Tonight we're gonna diet like it's 2009 - Dukan!

Several years ago I lost nearly 2 stone on Dukan. I was naughty though and didn't carry on with the Consolidation and Stabilisation phases, and definitely not eaten well over the past year, so gradually I've put back on again.

So I've resolved to start over, and do it properly this time! I've started this thread mainly for myself, I realise most people prefer Keto these days and Dukan is very 10 years ago! But if anyone fancies joining they'd be v welcome.

I'm starting with 3 days Attack on Monday.

I think philly extra light is a tolerated food, so only from cruise and can only have 30g. I've only had it a couple of times, not every day.

I've never had tofu. I looked at some when I went shopping at the weekend and almost bought it. Wonder if it would airfry?

zippityzip · 15/03/2022 19:29

@zobalina77 genuinely wouldn't bother. It's vile 😂 don't waste your time

Ahhh I'm not there yet. On attack until Saturday. Boo.

zippityzip · 16/03/2022 06:23

So I'm day 3 and this morning I weighed 11st exactly. Which means I'm 6lbs down 🧐 I'm assuming is all water weight. But Jesus I didn't realise how much alcohol was making my hands swell. My wedding rings are swishing around.
If anything at least I'm less bloated.

Can I steal some inspiration for lunch. Dinner tonight is heck sausages.

zobalina77 · 16/03/2022 17:36

6lb in 3 days is amazing, well done. I'm having cottage pie with cauliflower mash on for tea, made a batch of it the other day as I knew I wouldn't want to cook after being on placement.

Don't know if I have much meal inspiration for you really. On my protein days I tend to be quite boring and have meat with poached eggs and jelly or fat free Greek yogurt for pudding. I've got a dukan cookbook but not looked at it much as I've only been doing this for a couple of weeks.

zippityzip · 17/03/2022 06:23

@zobalina77

Cottage pie and cauliflower mash sounds lovely. What are the rules regarding gravy? I'm dreaming of veg again. Sounds like you've prepared well.

I'm slightly disappointed as the scales didn't move this morning but I did have a ton of sodium yesterday so maybe that's why. And my skin has broken out. Maybe it's having a sugar purge.

My husband is absolutely miserable as I've put him on the diet too. He needs it just as much as I do 😂 but the sulking is starting to get to me. I was going to suggest he stops and I'll carry on solo but I don't know how I'll be able to resist temptation when he's shovelling chocolate or bread.

EatSleepReplete · 01/04/2022 21:54

Is this thread still going? I was thinking of doing this diet, I used to do low carb/keto but the high fat intake really triggers my IBS quite a lot so it's not great for me.

KateMiddletonsBodyDouble · 03/04/2022 17:38

Hi @EatSleepReplete
Yep I'm still here! Just back from holiday though when I ate all of the carbs hence haven't weighed in for a couple of weeks. I'll be back on it from tomorrow if I can shake my rubbish cold. I put on about 3lbs while being away which isn't too bad considering how far off the wagon I fell!

OP posts:
KateMiddletonsBodyDouble · 03/04/2022 17:39

@zippityzip @zobalina77 how are you both getting on?

OP posts:
EatSleepReplete · 04/04/2022 12:08

Hi! Starting today, I spent the last couple of days getting prepared, making sure I have ingredients & t least a few recipes fir the first week. I'm on a restricted diet anyway (low tyramine due to chronic migraines) so I can't have ham, most sausages, aged meat etc, & I can't have leftovers or do meal prep in advance.

SW: 10st 11.6
GW 8st 7lb or thereabouts.
I'm just under 5'3" & quite small framed. Will be 41 this month. Been overweight for most of the past decade, since I got pregnant with DD, I never managed to lost the baby weight & actually keep it off. I was pretty slim before that.

EatSleepReplete · 04/04/2022 21:28

Not a bad first day, I had a galette for breakfast (actually 3 tiny ones) with some cinnamon sprinkled on top.
I was in a hurry to get something quick for lunch so TBH I just had a tin of salmon with some dill & black pepper.
Snack - a hardboiled egg
Dinner was prawns & zero carb noodles in ricotta, with some fresh herbs & garlic. Quite nice actually.

A couple of PPs upthread mentioned tofu. IME for savoury dishes it's only tolerable either fried (in a decent amount of oil) or marinated & then baked, but I think you'd still need something either oily or sugary to stick the marinade on. However I've heard of silken tofu being used for sweet type dishes such as vegan cheesecake, in place of cream cheese etc (it's a common vegan food). I've never used it for that but if it's a permitted food it might be worth a go. Also, I'd look into which brands are better, apparently some are considerably better than others. Personally I'm not keen unless it's drenched in garlic, ginger & soy sauce.

KateMiddletonsBodyDouble · 04/04/2022 21:39

Well done @EatSleepReplete that sounds like a great first day!
I'm not quite back on it yet as have a horrible cold so trying to max out on veg at the moment to get better before restarting post-holiday with attack. If I'm better in the morning I'll go for it, otherwise will be Wednesday!
What zero carb noodles do you have? Shiritaki/konjac?

OP posts:
EatSleepReplete · 05/04/2022 05:31

I prefer these noodles. I found them when I was doing LCHF. They need a good rinse & are greatly improved by being given a really good fry in a non stick pan with a tiny bit of oil & just enough liquid to stop them sticking. For several minutes if you have the nerve to do it! I don’t recommend boiling them though, not good… they do a “rice” too which I’ve not tried yet. I thought I might try egg “fried” rice & chicken later this week.

