Yeah, I bet they've all got raving heads this morning

sfx/mellow: I think we've deffo got the makings of a bookswap haven't we?

How about on Saturday 9 Dec at mine at about 11am? If you can both do that date then a couple of the others might join us.

We could maybe post some ideas beforehand about wants/what we've got to swap. I'm dying to find someone to read the Bookseller of Kabul LOL

I have a really good Fay Weldon too (new one) about a Polish nanny who turns out to be sinister!

ComeOVeneer · 19/11/2006 11:32

It was lovely to meet some of you last night. I had a great time, but couldn't find the others I was meant to be getting a cab home with so had to fork out for one on my own. Looking forward to meeting you all again when I finally moe.

ComeOVeneer · 19/11/2006 11:32

moe = move.

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 19/11/2006 12:11

It's my birthday on the 9th so can we try the week after that or is that too close to Christmas?

I would love to do a book swap but stocks are low as I don't have that many as I've just done a clearout before dd was born. I'll go through my boxes and see what I've got.

pudding77 · 19/11/2006 15:28

Hi all, I've not bothered reading through what' I've missed so someone will have to do a catch up for me

Is there any gossip yet from last night?

I have seen bits about a book swap? I'd be interested but I just couldn't give my books away as I love rereading them! Could I do a book borrow instead?? I'll happily take any books off your hands though if you like

2Cute · 19/11/2006 15:45

Hello all! I'm back. Well, we got back last weekend but both DS and I were ill all this week with an infection so just got on to MN now.

Hope everyone is well. Could someone kindly update me on what's been happening the past 3 weeks?

sfxmum · 19/11/2006 19:36

so what no pictures from the drunken conga line?

about the book swap i admit i thought it would mostly be borrowing i am quite attached to some books but can easily let go of others, but those i would probably not recommend/

foxie 9th OK but will wait on others. interested in the bookseller too.

mrsB do you read cyberpunk too?

was reminded today of the authors who make me laugh and write really well, my beloved Robertson Davies, David Lodge, funnier if you were brought up catholic i think, Douglas Adams and Bill Bryson. that last one made me laugh out loud on a tube once, so demented i looked that people moved away and the ones that did not looked at me funny. something about him trying to cross a road in Paris, still makes me chortle

sfxmum · 19/11/2006 19:37
pudding77 · 19/11/2006 20:00

Bill Bryson made me laugh out loud as well, it was his attempts at body-boarding in Oz!

I'm going through a bit of a crime & mystery phase at the minute, have read bookseller of kabul, currently reading a really interesting book an autobiography of a long-distance swimmer.

pudding77 · 19/11/2006 20:02

And I'm fine for the 9th as well (if I'm invited )

pudding77 · 19/11/2006 20:03

Sorry, last post from me this evening, just realised that 9th was probably not an open invite & how cheeky I was

Please ignore me, v sleep-deprived

sfxmum · 19/11/2006 20:12

pudding have a look at foxie's postbelow
sfx/mellow: I think we've deffo got the makings of a bookswap haven't we?

pudding77 · 19/11/2006 20:22

Cool, then I can do the 9th after all!

I'm now sat in bed with dh's laptop, the paper & a cup of tea - how pathetic??

sfxmum · 19/11/2006 20:31

i feel a bit spare today, usually i get dd to sleep except when i am out of course. today i half joked and said to her 'take the book to daddy he is getting your to sleep' she said 'OK bye bye'
she is now fast asleep perfectly happy my little girls is growing up

i like thrillers too pudding i find all procedural comforting. and not sad at all i am waiting for torchwood while reading the paper

pudding77 · 19/11/2006 20:37

My little boy's growing up as well - you know we'd planned to go to Cardiff yesterday? Well, we went to ILs to drop him off, dh went to the shop & I walked into a different room and ds started bawlng. It seems he'd picked this weekend to start the attachment phase! It is nice in a way that he wants us around so much but also meant we had to cancel our plans. We ended up staying at ILs and going to the cinema after he was asleep! It does amaze me how fast things change with children.

