Hi everyone
I started keto pretty strictly 2 weeks ago
Weight loss has been extremely modest I've lost about 3 pounds
My blood sugar was out of control because I was eating fish and chips every day on holiday and ice creams etc
However up til today apart from low energy I haven't felt any different
What happens now? I am taking extra salt because I suffer from low sodium anyway
What else can I do or just sit it out?
Will I finally start losing weight now?
When I did this last year the weight fell off straightaway
Thanks 😊

Cantwait4weightloss · 22/08/2025 13:56

Chicken wraps or tuna wraps
Curry with rice
Ice cream
Maybe crisps
Got into the habit of having gluten free cake a lot aswell
I used to walk alot but no energy now

Cantwait4weightloss · 22/08/2025 17:57

Now I have
Fried or boiled eggs with keto bread rolls
Tuna mayo on lettuce
Lamb curry with cauliflower mash or salmon with zero carb noodles
Sometimes keto mug cake
Online calculator says I'm under 30g caeb
No fruit no diet drinks

I don't understand any of this.
Is it irony?

Returnofjude · 22/08/2025 18:03

You’ve felt crap all day? But only for today?

I have to say… it sounds like one of the most unappealing diets I think I can recall seeing on mumsnet

What don’t you understand? This is in the low-carb diet forum and is about eating low carb. It seems pretty self-explanatory.

doodleschnoodle · 22/08/2025 18:06

Do you have to do strictly keto, OP? You can reduce carbs and prioritise protein and get a very good result without having to almost eliminate carbs. Some people really thrive on keto but it doesn’t suit me, however I do eat high protein just as a matter of choice, not a diet, which has the side-effect of naturally reducing carbs.

Any large change to diet and especially if you’ve nuked calorie intake will affect you. Are you eating enough?

Sorry. I read it all back to front!
Ignore me. I'm an eejit.

Oh I did that at first actually, thought the first post was the new diet! 😂

Cantwait4weightloss · 22/08/2025 18:11

My blood sugar was really high
I'm not overweight but having so much junk in my diet was causing those black marks on my neck and skin tags started growing plus sweating at night and eyes going blurry
That's all stopped now and my neck has virtually cleared all the dark patches
I will introduce more fruit and beans from next week
I just wanted to really get the sugars down straightaway
I don't understand why some people are acting like I'm doing something crazy
I eat what the rest of the family has just no carbs
If we do a roast leg of lamb there's plenty of veg for me that doesn't include potatoes

you are making out this diet was the devil incarnate

was it really that bad Op? Or is this the sugar coated version?

OP you’re posting on mumsnet about how you now have “no energy” and feel utterly shite

sounds appealing to me ,even thinking I could manage similar .Would struggle with no fruit .

Keto flu usually appears after 24-48 hours and last 2-5 days or so. It's odd to me that you are getting these symptoms now.

It's suggests you weren't low carb enough before or it's unrelated to the diet. In my experience you start feeling better and better after 10-14 days.

One thing to check is the keto 'junk food' that is processed food that claims to be keto. Some versions of keto have you only counting net carbs and lots of 'keto' food go with this rather then total carbs. Might be worth checking your bread rolls, tbh it's best to avoid this kind of food in the first two weeks and introduce later to allow your body to properly adjust.

The first time I ketoed it was recommended that you eat under 20g total carbs, not net carbs. It might be that you simply weren't eating a low enough level and and as a result your body has taken this long to properly deplete your glucose reserves.

If it is indeed keto flu then good and bad news. Bad news, you will feel crap for a couple of days. Drink lots, take painkillers, rest, treat it like a cold,.

Good news, you will actually get into ketosis and feel great.

Cantwait4weightloss · 23/08/2025 07:35

The bread rolls are homemade
Supposedly have 3.5g net carbs
But @Cerialkiller I think you're right
I probably had a lot of sugar swirling around and my carb count too high
I will give it a few more days thanks

Night sweats and blurry eyes? Have you checked you don't have diabetes? I'd get your blood sugar done asap.

You can still radically reduce sugar without going keto. Keto didn't suit me at all. Mediterranean worked, (and works long term) - loads of veg, small amount of fruit, potatoes, brown rice etc. Try that.

Hi.

  1. Forget the rolls. Have another egg if you must. Even go short on food. Intermittent fasters , some, skip breakfast but hard if the family are around eating theirs. Black coffee with the breakfast.
  1. Forget the mayo. Posh Olive oil, few drops. If you must. Tinned tuna is dry though.
  1. Forget the noodles. Not sure what cauliflower mash is but more cauliflower. Bit of olive oil, or butter might cheer it up. Salmon sounds yum. So does lamb. Maybe forget the curry sauce. Stuff in jars best avoided. Meat browned with fried onions garlic and powder spices yum.
  1. No idea what a mug cake is but if you're on keto weight loss go without cake until you're well on your way.
  1. No fruit or fake sweet drinks good. Water.

But under 30g carb would be fine

I drink lots of black coffee.

Just my thoughts. I'm keen on low carb healthy fat eating. Hardest for me is alcoholic drinks. Easiest to go without whilst on the journey. But sparkling water ice and lemon helped me fit in down the pub. Gin and slim tonic is OK
