Been here 7yrs now have 2 ds's 2yrs and 6months and am married to a pom so looks like I'm here for the long run! The closest I get to an aussie now is watching neighbours (I know its quite pathetic). Anyway if there are any others who fancy a catch up, I'm in west london?

Yeah good luck cori, hope everything goes ok, or as well as can be expected. Take care.

quokka · 29/09/2006 18:53

kaybee did you still want to come to Kew on Sun?

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 29/09/2006 19:09

I'm not too sure if I can make it on Sun quokka, as a friend might be staying tomorrow night & i'm not sure what time she'll leave
Maybe we could meet during the week, thurs maybe if you are free....?

kiwibella · 29/09/2006 22:04

quoka... psml at the cat flap story

cori... so sorry to hear about your grandmother. Have a safe and wonderful journey. Maybe a strange thing to suggest, but as you say: she is a link to your Mum.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. Dd and I are so blocked up with colds, we won't be up to much.

cori · 30/09/2006 17:35

Thanks guys, flying out 10.00 am tomorow> as you all know it is a difficult flight at the best of times, but all these security restrictions make it even more difficult to travel with a small baby. DS is mixed fed, ideally I would like to take the little cartons of made up formula, but they would all have to be opened and 'tasted' then of course impossible to carry on. So then we thought about taking the powder and two large bottles of evian. Dont know if they would let that through either, its all so complicated. wiill try to get the evian on though.

Kaybee7777 · 02/10/2006 12:53

so sorry i couldn't do Kew on Sunday, Quokka. Did you have a nice weekend? It absolutely pissed down here on Sunday, thunder, lightening, the works! Wasn't very nice!!

quokka · 02/10/2006 15:15

not to worry, we had a very chilled out day, went to the farmers market and bought a really expensive chook, cooked it, ate it then watched mindless telly

OP posts:
quokka · 02/10/2006 15:16

oh been meaning to ask how is the house going?

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 02/10/2006 18:13

Settlement day was Friday so it's all ours
And we have found tenants already which is cool, they move in on Sat, so it's all come together nicely.

quokka · 02/10/2006 19:14

wow thats super quick and tenants already! How does it feel to be homeowner?

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 03/10/2006 08:37

It's cool. Feel a bit sorry for my Dad though as he's the one who has to run around sorting stuff out at that end It probably won't sink in until we actually go back and suddenly there's our house to move into !!

quokka · 03/10/2006 08:54

sounds like the best way to do it iykwim

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 03/10/2006 10:33

Yeah well he was mega keen on us getting a house so he must have known that he'd end up doing all the organising!

You still keen to meet up sometime?

quokka · 03/10/2006 12:05

I will be at Kew on Thursday with some other mums, if you want to join us, or we could meet somewhere else? Do you still want the car seat and snowsuit?

Have you thought of your birthing plan yet?

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 03/10/2006 12:19

Thurs is okay for me, if you don't mind me crashing your meetup??
I'd love to still borrow the carseat and snowsuit, if that's still ok. Do you think I'd manage to get that home on the tube, i could be ok if that's all I had to carry....

Kaybee7777 · 03/10/2006 12:19

And no, haven't really thought of my birth plan. It's too scary

quokka · 03/10/2006 13:21

I can bring them thats fine, they aren't very heavy. Think I will be there fom 10 so just do the same as last time and give me a call when you get into the station.

I think the more you are prepared for the birth the better! Are you doing your pelvic floor muscle exercises? Also there is a exercise you do to soften your muscles (down there). You do have to use you fingers, but I have given birth to 2 and I haven't had a tear or stitches yet! Have you got some Arnica tablets for after the birth? If not I'm sure I have some left over. Sorry starting to sound svery bossy and mumsy

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 03/10/2006 14:25

That sounds cool. Hopefully I should be able to get there around 11ish.
I have been doing some pelvic floor excercises as i have been doing pregnancy pilates at home with a dvd!
I don't have any arnica tablets, are they really helpful?
I think i have heard of the excercise to soften the muscles down there, is that where you use some kind of oil to 'massage' the area . Anything that can help prevent tearing etc has got to be worth a go.
Don't worry about sounding mumsy, it's nice to have someone here to get advice from

quokka · 03/10/2006 17:30

I would deffo start massaging "that" (not sure what you call it! ) area everyday from now on after your shower, I used almond oil but I'm sure you could even use olive oil. You should start to notice that it feels a bit more relaxed after a couple of weeks.

Arnica is amazing you should really use it! Another good thing to do is visulise the labout- bloody hell I sound like a hippy . Honestly just imagine the contractions (yes the pain), and see yourself working with them to deliver the baby. Remember women have been doing this for a very long time and its quite a natural thing to do.

If you do decide to have an epidural then remember that you will have to rely on the midwife to tell you when to push. Most women who have epidurals end up tearing because they are pushing at the wrong time.

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 03/10/2006 18:06

I read somewhere to start massaging the area at 34 weeks (no idea why) so was gonna start next week

quokka · 03/10/2006 19:15

oh I have a huge box of breast pads you can have. They have been sitting in the nursery for ages but I never needed them, so will bring them along as well .

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 04/10/2006 13:10

Cool, thanks :0
So many things to look foward to, breast pads, maternity pads, sitting on frozen peas - oh what a joy it will all be!

Kaybee7777 · 04/10/2006 17:00

Hey quokka, is there a contingency for if it's crap weather ?

quokka · 04/10/2006 18:58

there are places you can go inside at Kew, if it's too horrible to face then we can just hang out at my house?