Which authors do you like? I started to like Patricia Cornwell but then she got v boring & irritating! I read Kathy Reichs at the minute, love Robert Crais, Harlan Coban & James Lee Burke. I do try to read different things but find I go through phases of reading a particular genre before moving on.

sfxmum · 19/11/2006 20:46

all of the above as well as Sara Peretsky, Karin Slaughter, Ian Rankin and the marvelous Umberto Eco
i am afraid that no matter how rubbish PC gets i have an attachment to Scarpetta that i just can't break
have you read Foucaults Pendulum? so so much better than that other rubbish (apparently since i have not read it ever)

about your little one, it passes but it is an important phase, bless them, hope you enjoyed the movies 007?

harktheheraldfoxessing · 19/11/2006 20:49

Hi - went down to just outside Bath today to visit my Mum. DS (aged 6) spent 4 hours discussing the merits of Dr Who cards with his cousin (aged 10) Small boys really are all the same species!!

Liked reading about other LO's "growing up". My fave phase so far is when they get to age 4 and really start understanding the logic of what you're saying, and discussing things, but are still to young to argue back

Puds - you're welcome to join us. Shall we do a book swap then - that's OK, 'cos we can circlate our fave reads round our little circle and know we'll get them back as well We can always scrawl our names inside, so we can keep track. TBH I'd want The Kite Runner back as its so brilliant, but would love other people to read it too.

How about 11am on the 2nd then instead of 9th, as mellows birthday is on 9th?? Its the day after the Christmas meet. What do you think?

pudding77 · 19/11/2006 20:55

I know it will pass, as soon as he started to cry we said we wouldn't go because he would've just got more and more distressed! He was better this morning but would still follow me to see where I was going!

Yes it was 007, and omg Daniel Craig is just so yummy !

Have read KS, quite like her books but haven't read the others. If there's a continuing character I like to read them from the beginning and the library doesn't always have them in order.

sfxmum · 19/11/2006 20:58

speaking of phases, my nephew went through a serious D&D stage much to dh's delight and my niece is obsessed with Mornington Crescenthow? what is going on she is only 15! it will be the Archers next

be ok on the 2nd i think must check with dh too

festivevillas · 19/11/2006 20:59

Evening, all. Nothing much to report at this end Weekend was fine and dandy but no exciting news and to be honest am feeling a bit bored and fed up!

sfxmum · 19/11/2006 21:01

do tell all festive whats up is it sunday night blues? hugs to you

festivevillas · 19/11/2006 21:06

dunno [shrugs] .. just don't seem to have much going on at the moment and need to shake myself out of the lethargy! all fine on the home front and work is ok .. a necessary evil .. but think I need something else. All the bookclub stuff sounds fab but not sure I have the brains to have a decent discussion about anything anymore!

pudding77 · 19/11/2006 21:20

From what I've heard most bookclubs are an excuse to have a drink & a gossip unless you join a library one or something similar!

I need to go and get some sleep now as I'm starting to nod off over MN. Hope you cheer up festive - do you work part or full time? If you're around during the week do you want to meet up?

pudding77 · 19/11/2006 21:21

btw, the invitation to meet up is open to anyone else who's around during the week!

deckthehalls · 19/11/2006 21:27

Right. That's it. A new name and a new lease of life! No more lethargy and moaning jumps around, flailing arms wildly in the air - it's going to be a good week! Sorry for previous whining. I would just like to be posting great news of exciting weekend events, perhaps a houseparty with friends in the country or a night out at a black-tie ball! But the stark reality is that I went to Richmond yesterday (ok had my hair done - nice), followed this up with Marble Hill playground with DD and today it was pretty much the same! I would DEFINITELY be up for a bookclub - can we review books whilst quaffing large glasses of red wine? (I will even don my spectacles in an attempt to appear knowledgable). Puds, I work Weds to Fri - am not around this week but thereafter am always up for meeting up! Last week we went to the Lollipop Club (first time) and I thought it was fab
