tho. Coastliners was a bit below par too.

Can I just tell everyone Vertbaudet's winter sale is nearly over. I've just bought a cardigan, a pair of trousers, pack of 2 t-shirts, pack of 3 t shirts for £15!! Seriously considered a winter coat in a 3yr old's but resisted!

(Un)Fortunately lack of sizes stopped me going too mad!

OP posts:
lemonaid · 05/02/2007 11:12

lemonaid's alternative scoring scheme...

Counting
"Yes" "Like" or "OK" as +1
"Maybe" or "Indifferent" as 0
"No" "Nope" ot "Yuk" as -1

we have, in order from most popular to least popular:

  1. Dheran (9)
2=. Kami (8) 2=. Myall (8)
  1. Monti (4)
5=. Berrigan (2) 5=. Miro (2)
  1. Nardu (1)
  2. Parri (-1)
9=. Adoni (-2) 9=. Coorain (-2) 11=. Marloo/Merloo (-5) 11=. Tarwin (-5) 13=. Pier (-6) 13=. Pindar (-6)

so Dheran, Kami and Myall are running away with it at the moment.
