Is there any scenario where cake is not required?

spiggy · 29/07/2011 12:54

not come across one in 31 years...Grin

Indith · 29/07/2011 17:41

Well done Spiggy!

Art is Mondays and Wednesdays. I am at the breastfeeding group on the 12th and the 26th. That is only until 11 something though so we could do a picnic in the park.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 29/07/2011 20:40

Would it be easier for you to do it on the 18th? I can do it then?

StealthPolarBear · 29/07/2011 21:16

Well done spiggy :o :o

I didn't get mine :( a bit (because I should have had that job, but I had kind of come to the conclusion it was a bit far to travel. However, nrxt interview is in Middlesbrough, and I really want this job, but it's even further. Ultimately I just want to hand my notice in right now :( Had enough

KaraStarbuckThrace · 30/07/2011 20:01

Sad for you SPB. Fx for the interview in Middlesbrough!

spiggy · 31/07/2011 22:27

Will keep my fingers crossed for Middlesbrough. When is it?

StealthPolarBear · 31/07/2011 23:10

thanks both, It's on the 1st of September so ages yet. Again, not sure I want it - another job has come up in Durham, I want the Mbro job more but the quality of life that comes from working 20 mins away

Anyway, enough of my job whines!

Ds, having had a dry nappy 3 mornings running, wanted to go to bed without a nappy last night. Went to bed around 7.30 and by 9.45 when checked on he looked like someone had tipped a bucket of warm water over him. Absolutely everything was soaked including duvet and pillow. Urgh. Today I have had great fun washing his duvet in the bath and of course with all the random rain I do not have everything dry. Nappy tonight! He also had growing pains and then fell out of bed and hit his head on the corner of the chest of drawers resulting ina large egg and my holding an ice pack to his head at 3am Hmm.

StealthPolarBear · 02/08/2011 21:37

Oh no Indith, what a night :( Hope his bump has gone today.
Did you have a waterproof sheet on with a sheet over? Because that's exactly what I found with DS - it was everywhere in his pillow, all up and down the bed etc. I assume the thin sheet on top can't absorb all the wee :o and that's when I started putting a pampers bed mat on too.
DS has been trying tonight - partly circumstane, left work at 7 and went to pick him up from mum and dad's, so only saw him for about an hour and yet still must have shouted 3 times :(
He is now wide awake in bed and keeps shouting down Angry

Oh dear, Indith! Poor you and poor W!
This bloody weather, nightmare getting anything dry!

Indith · 02/08/2011 21:47

It is one of those ones with terry towling on top SPB. I shall get some bed mats next time I'm out (do they sell them in EW do you know?) and try those! Hope your ds settles for you soon, must make it very hard on both of you when you can't pick him up until late. Off to lift the dcs and hopefull get some sleep!

StealthPolarBear · 02/08/2011 21:51

I don;t know - we have quite a few spare though if you want me to stick one through your letterbox?
Would have thought terry towelling would ahve coped - must have been a mega wee!

OP posts:
spiggy · 02/08/2011 22:38

Poor W and poor you for having to deal with all the wee!

SPB- I think it has been the day for trying children- I swear mine were conspiring against me today, I've lost track of how many times I put DD back to bed. The last time I found her hiding in my room unwrapping all my breast pads, peeling the sticky labels off the back and sticking them to the wardrobe. Hope your DS has fallen asleep now.

Can anyone tell me how a small baby can take up quite so much bed? He's not just starfishing but horizontal starfishing to take up even more room. Every time I move him he wriggles back. He nearly pushed me out of bed last night!

StealthPolarBear · 02/08/2011 23:29

lol at the breastpads :o
I hate to say it spiggy and I am sure you are well aware, the starfish children only get bigger! DD's favourite position to sleep is horizontal so I usually end up huddling round her - luckily is she is managing to sprawl all the way across our king sized bed (and she;s not tall Confused) then I can carefully move her.

LeggyBlondeNE · 03/08/2011 09:32

Ah! Starfish baby!

I've got one of those and it's partly why I'm so glad she now sleeps deeply enough to be moved back to her cot after the 4am feed!

