Any Manchester Mums out there?

I'm 35weeks preggers, first baby

I'm 36yrs and keep being told in antenatal that I am an 'old Mum' and getting fed up!

Anyone else out there in my boat?

Jain - I was 36 when I had DS last November and I didn't feel old and neighbour's friend had just had a baby at 41. It did pee me off a bit when they referred to me as an older mum - I think I prefer the term "mature".
I'm in Salford too btw

Jain · 04/09/2006 16:14

Personally, I don't feel 'that old' but since being pregnant, Hope Hosp continually ref to me as the older mum....... my partner holds my hand as I bite my lip each time...!
A friend in Durham had a baby 10 weeks ago, it was her first as well and she is 40, she said that nothing was ever mentioned about her age there - just shows how different areas treat you!

Hi Jain

Nice to hear from someone in Salford. I live in Swinton - whereabouts are you?

I was 33 when I had my little girl who is now 17 months old and emotionally I don't really think I would have been ready when I was in my 20s. Being referred to as an older mum is such a load of rubbish. OAPs are having babies now - though don't fancy that myself!

Will you be having your baby at Hope Hospital? I thought they were great when I had my DD.

Hi Andyj,
I live toward town, near Salford Cresent train station, but will be moving and don't like the area.
I will be at Hope, not my first choice, but they seem OK so far.

Jain - Hope is a good hospital to have baby in. They're really nice & helpful (but the food IS crap)

Jain · 05/09/2006 14:28

Yeah, the midwife already said the food was bad, so my partner has already been given ordered for fish and chips and KFC! (not v healthy!)

Tell him not to go to the chippy next to the hospital - that's bog awful as well. The Chinese is nice on that road though. I suppose if you live near the crescent he can call in McD's....

Jain · 05/09/2006 14:43

we live in the flats just by mac d's! but only ever go there if desperate!

Iklboo · 05/09/2006 14:44

Ah - no wonder you don't like the area!!!
You know, that McD's is the Manchester HQ and is supposed to be the best one?? Can't see it myself.

Jain · 05/09/2006 14:56

I know, the service is terrible and they always get orders wrong!

The chinese takeaway near to Texaco, by Sainsbury's is pretty good!

Yes, I send DH there when he's had a driving pupil that way. The one further up the road (Chungs) does really nice gravy if you like the thick, dark gravy.

AndyJ · 05/09/2006 21:13

Hi Jain

Don't worry about Hope everyone I know says good things about them.

I used to live in Whitebeam Court do you know it? I didn't like the area either although I did like my little flat. Are you hoping to move before or after the baby? Where do you think you will move to?

Hope bump is kicking nicely.

Jain · 06/09/2006 09:47

Hi Andyj,
I know Whitebeam, I was nearly given a place there! I hope to move to South Manchester, nearer to my partners work etc. I hope to move before Xmas, but it will be after the birth, too much going on at the mo!

Hi Jain,
Me and dh used to live on the main road inbetween Fallowfield and Withington. I've also lived in another part of Withington and towards Ladybarn. All were ok when I was there! Some of it (esp. towards Rusholme) is quite studenty.
best of luck with the baby!

Jain · 12/09/2006 10:34

Hi Paddingtonbear1,
Do you still live around the manchester area?
I don't mind student areas too much, I have lived in or around them in most cities, I enjoy the diverse cultures and the 24hr shops!

Hi. I live in Salford too, but the other end in Monton. I'm 36 and had my first baby 6 months ago. Hope Hospital was lovely. Everyone is so kind and helpful.
Does anyone know any mum and baby groups.I used to go to a lovely one at Winton library but I'm working those days now. I'd like to go to one in Monton/Swinton/Worsley on monday or tuesday.
Best wishes
