Hi Gracesmum

Thanks for responding to my message.

Hope you are well. Can't believe you answered my message at 2.35am!

I would love to hear more about how you are getting on.

I am 33 years old and trying to work part time and look after my daughter at the same time. There doesn't seem to be much to do in our area especially in the afternoons! Do you know of anything interesting - any groups etc?

Hope to hear from you again. I log in as often as I can.

hi again i work nights and use the pc at work when i am on my break. little hulton is a surestart area and there are always plenty of groups there, although some of these are suspended during school holidays as they are for the under 4's.
i work 3 nights a week and my dd is 2 and a bit.
am curious whether you are male/female given your username.

AndyJ · 16/08/2006 20:52

Hi Gracesmum

Don't know when you will get this message - it depends what nights you are working. What do you do?

I am female.

I know what you mean about groups being suspended during the summer holidays. I finally found a playgroup just up the road from me that meets on a Thursday afternoon but it is not on now until after the school holidays.

I work in the mornings so can only do things with my DD in the afternoons after 1.00. I tend to find that most things take place in the mornings which can be quite frustrating.

What things do you tend to do with your little one?

i am auxillary nurse. can be pain that most groups are only on in the morning, but suppose some mums have others to pick up from school at 3. in little hulton we have coffee afternoon on weds 1pm till 3. little picassos(painting group) on thursdays 1.15 till 2.30.
we have new childrens centre in little hulton which will hopefully be open to public after school hols where most of the groups will be held and they have a soft play area(similar) to wacky warehouse.
my activities with my dd usually depend on the weather. have you ever been to blackleach park in walkden, we like to go there and feed the ducks.

do you work mon-fri?

AndyJ · 17/08/2006 20:36

Yeah unfortunately I do work Mon-Fri a day off in the week but have been good to have a chance to do something with DD. I am quite shy about meeting people so find coffee afternoons etc a bit daunting do you find that people are friendly? I read an article in a magazine yesterday that said toddler groups can be a bit of a nightmare as all the mums know each other and tend to ignore new people - put me off a bit!

sometimes they can be a bit clicky but they soon warm up to new people. do you have same day off every week?
when my dd was quite a bit younger i used to take her to little hulton library, they have tots storytime, tues/thurs morning, story, songs and crafts a good way to meet new mums.

am off after tonight for the weekend but will catch up with you soon xx

AndyJ · 20/08/2006 16:42

Hi Grace

Hope you had a nice weekend. I work Mon-Fri as a secretary in a solicitor's office unfortunately. So I really can't get out to anything in the mornings during the week which is really restrictive. I think I will give the Thursday afternoon group a try though and if I find it really difficult I don't have to keep going! Only I will feel really guilty if DD loves it and I hate it!

Do you work at the hospital or in an elderly person's home? I used to work as a care assistant in a home for the elderly years ago before I became a secretary. It was really hard work and I used to be exhausted by the end of the day. I did enjoy some aspects of it though.

Did you do anything nice this weekend? We have hardly done anything we usually do because it hasn't stopped raining for 2 days!

hi andyj been on days for last 2 weeks so not had time to get on the pc. i work in a hospice caring for people with terminal illnesses, hard work but sometimes can be very rewarding to.

hope you are all well.

AndyJ · 04/09/2006 20:32

Hi Gracesmum

Nice to hear from you - I thought you had given up on me!

Your job sounds really rewarding but also quite depressing. It must be awful to grow close to people and then find that they have passed away. My work can also be quite depressing as a lot of the cases we deal with involve people who have committed suicide or attempted suicide

We are all well at the moment thanks. DD fighting sleep every night!

How are you and DD?

my dd been a wee bit poorly with a bad chest but is picking up now, she has been hospitalised twice in the past with bronchiolitis so this time of year is when her chest usually gets a bit grotty. job can be pretty stressful at times but once i leave the building i can leave work at work and i dont worry about it at home.

AndyJ · 08/09/2006 21:33

Sorry to hear about your DD is she any better now? The weather has gone warmer again so hopefully this will help her. My DD has been in hospital twice since she was born and I hated every minute of it.

shes lots better now thanks. my dd has been in hospital twice with bronchiolitis, last year she was really poorly and was on oxygen for 5 days. so much for breastfeeding reducing chance of respiratory problems, that didnt happen in my case. the doctors did say though that had she not been a breastfed baby her problems would have been worse. thankfully she is over 2 now so she shouldnt get it again this winter.
how are things with your little family. i am down your neck of the woods on friday night going to a 60th.
