What if you eat something high carb and high fat

I am new to this ( week 3) but I'm guessing high carb cancels any benefit of high fat? I've cut out things like biscuits and cakes, which I ate loads of before as a quick pick me up, but struggling with extras at meal times like crisps ( mini cheddars and too much pasta). I've had eggs, which I wouldn't normally eat and more veg, salad. Bit of a shock to my system and felt very run down this week, so not as much walking as pre diet ( my dog has a bad leg too so less motivation ) , although just went jogging ( second attempt.)

Is rice good or bad ? I know it's quite high GI but it's not refined like pasta or bread?

So no weight loss this week Sad only 9kg to go.

If u you sure lie carving properly you need high fat, no carb, definitely no rice.

SookieHouseboat · 06/02/2022 10:56

Definitely no rice! I boil some eggs to eat as snacks, cream cheese in Parma ham, I bake lots of lovely things with almond flour to snack on, I’ve just made the best pizza ever with cauliflower and mozarella. You have to research and be creative. It’s an amazing way of eating but you do need to be committed.

SookieHouseboat · 06/02/2022 10:59

Also lots of good fats, avocado, oily fish, olive oil over almost everything. Nuts in moderation. Your body is burning fat now, it’s no NO carb, you get those from the loads of veg you should be eating now but you’re body might be experiencing carb flu, the process of ketosis. You really cannot mix high carbs with high fat. A recipe for disaster.

Not no carb, I meant.

FusionChefGeoff · 06/02/2022 11:06

Sounds like you would benefit from doing some research around high carb foods! Off the top of my head things I don't eat:

Bread
Cake / biscuits / sweets
Sugar
Pasta
Potatoes / sweet potatoes
Rice
Flour
Most fruit

Only in moderation:
Carrots / peas / sweetcorn
Pulses / beans / chickpeas
Berries
Dark chocolate 70-85%

Prepared foods eg coleslaw / sauces I try to use less than 5g per 100g of carbs as a guide to is something low carb. So if it's higher it's ok but only if it's a very small amount eg ketchup.

But different people have different tolerances to carbs plus I run 15 miles a week so can get away with slightly more than someone who doesn't.

Eat whole "real" fresh foods like eggs, fish, and loads of veg. Cut out the processed stuff like pasta, vegetable oils. Keep an eye on calories in and out and walk a lot.

This makes it really easy and simple - I've stayed around my exact target weight for a year now within a pound or two either way because of this and have so much energy.

pickledonionsandwine · 06/02/2022 13:47

@SookieHouseboat do you buy full fat cheese or reduced fat ? I'm not keen on ham, but will try to roast some meat to have cold, or buy some cooked chicken thighs.

@FusionChefGeoff I'm easing in, I can't switch everything over night. I had gestational diabetes when pregnant, so do have experience of limiting carbs. I've just fallen off the wagon and been relying on quick fix snacks. I had to do it then, this is harder as I'm opting to. Different mindset.

Ooh, everything is full, full, full fat! It’s the fat that you’re looking for.

dipdye · 06/03/2022 19:36

High fat, high carb = weight gain.

@pickledonionsandwine ... are we talking about Keto here, as the effect can depend.
When on Keto, you adapt your body to use fat. After a few weeks you'll be fat adapted. If then you have some days with high carbs, you'll be super efficient at burning through those carbs and get back to ketosis.

I am reading too that on those days it should be high carb but low fat.

TO ME that still sounds like a diet. The only reason i'd need those 'days' is because i want to fully cheat, i.e. social events, nights out, etc. and that means high fat and high carbs.

I am also looking for answers to what they may do to me week in week out (5 days keto, 2 days 'cheat').

If its going to wreak havok on my body, i may aswell just come off Keto altogether.

But one thing I do know is- high fat and high carb means something is going to get used up more efficiently than the other and therefore if in calorie surplus, more than likely going to be stored!
