Glasgow Botanic Gardens - picnic meet-up

I was wondering if anyone would fancy meeting up in the Botanic Gardens for a picnic, some time in the summer (when we might, just possibly, hope for reasonable weather). It could be very laid-back - we could sit round and gossip, whilst the children ran round and played.

We'd have to decide on a second, indoor venue in case of rain - does anyone have any suggestions for somewhere near the botanic gardens that wouldn't be fazed by a bunch of mums and children turning up unannounced?

So - if anyone is interested, perhaps you could sign up below, and then we could look at finding a date - I was thinking a weekday rather than a weekend.

I'd like to.
I can't drive that far atm, but hope to be able to soon (am in Helensburgh).
I don't work so can do any day but need to be home for school pick up during the week, and would have DD (10) with me at weekends.
She's well behaved in public, and loves younger children if that helps!

We could time it round school runs, or we could do it in the holidays - whichever suited people best, Netto.

I can fit in with either really, my friend would have DD from school if I was not here. I'd like to come to a meet up, I never have before, though I have met a coupler of MNetters.
I bake good cakes though if that helps, and will bring several one Grin

Found it! Count me in if I'm not on holiday or working. I'll be alone - my two teens would rather have their teeth pulled than meet a bunch of "randomers"!

NettoSuperstar, I met SDTG for coffee in town last week - we had a lovely time. She's the first real-life MNer that I've met.

skrumle · 12/05/2012 16:27

i might be able to make it but we're away for nearly 3 weeks as soon as the schools finish, and i'm not sure what i'll have on over the summer in terms of work... can i be a maybe?

prettybird · 14/05/2012 08:51

Hadn't seen this. I'm up for it - not bothered about when, although I do know I'll be away the last weekend of July (going down to London to stay with a MNer to watch the cycling road race with ds) and (hopefully) the first week of July.

STDG - I've been "talking" to Glaikitfizzog about organising a crafting meet-up on the near future as we're both making squares for the latest MN blankets or I will be when I trek into John Lewis to get some wool

Oh I would like to come. I will have at least four children with me. I am away at the beginning of the school holidays but apart from that I shall be there.

I have not been to the Botanic Gardens in years. Where would be the nearest place to park? The last time I was there you could still park in Great Western Road, but I don't imagine you can park there now.

weegiemum · 10/07/2012 19:04

Did this ever, do we want to do it in the holidays? I'm away right now but back next week.
I'm a wee bit restricted as I'm disabled and can't walk too far or sit on the ground (can't get down, them cantget up!) but am happy to sit on a bench and observe, in manner of the Queen!

Agree SDTG is wonderful, she gave me a lift home once!

Following on from the thread in Arts & Crafts re Blanketeering Meet-ups (where those who are involved in knitting or crocheting squares for ExpatinScotkand and others are arranging to meet-up to help each other) it looks like there will be a meeting next Tuesday it Wednesday at the Hidden Gardens.

Can't link, as I am on iPod Touch in Greece at the moment, but will look back here to see if there is any interest.

prettybird · 23/07/2012 11:52

Looks like we will be meeting on 24th (time still to be confirmed) if anyone wants to join us.

prettybird · 23/07/2012 23:13

Glaikit, STDG and I will be meeting at 2pm on Wednesday 25th July at the Tramway/Hidden Gardens, as per the discussion on Meet-ups for the Blanketeers in the Arts & Crafts topic, if anyone else would like to join us. Smile

Link to thread where we're making arrangements

I am so sorry that I didn't come back to this thread - I was hoping that the weather would improve, so the picnic meet up would become possible, but it never did. I should have come back and said so, and I am so sorry that I didn't.

Weegiemum - thank you for such a kind compliment.
