Hello again,

Okay details - I am 33 (well will be soon) with 1 DD who is 3 1/2 and expecting #2 in June. Still work FT but have recently changed jobs as well as towns and am hoping to impress my new bosses even more than I already have by getting pregnant within 6 months of joining them, by asking for a 3 day week after mat leave. Not that I am planning ahead at all. Also doing an MBA part-time at the mo (in fact should be completing an assignment due in soon as we 'speak) so all in all fairly busy.

Cheers

Dmum · 06/01/2004 20:58

Hi Gomez, you sound like a very busy lady!! Wish I was as motivated as you.

Don't wish for that Dmum or you will get he-haw done! What do you think explains my recent introduction to MNet? But an unexplained desire to surf with no purpose under the guise of doing work. DH will catch on soon - it is like skiving at work everyime he comes in the study I am 'looking' at the same page - i.e a quick switch so he doesn't know I am on MNet!

Also can you tell me if the ASDA in Cumbernauld has George maternity wear? And if so where the shop is? Ta!

sammac · 06/01/2004 21:55

Don't know about Asda Cumbernauld, but the one at Robroyston does- just off the motorway. Plus loads reduced just now.

Dmum · 07/01/2004 20:13

Gomez, sorry I didn't reply sooner. I had gone offline last night to watch "Child of our Time" - very interesting stuff!! Asda in Cumbernauld does have quite good maternity wear. Don't know which way you'd be coming into Cnauld, but the store is just before the Town Centre and next to the Tryst Sports Centre. Don't know if that helps any.

Hi Dmum, sorry to be so slow, kept trying to answer another posting but got cut off 3 times. I wish we could get broadband or some better system that doesn't boot you when another call comes in.
I don't know how much a line soley for here costs but I think it's going to have to happen/
Had a good day but TGIF!!

Dmum · 09/01/2004 21:20

Were you at work today? I think you said your school is in Glasgow. Which area? What primary do you teach?

I'm in the eastend, in P4. I love my class. We spent most of the day making castles - fulfilling my technology time!

sammac · 09/01/2004 21:24

Of course, the place was a tip at home time, but the kids loved it!

Dmum · 09/01/2004 21:27

I was in P4 (1st year) when I finished up for my mat leave in April. I really enjoyed it. I should be going back to P4 in April when I return. I had a brilliant class. I've done a lot of infant teaching, especially P2, so this was a welcome change.

OP posts:
sammac · 09/01/2004 21:31

I've done most of my time in P4 (sounds like jail!) Was supposed to go down to p1 couple years ago, but went off on mat leave and boss doesn't like disrupting wee ones.
Was in P3 last year, and have taken class on to 4 this year mainly 'cos of autistic boy to ease transistion probs.
Would take them forever and vice versa!! They are just lovely.

Dmum · 09/01/2004 21:33

How do you feel having the child with autism in your class? What kind of "challenges" does it create? (I don't have much of a clue about autism, I'm afraid!)

OP posts:
sammac · 09/01/2004 21:38

I was very worried at first- because I knew nothing. I have a close friend with a dd so only knew in that way.
I was very wary at first, but met with mum every week after school last year, so she helped me out big time. Of course, I learned by my mistakes- like not shouting at him 'cos he just curls up- it would break your heart. He's a lovely boy with a really supportive family which obviously helps.
He couldn't work with the others in making castles today, but it wasn't a big deal to let him do it himself. And he loved it. He's not good at working with others so we just find ways round it.

sammac · 09/01/2004 21:39

Whereabouts is your school?

Dmum · 09/01/2004 21:44

My only experience of autism was when I was teaching P1 a few years ago. There was a wee boy with autism in the other P1 class and he was extremely violent. My colleague was so stressed and every time he threw a wobbly the whole class were removed from the location. He hit and kicked members of staff and other children. I know the child had real problems, but he just wasn't coping in mainstream. He eventually got a place in a unit half way through P2. I must sound as if I'm not very unsympathetic to these kids, but I watched how destructive the whole thing was (for the wee boy as well as everyone else involved.) Unfortunately, I'm in a school where the management have a "contain the problem" attitude.

I teach in Cumbernauld.

Sorry, 2nd last post should have said "....as if I'm not very sympathetic..."
