Has anyone struggled with exercise while doing low-carb

I started low carb on Wednesday last week. I did a 5 mile run/walk on Saturday and a 9 mile walk yesterday and attempted a 3 mile slow run today and had to walk half way , then felt quite light headed and struggling to function after, went to the supermarket and forgot my trolley, slow to find my word to answer my DC.

Ended up having a bread roll and do feel a bit better since.

Anyone else found exercise and low carb not working for them? I have just over 3 stone to lose so thought low carb would help as I have been exercising for about a year.

Is it worth doing low carb if I need some carbs before a run? Any advice is welcome

Yes i can get quite dizzy if i don’t eat enough beforehand - bananas and greek yoghurt usually help me get through a workout - then protein afterwards.

Your body needs carbs to fuel exercise, particularly if you're relatively new to it or exercising at high intensity. By all means cut back on sugar and refined carbs like white flour but carbs from veg or wholefoods are very different for your body. And even refined carbs consumed shortly before, during and after exercise all get used to fuel your muscles so have a very benign impact.

@1willgetthere the other thing to consider in the early days of low carbing is your electrolyte balance - you need to make sure you're getting sodium, magnesium and potassium. A supplement like Zero, from High5, is a good way to get these.

Really listen to @BIWI

She's the low carb queen.

I exercise on low carb, and don't struggle.
But it's very hot, which doesn't help

Thanks for the replies, I will get some electrolytes and bananas to go with my greek yogurt.
Rest day today, and planning a wholemeal toast before my run in the morning.

Thanks for the book recommendation too
