Just joined Mumsnet as discovered it in my desperate search to retain my sanity. Have DS 6months who I adore but live too far from family and I don't know anyone in area plus DP works alot so slowly going mad with boredom/lack of stimulation from like-minded adults who enjoy a giggle!
However, is it just me or does anyone else feel there are alot of cool gangs of Mnetters frequenting the board? I feel like the geeky kid at school who just wants a friend or two!

Took DS to a farm park on Friday (just me and the bub) and cashier looked at me in pity. Or was she thinking I was some freak with a fetish for livestock?!!! Hmmmm?

I live in the north/west yorkshire and east lancashire area if anyone wants to be my friend SadGrin

Hi mumbum. There are all sorts of people on mumsnet. Some of them have 'known' each other for about 5 years or more so it's hardly surprising that they're more familiar with each other. It would be the same in any group.

Don't let it put you off though. Like I say there are so many people on here and more joining all the time.

I love mn because it's great to be able to converse with people about what you want to talk about when you want to talk about it. Also you can drop the conversation to go and make dinner with no strings attached. Brilliant! If only life were more like Mumsnet. Wink

I know the feelingWink.

to be fair tho, as your name gets more recognised you get more integrated:). Like being the new girl and settling in anywhere I guess.

I joined a year and a bit ago, lost pootah and resicovered real life again (as it can be so very addiciveGrin), and then came back only about a month or so a go after going on a meet-up with bournemouth/poole mums with flame boo (who IS totally addictedWinkGrin).

I still feel like a new girl, and it does feel hard at times to just jump in on conversations with those who are more known but I guess that is all we have to do....jump in with both feet:).

I will warn you tho....there is a huge range of personalities here and so huge range of opinions, good and bad. can make for some very contravertial (sp?Blush) threads. But hey, thats life and at least with the pootah you can just switch off and walk away. It is funny how involving it feels tho, and how upsetting it can be at times if you are the one feeling in the wrong:(.

Good luck....you'll soon find your 'niche', so to speak:):)

welcome by the wayWink

Perhaps we should assign buddies to look after new people in the MN playground.

mumbum · 18/06/2006 11:23

I think a guy's life is a bit like Mumsnet. Don't you just love/hate the way they can call each other up out the blue to go for a drink, or join any social circle with no questions asked other than "Who do you support"! It seems only us women and our friends with the pink pound love a good bitch!

psychomum5 · 18/06/2006 11:23

That sounds like a nice plan spidamama:)

littlerach · 18/06/2006 11:24

Psychomum, I wondered if you wre the same person, as I remebered you from ages ago.

Mumbum, keep posting and you'll find yoyr feet!

I think there are soem areas that people post in more frequently, so it can come across as thought they all know each othwer. And of cousre, some people do know each other through meet upis.

It gets busier during the week, especially during the day.

Welcome, BTW!

southeastastra · 18/06/2006 11:26

i need a buddy to stop me posting silly comments when i've had a few!!

mumbum · 18/06/2006 11:27

Thanks for your welcomes ladies. I can see me getting totally hooked and DP will come home to find DS son glued to Cbeebies and a Pot Noodle for his dinner!

mumbum · 18/06/2006 11:28

southeastastra · 18/06/2006 11:29

mumbum is a great name!

psychomum5 · 18/06/2006 11:29

Grin....I'm remembered.....feel all loved again:):):)

I did wonder. I didn't announce my 'come-back' as such as I hadn't felt like I had been here long enough to be remembered, and of course would then have very invisible had no-one responded (you know what I mean??Wink)

I do find myself becoming addicted again thoShock.....but this is my life line and sanity saver while recovering from my car accident!!!

tis nice to be remembered tho:)

ooh, now feeling all vain tooBlush.

mumbum · 18/06/2006 11:33

Car accident? You OK now Psychomum?

Thanks SEA. It was a joke with DP whilst I was pregnant that I'd get a mumbum - by definition, kind of long and flat that liked to eat jeans! And guess what, I did!

DS is awake so must head just now. I know I don't have to excuse myself from the classroom but I'm still new so being polite! :)

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2006 11:43

You will stop being so polite soon mumbum Wink

I am the geeky sort too but there is plenty of room for us geeks on here - room for everyone. You'll find over time you recognise and click with some posters more than others.

I think there are quite often Northern meet ups - keep a look out for the next one.

psychomum5 · 18/06/2006 11:44

Ahhh.....good days bad days. Was going down 'mainish' a road with many 'cross roads', I had right of way, but someone decided to go straight across to the opposite road with out looking. (how he missed my great big white poeple carrier is still confusingAngry!!)

He pushed me across writing my car off:(, and injuring me and DD2 (10). DD is thankfully pretty much ok other than shock altho her hips are 'out' needing chiropractic treatment.

I am worse tho.....torn ligaments from neck down to ankles, and the seat belt cluck thingy has damaged my left leg and hip inside (muscle nerve and ligaments) meaning that walking is an issue and I want to chop my leg off half the time:(

I am fixable tho, will just take time, and I am not broken which is a huge relief as it could have been so much worse.

Got a cleaner thoGrinso there is a kind of silver lining......frustration is huge tho, and am on so many tabs I float too (diazapam, pethidine and volterolShock...ooh, and now oramorph as the pain can be so bad at times!)

And with 5 kiddies the guilt is also huge as I am so very busy normally and am having to rely on so many for so much. DH is fab tho....:):)

mumbum · 18/06/2006 11:47

God that's awful Pyscho! Bloody men drivers!

Don't feel bad about getting help from others - you would be there for them!

DumbledoresGirl · 18/06/2006 11:47

psychomum, I didn't welcome you back as I did not realise you had been away! Knowing now that you have, I think I had better explain I am Lonelymum as was. I certainly hadn't forgotten you and your 5 children!

DumbledoresGirl · 18/06/2006 11:48

Oh and God how rude of me! Welcome to Mumsnet mumbum. Not all of us are bosom pals with everyone else. Some of us are still standing shyly on the sidelines, even though they have a big mouth and appear to be one of the bunch!

mumbum · 18/06/2006 11:56

Thanks DDG. Aw people are so nice here. :)

OP posts:
psychomum5 · 18/06/2006 11:57

feeling all humble nowBlush.

didn't realise I had been that well 'spotted'Wink.I remember you as lonelymum....dumbledoresgirl tis a nice name change:)....Am now wondering how many others have name changed since I was last here.

thankyou for the symapthy mumbum (love that nameGrin). you are right...I would be/have been for some....there for all my friends in their times of need. I just feel frustrated at myself tho cos I want to be manded quicker than I am being(grrr)

the other guys insurance poeple are being absolutely wonderful about it all tho. I am getting private bupa healthcare now (physio/acupuncture) to get me there. As they should be I guess tho as it was his fault.!
