Hi tjgx, I've lived in Lower Clapton (the bottom of 'murder mile' as it is known) for over five years now and although it wasn't a great start - there was a shooting the day we moved in and the burnt out cars used to bother me slightly - it has improved a great deal and will continue to improve I think (haven't seen a burnt out car in years!). I've heard a lot of stories of goings-on but I have to say I've never seen anything (unless I walk round with my eyes shut). OK, so I admit I'd much rather live in Stoke Newington but hey, we go where we can afford and if I, born and raised in safe and beautiful Devon, can live there - it can't be all that bad! Wink

I was born and raised in Hackney on the stamford hill estates.... a community of interlinked estates...upper clapton is right near stamford hil.. lived there for 22 years... Smile

I have to say that i have never had any trouble what-so-ever and yet there was trouble (esp back when i was young).... i think that the type of trouble that goes on there is the type that you need to be involved in for it to affect you... dont get me wrong hackney has it's fair share of trouble, but its hackneys history that makes ppl think it's worse then it is....

I live in enfield now and am trying my hardest to move back to hackney....

Plus enfield doesnt have as bad a rep but yet my dds uncle (15yrs) has been mugged at knife point twice in my area since ive been here (only been here 1yr and a half)....

oh a word of advice....

avoid getting a house in, hackney wick, dalston, tower hamlets.... they just arent the nicest places to live...

maybe if i finally get a place and you agree to hackney, we can have a meet up and i can show you my 'hometown' Smile

Hi tjgx, I also live in Lower Clapton. It's fine. I've lived in various places in Hackney since 1986 and I've never had any trouble. My advice to you, though, would be to visit the area and have a look round both during daylight and at night, and just see if you feel comfortable walking around. There are odd little pockets which are very rough, used to be a very dodgy little patch around the corner from me in Stokey where I used to live.

HTH.
