May be a bit of a long shot, but I am in Auckland Labour Weekend. Anyone fancy meeting for coffee?

Ghosty · 25/09/2003 07:21

Excellent! When is Labour weekend? Is it end October??
If so then I am up for it ...
I will pass on the message to Sibble and Britabroad ... Sibble's computer's blown up I think so I'll give her a ring and am seeing Britabroad next week!

bobthebaby · 25/09/2003 07:41

Labour Weekend is 25-27 October. We are staying in an apartment next to the Hilton (won in a competition before you think I'm really flash)

Where do you normally meet up - perhaps the toilets in Auckland museum

OP posts:
Ghosty · 27/09/2003 02:09

Toilets at Auckland Museum ... cool!
Seriously ... there is a nice cafe in Auckland Domain near the Museum ... will try to remember its name ... it has a posh restaurant attached to it but the cafe is not too posh and do good coffee and yummy cakes!!!
Or somewhere in Parnell? But then if you are based in the city then the park would be better ...
Will we meet with or without children? Obviously at the weekend I can leave DS with DH ... which is my favourite scenario ... but if you are bringing 'bob' then I will bring DS ...

buzzybee · 27/09/2003 06:38

Just happens I am coming to Auckland for a Women in Mgmt conference on the Tue after Labour weekend so could potentially come up earlier! Would probably prefer Labour Day but let me know what others think. I went to a couple of London meet-ups last year before coming back here (now live in Wellington) which were fun. We didn't bring kids as I think everyone wanted an excuse for dh to babysit!

bobthebaby · 29/09/2003 03:47

Hi all, sorry for delay - computer hard drive died over the weekend. Cafe in Auckland Domain sounds ideal. I will have to bring Bob as he doesn't do solids yet, so leaving him with dh could be stressful for both. Labour day sounds good, it would be good to see you Buzzy Bee.

OP posts:
Ghosty · 29/09/2003 08:01

Excellent Buzzybee ... the more the merrier ... any other takers out there??
I have just seen Sibble and Britabroad this afternoon and they are keen to meet up too ... presumable Labour day is the Monday isn't it? Still not up on my NZ national holidays!
Obviously you have to bring young Bob so that's not a problem ... DS is nearly 4 though so I might just leave him with DH (unless DH is playing cricket) so that I can have a good chat with you all ...
Sibble and Britabroad mentioned the cafe in Cornwall Park ... it is a nice one ... is that too far for you two to get to? We have all got transport so it is easy for us to get into town nearer to you but if you can get to Cornwall Park (Greenlane) then it's a nice place to meet and the kids can have a run around.
So ... what time on Labour day ... I am totally flexible ... except evening might be difficult if DH is playing cricket ... but I could find a babysitter ...

bobthebaby · 29/09/2003 23:47

We have a hire car, and if its Cornwall Park my dh will probably see an Auntie in Mt Eden. If I can express some milk I could leave ds too as she runs a nursery and must know about getting milk in reluctant babies!
It will have to be morning on labour day as we fly home in the afternoon. As Buzzy Bee can't bring her kids shall we say no kids, except babies?

OP posts:
Ghosty · 30/09/2003 00:38

I like that idea bobthebaby - no kids except babies ... !! I will put it to Sibble and Britabroad ... If we can't leave kids behind (due to DHs and all of that) then we might have to bring them with us ... but we can play that by ear.
Morning is good for me ... will check that with S and B

sibble · 30/09/2003 01:29

Am at work so will be quick. Morning should be fine. Will depend on whether DS and DH are behaving on the day as to whether I have to bring DS!!!
Am really looking forward to seeing everybody

buzzybee · 02/10/2003 04:19

As a non-Aucklander could someone please supply instructions for the preferred location - also how to get there by public transport? Time?

sibble · 03/10/2003 00:57

Am useless with public transport. Where will you be staying as I could pick you up from there and take you to the venue and back (Providing I can find you!!). If you want ask Tech to give you my email address. Sorry have to rush as emailing from work. Look forward to seeing everybody.

