Hi

Are there any local meets around the Stow area? I have just moved up from Surrey, leaving family and friends behind.

Struggling to find things to do for my 2 year old. Also have a 5 month old (both boys). Any suggestions for local playgroups etc???? Days out???

Not been on MumsNet before, but the S-i-L says its the best!

Thanks for your help

Kelly, I'm nowhere near you but we spent a week near you earlier this year. Lovely part of the world.

Can recommend Cotswold Wildlife Park for a day out, I believe they have a website if you want to check it out. Will try to remember what else we did that might be suitable!

KellyMacplus2 · 20/06/2006 16:46

Thanks for that.

Will go and look it up now!!

I'm sure there are playgroups but might need to drive to them - in circencester/chipping norton/cheltenham.
have you also been to www.childcarelink.gov.uk
and click on area then pre-school groups or playgroups to bring up list? or get same from yr nearest library.
also netmums?

Anyone else out there from round here?

I live in Evesham - we often go to Cotswold Wild life park

evesham isnt so far away for a visit - 40mins?

we have a lovely water park which is fab for young kids

would be happy to meet you one lunchtime for picnic?

mistressmiggins · 21/06/2006 21:58

infact my SIL has legs waxed etc in Stow so I might only be 30 mins from us....

chocolatequeen · 21/06/2006 22:01

Hi, I´m from Burford originally, but haven´t lived there since having kids, so not much use! Witney has a great indoor play place, in Waitrose car park, that might be a good starting point.

Big, fab shopping centre at Swindon with massive train museum thing next to it, lovely for little boys. There´s nice big parks in Witney too.

Somewhere near Stow is an old steam railway, which has engines running most of the time, will ask parents what its called and let you know.

Great pick your own place called Millets, think it´s near Abingdon somewhere, has lovely cafe, lots of animals to look at and big farm shop. I´m sure it has a website, but will find you more details if you get stuck.

Cotswold Farm Park somewhere in Gloucestershire.

The Fox at Barringtons, lovely pub right by a river (no fence though) which is child friendly (slight contradiction....!), ie they let kids in, have a footy table and big open area for running around, don´t mind you throwing stones in the water, do kids meals etc etc.

There are definitely baby groups though in and around the area - have you tried the library, they usually have some sort of things going on....

Would love to meet up, but we live in Portugal now, so could be a bit tricky..... Back at Xmas time though, so we could meet up then!

HTH, will keep posting on here with ideas. Lucky you though, its a lovely area once you find your feet!

x

chocolatequeen · 21/06/2006 22:04

Sorry, didn´t add that you´ll need to google all of these!!! Fox at Barringtons - there are 2 village Great and Little Barrington, it´s between the two (one of the most beautiful villages in England), go off the A40 just after Burford on the way to Cheltenham.

The Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford is lovely, really great for small boys. Loads of interesting things all packed away in drawers, like witches fingers and voodoo heads and pickled animals and things. you get given a torch when you go in and just have a good ferret round. Fabulous.

Big swimming centre in Swindon, called Oasis. Has baby pool, slides, wave machine etc.

Someone stop me.....!!!!

KellyMacplus2 · 21/06/2006 22:11

Thanks for the ideas ChocolateQueen! Will give them a try.

Living in Portugal eh, you lucky thing!

Water Park sounds good MistressMiggins, if this weather holds out for the summer, it would be good to meet. 30-40 minute drive is no problem.

How many kids do you have? How old? Oh questions, questions!

Model village is in Bourton on the Water! Not far from Burford though.

Pub on Burford High Street, Cotswold Arms (near the bottom) has big train set in the back garden - will be the most peaceful drink you will ever have had - DS totally transfixed for a good hour....

MissChief · 24/06/2006 07:39

CQ - my ds tranfixed too! Great combination. He also loves the chocolate butterflies/cars you can get in the deli over the road.

lexiemum · 24/06/2006 21:08

i'm not far from stow and visit family in evesham too. love cotswold wildlife too - so would be up for a meet - have dds (3 and 9mths)

looking for something for tomorrow -might hit the pub in burford - didn't know about the train track. will phone them and if not showing the game I guess it will be pretty quiet.

KellyMacplus2 · 27/06/2006 21:49

Hi Lexiemum

Did you try the pub in Burford? Was thinking of going there this weekend..... my ds loves trains so am sure it would be a winner.

Its all gone quiet on the meet up in Evesham, but I will be up for a meet somewhere if you fancy it.

Keep in touch

Bibury is lovely for feeding the ducks on the river (it's a bit less touristy than Bourton-on the Water). There is also a trout farm there where you can watch the fish jumping!

MissChief · 11/07/2006 11:08

oh and there's the cotswold farm park somewhere too - rare breeds/tractor rides etc. Boy-heaven!
Where's evesham btw, is it in Worcs?
