Hellooooooo!
No one seemed to be around on the other thread, so I thought I'd start another. Is there anyone out there?

[hopefull looking emoticon]

I used to live in Watford...

fortyplus · 04/01/2007 00:46

I live just outside Hemel but would be far too embarrassed to meet anyone in RL!

anorak · 04/01/2007 00:48

hello?

Is that you cantsleep?

anorak · 04/01/2007 00:55

Sorry have to go to bed. Will check in the morning.

CantWaitForTheSnow · 04/01/2007 01:08

No, its not CSWS.

There's a lot of people up and about around here at this time of night. I went to try and catch our resident mice population as I didn't think there would be such a quick response.

fortyplus · 04/01/2007 01:13

Yes - and you'll get the American lot on if you give the thread a different title

CantWaitForTheSnow · 04/01/2007 01:18

Maybe I should start a 'best way to catch the little blighters' thread

OP posts:
fortyplus · 04/01/2007 01:21

Corner them with a shoe box and put the lid on at the last minute!

CantWaitForTheSnow · 04/01/2007 01:27

Trouble is, when I do catch them I'll have a dilema - to release them into the garage or the shed.

[starts pondering which one would be warmer and more comfortable for them, would they like a full cooked breakfast tomorrow morning or toast and cereal]

Am too soft for my own good

OP posts:
fortyplus · 04/01/2007 01:31

You have to take them at least 100 metres away or they'll come straight back in! Free them into the wild - you can always chuck a few raisins down so they've got something to nibble!

fortyplus · 04/01/2007 01:33

ps I used to have horses... One winter I'd used up nearly all the hay. Went up to the hay loft and there were just 2 bales left. Lifted up the top one and underneath there was a little hollow with a nest of about 6 baby mice - sooooo sweet.
So I carefully put the bale back and went off in my car to get some more - for about 4 quid each! Soppy tart

Quootiepie · 04/01/2007 01:37

Glad you did that fortyplus - I think mice, and baby mice are sooooooooooooooooo cute! I can imagine them, all asleep

CantWaitForTheSnow · 04/01/2007 01:43

Tried to teach the dogs to be big and bold and stand up for themselves, but they're just too soft and share all their food.

OP posts:
fortyplus · 04/01/2007 01:49

Totally silly, really - the little buggers were probably down in the feed store a few weeks later pooing in the feed bins. But they looked so sweet I couldn't have done them harm.

Quootiepie · 04/01/2007 01:50

I used to "accidently" drop some feed on the floor of the tack room Couldn't bear them going hungry!

CantWaitForTheSnow · 04/01/2007 01:55

Yesterday we discovered they have eaten their way through 2 golf bags, several pieces of clothing, 1 bag of crisps, 1 swiss roll and 1 packet of custard.

There's nothing little about the mice who live here !

OP posts:
fortyplus · 04/01/2007 10:55

Quootie - once when we'd had freezing weather for a couple of weeks (before climate change, presumably!) I went into the stable in the morning and found a dead rat drowned in the water bucket! Bleeurgh!

Quootiepie · 04/01/2007 16:33

Rats are different

mistletoemania · 04/01/2007 16:48

might meet up but only if you promise not to talk about mice no i am serious.

CantWaitForTheSnow · 04/01/2007 20:07

Just found evidence of rats in the garage. Do you trap or use poison?

Mistltoemania - I'm sure we can do that!

OP posts:
Quootiepie · 04/01/2007 20:13

I dunno about rats. I guess trap... or lure away?

mistletoemania · 04/01/2007 21:16

cannot believe i am talking about rats!!! what about a cat like a farm cat as in pets are outside and not in the house. I await the backlash of that statement. anyway, you could always hire out a big cat from whipsnade hee hee only joking!!! i have a very strange sense of humour by times!!!

failing that rat-catching people ..good luck

CanSleepWellSometimes · 04/01/2007 21:27

Oops - thought I was looking at a meet up thread, but it appears that I've stumbled upon the Pied Piper of Hamlin by mistake.

fortyplus · 04/01/2007 23:55

My cat is a lazy arsed softie... until it catches sight of the local wildlife! She caught a rat once - don't they say that in this country you're never more than 10 yards away from a rat? (DH is snoring upstairs )
