Where would you recommend? We're near a large town with most chain restaurants.

Anything Italian (apart from solely pasta and pizza, obviously!) and French is usually pretty good. If you have a Côte, they have some good options.

Chinese/Thai/Japanese can be difficult to negotiate.

But don't be afraid to ask if the restaurant will substitute things for you - or lose them altogether. e.g. if you're having steak, ask for a green salad instead of the chips, or if it's a burger, ask for it without the bun (and the chips, clearly!)

I've never been refused when I've asked like that.

I know I can ask for a burger without the bun or the chips, and that sort of thing, but I was hoping to find somewhere I can order 'ordinary'. What about Nando's?

Shame about Thai and Japanese. They're my favourite cuisines, even without the rice and noodles.

Nandos is pretty good, from memory @Dilbertian . I'll have a look at their menu now.

BIWI · 23/02/2023 17:37

Yep - if you just look at the different Peri-Peri chicken options, they're all just chicken, without wraps/rice etc.

And from the sides, the salad or the broccoli, and then from the extras grilled halloumi or mushrooms.

Perfectly 'ordinary'! Enjoy.

Miller and Carter are excellent for keto but pricey. Nandos is my go to out for lunch option - I have some form of chicken, broccoli and coleslaw. Yes I know coleslaw isn’t as low carb as would be ideal but I think it’s ok to have some in the great scheme of things and far better than having chips anyway.

Any steak place is good.

I just went out for Indian and that worked too. We had lamb chop and Dahl soup starters, then chicken tandoori, and saag paneer, without rice or Nan. It worked really well and we didn't feel bloated after.....

One problem is that I don't like lumps of meat. I like fish, can cope with mince and chicken, but would not touch a steak
