It is time to gather the troops :) All are welcome, newbies, lurkers, usual Durham thread rabble and anybody else out there.

First up a vote on the date:

4th December

Kara
Indith
Juney
Frozen

11th December

Leggy
Indith
Juney
Frozen

Small babies welcome. We all know how much you can long for a meal out yet be unable to bring yourself to leave the baby so as long as you are happy to bring them, we are happy to have them.

Please suggest places to go for a nice drink or 2 (cocktails anyone?) and a meal. The date which most people can make will be booked.

Curiousmama · 04/11/2010 10:05

I start work in Durham in January but its going to take time to move my family/sell house/find schools etc - so will have to stay over during the week for a while. Not a job I have to be there 5 days a week luckily. Big change for us but very excited!

Spent a few days last week looking around the city (found Vennells...) Grin

Mytholmroyd · 04/11/2010 18:04

forgot to say - thanks everyone for the hellos! Yes plan on being there for a good while!

SparklePffftBANG · 04/11/2010 18:24

excellent :) can I ask where you work? be as vague as you like, or ignore me completely if you'd prefer :)

juneybean · 04/11/2010 18:46

name change???

juneybean · 04/11/2010 18:47

Ah tis you! I was like who is this stranger stalking our newbie!

Curiousmama · 04/11/2010 20:43

name tags sounds good but think we'd get funny looks...unless we go all corporate Wink

SparklePffftBANG · 04/11/2010 20:49

:) Sorry for worrying you juney
I want name tags!
We could have tasteful hen-night style T shirts made

juneybean · 04/11/2010 21:18

ooo or untasteful sashes Grin

juneybean · 04/11/2010 21:18

distasteful?? whatever....tacky!

Mytholmroyd · 04/11/2010 22:04

Hi Sparkle - will be working at the University.

PDog · 04/11/2010 22:06

I have been added to the Facebook group so can start putting names to faces.

I'm contemplating taking a crib sheet though, to avoid the embarassment of calling someone by their nn Blush.

Or we could get those tack-tastic paper glasses with the feathers on to write our names on Grin.

Curiousmama · 05/11/2010 10:35

So what name is this table booked in?

Yes think sashes is the way forward...I'll get on with making mine this afternoon Wink

juneybean · 05/11/2010 11:59

I think it'll be "Roberts"

A lot of you work at the university, I think I need a degree so I can work at the university too!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 05/11/2010 12:20

Curiouwsmama - we're MNers we care less for funny look from lesser mortals Grin

Do you remember when we went to the Capital and SPB was feeding her DD? Some of us were glaring at cat bum face woman.

juneybean · 05/11/2010 12:41

She was most affronted wasn't she?

Indith · 05/11/2010 12:52

Yes it is in my name so "Roberts".

Myth I hope it doesn't take you too long to sell and get all the family moved. Durham is a lovely little city to live in :). You'll be in good company working for the university too.

So looking forward to it! Cocktails- yum. Curry- yum. Garlic chicken or the yummy prawn sag type thing. Decisions decisions. Poppadoms must be had of course and garlic naan.

Indith · 05/11/2010 12:53

Maybe I should bring dd. She may have stopped feeding but that doesn't stop her from exposing me and yelling "milk!" we could see what sort of reactions we get Grin

Do all of you work at the Uni???? Which college should I join?

Indith · 05/11/2010 13:20

Not all no! I am a recent graduate and did a few little bits of casual work afterwards. Leggy works there and Frozen is studying.

What are you after from a college? What will you be doing at the uni? Not sure really as staff member what the pros/cons are. The 2 I know best are Castle (my old college) and Chads (dh's). Chads is small and there is a good relationship between the SCR and the JCR so if you want to be involved with teh students it is probably very good. Castle there is less interaction I think although all undergrads have a college tutor who is a fellow. You would of course get to go to meals at top table in the great hall and feel all Harry Pottery.

Mytholmroyd · 05/11/2010 14:03

Hi Indith. Yes been in the Castle dining room once - very grand! I will be lecturing on the science site so was looking at St Marys? Was hoping I might be able to get a room for a while after Christmas (somebody might have left!). I am moving from a Uni that doesnt have colleges so its all new to me.
