Dp is likely to accept a job on Friday which means we will be looking at moving to this area in the very near future. Smile

At first we will be looking at renting so wondered if anyone could recommend any nice areas...looking to be villagey / small town not city centres etc.

Also if anybody could let me know the names of the local papers, i would be most grateful! Wink

not sure about Derby. That's a big area to be looking at. Where will dh be working? You want to think about travelling time to and from work. There are some spots you would want to avoid e.g having to go up and down the M1 daily

Shiraz · 14/03/2006 11:26

He'll have to sue the M1 daily as part of his job anyway! ...just like usin the M62, A1 and parts of the M1 in his previous job! lol. (he's an area manager covering East Midlands....based in Notts, covering Leicester, South lincs, and Derbyshire too)

But thanks for your info hun!

Shiraz - there are quite a few local papers too covering the smaller areas - e.g Dispatch covers Hucknall/Papplewick area - just off J27. I would get the Evening Post on a Thursday as it includes the Nottingham property guide. Also have a look on rightmove.co.uk as most of the local agents advertise on here. Am happy to give advice on any areas you find of interest (and hope no mumsnetters live in any I critisise Blush)

Derbyshire Times

And also worth checking out the Sheffield Star ad Yorkshire Post which do have some Derbyshire info in sometimes.

Orinoco · 14/03/2006 21:52

Derby Evening Telegraph is the equivalent of the Nottingham Evening Post!

IME, Nottingham does tend to be a little more expensive than Derbyshire (as a Nottingham lass now living in Derbyshire!)

Bear in mind that if he has to go into Nottingham every day, the traffic is abysmal, it might be worth considering living near the tram?

Shiraz · 15/03/2006 09:57

He is an area Manager so has a company car as he travels to different places day in day out! He does know the M1 and traffic quite well...it's just looking our for the right papers etc!

Thank you all so much for your help! [SMILE]

Are you pregnant - or do you know anyone who is? We're urgently looking for pregnant women to spend about half an hour in Boots in Nottingham on Feb 22nd (and talk to someone from Kimberly Clark at the same time) in exchange for £50 worth of vouchers.

We need two first time mums-to-be, two second (or more) time mums-to- be, and a couple shopping for their first child - all in their third trimester. Ideally we need to confirm names in the next day or so.

So if you think you might be interested, or know someone who would, or have any bright ideas on where we can access the pregnant folks of Nottingham, please email [email protected] as soon as possible.

Huge thanks

my parents live in Keyworth in Nottingham, it's a lovely village, and there are several nice villages around there.

Bekks · 12/02/2007 20:37

There's a weekly paper in Loughborough - I think the Echo - a couple of nice villages around there - Barrow-on-Soar and Quorn - and fairly handy for M1 - both have village websites I believe.