For those who are intested, there was a meeting yesterday with the head of midwifery about the maternity situation. I've just done a not-so-brief sumamry for the FB group but I shall post it here too.

Just though I'd do a bit of a summary of yesterday. I think the meeting was very positive, since I missed the MSLC I don't know how much detail they went into there but they gave a lot of detail as to how they had got into the situation (basically a whole load of complications with people on long term sick ending up being off longer, people of short term sick ending up long term and so on) and how the decision was made to close MLU.

The MWs went to the board and said there were problems, the board were happy to pay overtime to keep things going but there comes a point when you jsut can't do that any longer for legal reasons to do with working hours and also safety as tired MWs are of course not a good thing. They went to recruitment twice but didn't fill all the posts until recently. The decision making was done on a week by week basis until finally they had to close.

They confirmed that the HB cancellation was preventative. The board felt that they needed equality. They could not have large numbers of women who had been due to give birth at teh MLU switch to HB as they did not have the staff and the board felt it would be unfair to refuse new HBs while attending others. The MWs went away and thought about it and decided they wanted to honour those booked in for HB from the start of their pregnancy and they went backto the board with that.

They took on board that communication of this back to the women concerned had been poor and they said they had learned a few lessons there. They will be making better use (hopefully!) of the trust website so that accurate information and updates can be posted there rather than having lots of hearsay floating around. They also mentioned a problem with the way they file things with regards to who is giving birth where that did not give them accurate figures. Apparently they used to have files right fro the start of pregnancy but a while ago it was streamlined to only have the 34 week confirmation. They said they would have to look back at that and perhaps change it.

They talked al ittle about how they are going to change staffing for the future to guard against haivng problems like this again. This will take time as it will have to go through lots of levels as it will mean a fairly major restructure. Not that I followed all of that but apparently it will help!

They stressed that every year they fight to point out how well the MLU is used compared to other stand alone units and to keep it going. They would love more people to use it although of course geographically it just isn't possible for a lot of people but even withing Bishop itself people don't use it much. Ditto HB, they are very pro and are interested to see what wil happen after all the recent talk that more women shouyld have babies in MLUS or at home. They said part of our problem really is the low rate so ratehr than meaning that it should be easy to cover them it means that we don't have a dedicated HB team. If we had a higher rate then there would be the possibility of funding for a dedicated team. We can only dream!

The message yeaterday was that all the available jobs have been filled and several long term sick are making moves to come back. The MLU and HB will be back to normal in September.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 09/08/2011 21:03

Think the weather is going to be crap all week. Does anyone fancy a park meet up next week? Can do Wednesday or Friday next week.

spiggy · 11/08/2011 11:47

juney- sent you a msg on fb- possible one off job. don't worry about saying no if it is no good!

StealthPolarBear · 12/08/2011 09:07

Hello everyone, anyone around?

OP posts:
spiggy · 13/08/2011 09:22

I'm here but you're probably not now Grin

Kara I don't think I can do next week. Out on wed and fri is jab day. last time he slept all day after them so I'm hoping for the same reaction so I can sleep as well! How are evenings going with C? T has started going down between 7 and 8:30. Means I'm getting some evening time but that is offset against the 2 hourly wake ups once I do go to bed!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 13/08/2011 09:26

Better late than never??

Would anyone be interested in a Meetup at Tweddle's Farm It is in Blackhall Colliery near Hartlepool.
It is fab, absolutely loads to do there, feeding the animals including baby ones, seeing the rabbits, tractor rides, crazy golf, indoor and outdoor play area. There is a cafe there too (which does the most gorgeous cheesecake) but also has plenty of indoor and outdoor picnic areas.
£5.50 for adults and £4.50 for the over 2's. We have a season ticket so we are going alot, even on wet days there is plenty to do.

Totally understand if you think it is a bit far!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 13/08/2011 09:27

There is a group ticket, £18 for 2 adults and 2 children.

juneybean · 14/08/2011 14:58

My relationship is over :(

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2011 15:00

oh juney I'm so sorry, what happened? (if you want to talk about it)
