Any takers today?

OP posts:
earthtomummy · 11/01/2006 23:37

Sorry - am in Nottinghamshire, but would love to find out a bit more about Christchurch (already talked to Ghosty re. Auckland) and what it's like living there. Planning to emigrate next yr. and looking for advice as to where to head.
Good luck arranging the meet-up!

yawningmonster · 12/01/2006 21:56

Sorry been off line for a while, definately interested in a meet up, great idea Bobbybob.

poppetmummy · 18/01/2006 22:46

hey guys
couldn't help noticing your thread and was just wondering if you could answer me a question.
what is it really like to live in NZ? silly question i know, and you must get sick of being asked it, sorry. my in-laws live in wellington, they emmigrated almost ten years ago, we don't get on with them that well, but NZ has always had such a pull for us we are so divided on whether to take the plunge - obviously the in-laws are a bit one sided because it had always been there plan that they would manage to drag everyone out there (strange and very long story). have to say i don't know anyone who has been to or lived in NZ other than them. are you guys kiwi's or british? such massive decision to make i don't even know where to start....
i hope you manage to sort your meet and have a great time
xx

yawningmonster · 20/01/2006 21:51

Hi Poppetmum, Im a kiwi born and bred and never been further than Australia so not great at giving a comparitive view. However that said, I love NZ and wouldnt dream of living anywhere else. I have live all over the North Island and mostly in Christchurch in the South Island, beautiful country. We live semi rurally and have a 25min commute to the city, it is perfect as far as we are concerned.

bobbybobbobbingalong · 22/01/2006 20:40

Okay we have a date, time and venue:

1st February

Wet venue; Museum Entrance
Dry Venue; Children's playground Botanical Gardens.

10am

georginars · 22/01/2006 20:51

ah bobbybob, we are going to be in Christchurch from Feb 11th doing a recce to make a firm decision on whether we're definitely going to move there. So we'll miss you on the 1st, otherwise would have come to meet you!
thanks for your help on the other thread about NZ.
How are you earthtomommy - any further along in your plans?

bobbybobbobbingalong · 23/01/2006 00:56

We could have another one - how long are you in ChCh. Would you like a tour guide?

OP posts:
georginars · 23/01/2006 13:22

We're in ChCh until March 2nd, staying with my parents so no need for a tour guide - however, would love to meet some people and ask a few questions and generally be sociable! I know you're a musicy person too, so could quiz you on that
My father is mad keen on us moving there so is filling us with propaganda - no one I know out there has young children so advice on all that kind of stuff is what I need.

bobbybobbobbingalong · 23/01/2006 17:45

How old is you child/children? I could give you a different sort of tour - showing you a pre school or a playcentre, a childrens music class, the plunket rooms, even the maternity hospital! etc.

Christchurch is a lot about who you know, and even though PIL know loads of people they have not got me one job, one pupil, one contact ever. I'm all for making my own way in the world - but here their lack of help seems almost mean.

So if I do know anyone I can introduce you to, please let me know.

OP posts:
georginars · 24/01/2006 10:21

bobbybob, we have one DD who will be just 14 months when we arrive for our trip. I would love to see a pre-school, music class & Plunket rooms, as that's kind of where we are at the moment. Also I have been thinking about 'teaching' baby/toddler music classes myself, seem to remember you already do that? And also would like to ask questions about maternity care as one of our main motivations for moving to ChCh is so that we can have another baby - nowhere to put one here!
It's really kind of you to offer. More than anything I just want to find out what it would be like for us there with young kids. My parents live on Cranmer Square so I will be based very centrally and also have no concrete plans so any date that suits you is fine by me. Would love to meet the others too!
You PIL do sound mean by the way!

bobbybobbobbingalong · 24/01/2006 18:50

cranmer square - excellent location!

I reckon the best thing is you contact me and give me your phone number in NZ by CAT. I will send you the times we go to the places you want to see and pick you up. Ds will be due his 3 year check by the PLunket nurse so you can come along and see the rooms while we go in and then we can go to his preschool. I'll take you to Bob's music class and if there is a Canterbury Musical Parenting meeting on you can come as my guest and meet all the other baby music teachers.

georginars · 24/01/2006 21:07

bobbybob you are amazing! - that would be great

I will cat you with the phone number and look forward to hearing from you on times. Thanks!
Can't wait to get going now

bobbybobbobbingalong · 24/01/2006 22:19

tis nothing.

OP posts:
bobbybobbobbingalong · 26/01/2006 07:56