Britabroad · 05/10/2003 11:21

wow ! haven't posted on mums net for awhile and now this!
Just let me know when, where etc and as for lifts just give me a shout too.
THanks for letting me know Ghosty

bobthebaby · 14/10/2003 07:43

Okay, its getting close, so to summarise:

Place: Cafe in Cornwall Park (anyone know the name, or provide directions)
Time: 11am?
Children optional but welcome- good excuse for dh's and dp's to do some childcare for the day.
Labour Day is 27th October.

I am looking forward to meeting you all.

OP posts:
sibble · 14/10/2003 20:20

Don't know name but is left hand entrance if coming along Green Lanes from motorway (on same side as women's hospital) or just past race course on right if coming from Mount Eden.
11am sounds great.

buzzybee · 17/10/2003 23:43

OK I think I've got myself sorted now. I'm flying up from Wellington on Labour Day Monday and arrive in Auckland at 10.30am so will take a cab straight from the airport to Cornwall Park. How will we recognise each other? I'm looking forward to it!

Ghosty · 20/10/2003 00:26

Buzzybee ... I live near the airport ... shall I pick you up - don't waste the money on a cab!

So: We have Ghosty, Buzzybee, bobthebaby, Sibble and Britabroad ... is that right? Have I missed anyone?
Monday 27th October ...
Cornwall Park Cafe ... can't remember the name but you can't miss it ... it is in the middle (approached from Green Lane as Sibble says) at the top of the big steps ... next to the visitors centre and opposite 'Acacia Cottage' - an old settler's cottage put there on show ...

11am (might be nearer 11.15 for me and Buzzybee if I pick her up) ...

I still don't know if I will bring DS ...

Don't know how I will recognise bobthebaby or buzzybee but I am up the duff and look like a teletubby ... Sibble and Britabroad are a bit dodgy looking too (Only joking!!)

bobthebaby · 20/10/2003 01:32

LOL Ghosty at the airport with a sign that says "buzzybee"

I don't know whether to wear a single red rose or not. No, I guess I will just approach all pregnant women (with or without a 4 year old) if I haven't already discoverd britabroad and sibble.

OP posts:
buzzybee · 23/10/2003 04:37

Ghosty that would be absolutely fantastic! Flight NZ420 arrives 10.30am.
I'm tall with dark hair and will wear a bright red Kathmandu jacket.

Ghosty · 23/10/2003 05:27

Excellent buzzybee! I will see you then ... I will hold up a sign !!!!

Everyone else ... that means that buzzybee and I will be at the cafe in Cornwall park between 11 and 11.30 depending on whether a) we find eachother b) we like eachother and c) her plane arrives on time and d) traffic ...
See you then!!!

Ghosty · 26/10/2003 19:15

I am a bit scared now ... DH just said that he has heard of internet abductions and says that Buzzybee is probably a big bloke with lots of tattoos and that I will never been seen again!!!
Too late now though ... I can't not pick her up and she has probably left by now!!!
Oh well, will report back afterwards (if I come back ) ...

Buzzybee most definitely is not a big bloke with lots of tattoos!! She is lovely and so is bobthebaby ... and so is young bob the baby!! We had a nice lunch and a chat and then a little walk around the park ...
Sibble and I then took advantage of a day without our dss and had a mooch around the shops ...
I had a really nice day today ... thanks you three!!

bobthebaby · 27/10/2003 07:23

I had a great time too. The original bob is now tucked up completely worn out. I'm not actually far behind him. A great meet up.

On the plane back to Christchurch they sat us behind a party of 18 deaf people - and it was a good job too. I think ds got louder because they ignored him the first time.

I had a great time too. Lets do it again next time people are in town.

codswallop · 27/10/2003 19:23

I love this - the fact that you lot met up so far away from us ( I low its all releveant but)
