cramps after smear? is it normal?

had a smear yesterday,have period like cramps today is that normal?

Felt like this after my one and only smear 16 years ago. They actually lasted a couple of weeks. When I asked the doc about it he told me that it depends on the person doing it as to how painless it is. You may have just had a newbie. Never allowed it to happen to me again since - so can't add anything further.