KateMiddletonsBodyDouble · 05/04/2022 07:45

Ah yes, I have those! They are konjac Smile I cook them exactly the same way you do, you need to get the horrible smelling water out don't you! The rice is pretty good actually. They also do a fettuccine which is nice if you fancy pasta.

OP posts:
Velveteenchair · 05/04/2022 08:00

Can I join?

I’ve found that spiralised courgettes make an excellent spaghetti substitute.

KateMiddletonsBodyDouble · 05/04/2022 08:10

Oooh yes please do!

I've only ever bought microwaved courgetti and they went a bit slushy so v happy to hear anyone's tips!

OP posts:
EatSleepReplete · 05/04/2022 08:26

@Velveteenchair I'm also interested in courgetti. I tried it a couple of times but, like Kate, mine went mushy - how long do you cook it for? Are you not supposed to cook it? I think I binned my spiraliser in the end TBH, I've only got a small kitchen & it was just another gadget I couldn't justify keeping.

Velveteenchair · 05/04/2022 10:44

I don’t cook it. I stir it through the sauce towards the end and the heat cooks it through. Never boil it in water!!

EatSleepReplete · 07/04/2022 14:00

Am on day 4 of Attack, how many days did you do? I might switch to the Cruise phase starting tomorrow or Saturday. Not sure. I'm definitely losing weight but it's not clear how much as my period just started yesterday so I went down a bit, then up, hopefully it will go back down again. And I've been a bit constipated but that's sorted now, I haven't weighed myself since that got better though. I've been adding wheat bran to my gallettes as well as the oat bran, & psyllium husk to yogurt. Psyllium husk is basically just fibre with no carbs or anything else, the texture leaves a lot to be desired unfortunately. It's less noticeable if you mix it into the yogurt with the oat bran, it all goes sort of grainy.

I got my dukan library books today & realised I've been using the wrong kind of soft cheese, it should be 1% fat not just low fat. So I have bought some quark to use instead of what I was using before. I also got some of the virtually fat free cheddar I saw recommended, it's not bad at all considering everything that's been taken out. Had a little bit crumbled on top of my gallette for lunch today.

I also got some mints that I ordered, I chose the multipack with all the different flavours in. I can't have certain artificial sweeteners as they give me migraines but xylitol is fine, albeit I'm not keen on it in some things because of the cooling effect which is weird & offputting. But in mints it's excellent. The ones I've tried so far (a strawberry pastille & a plain peppermint) I like, would buy again. I'm not usually a gum chewer, but I was worried about the possibility of bad breath etc due to ketosis. And hopefully it will stop me wanting/missing sweet stuff so much if I have something.

KateMiddletonsBodyDouble · 11/04/2022 10:39

Hi @EatSleepReplete how did your Attack phase go?
Having had 2 weeks off during holiday and then 1 week off straight after for covid (joy!) I'm back on it today with 3 days Attack.... Time to update the stats!

SW 11st 8
CW 11st 4
Interim target 11st

On PP days I tend to delay or skip breakfast as I don't feel very hungry first thing, then have an early lunch which is usually something breakfasty involving eggs, and then something meaty for dinner with a gallette. My fridge is full of low fat yogurt that's about to go out of date so that's my snacks sorted!

OP posts:
EatSleepReplete · 11/04/2022 19:24

Hi @KateMiddletonsBodyDouble, doing pretty well so far, I'm down to 10st 5.8lb (weighed this morning), so I'm getting close to my first half stone off. Pretty happy with that for my first week, but I don't imagine I'll carry on losing at that rate for very long.

Today I had galette for breakfast
Lunch was some smoked duck from Booths.
Dinner was mince with zero carb noodles & ginger/garlic/soy sauce, & a bowl of Vietnamese style soup I found on a website, but I can't find it now. It's basically galangal root, lemongrass, & a lime leaf, boiled. You then add whatever other ingredients you like, I added some soy sauce, rice vinegar, a tiny bit of veg stock, a spring onion, left it to boil some more, then dropped an egg in to poach. It was pretty good. (You don't eat the galangal, lime leaf, or lemongrass.)

I've also walked 5.8km.

KateMiddletonsBodyDouble · 12/04/2022 07:56

That soup sounds delicious!!! My dinner was less exciting, fish and prawns with a bit of Asian flavour and konjac rice. Very tasty though.
I completely forgot to have my oatbran yesterday! Doh!
Have you finished Attack yet?

OP posts:
Westfacing · 12/04/2022 08:02

I never did Dukan but a friend did - I remember the galettes!

Good luck.

EatSleepReplete · 12/04/2022 09:38

Yes I've finished Attack. I'm on a PV day today, and tomorrow actually as we're out for the whole day. I really don't fancy trying to do PP on a long day out TBH, I have other dietary restrictions so it's a bit tricky. Planning a nice chicken salad.

I've been searching all over for the website I found the recipe for that soup on but no luck. If you can get fresh lemongrass & galangal I think you can just put them straight into the boiling water but mine are dried, I soaked them in water for a few hours to rehydrate before making the soup, & used the water as well. I also added a bit of chilli, for heat. It was pretty good. I used to eat a lot of miso soup but I don't any more as soy is a migraine trigger if I have too much. A splash of soy sauce is ok but miso, tofu, tempeh, soy milk etc are a big problem. I tried veganism a while ago but it's so hard if you can't really eat soy. So I have to find other soups, as miso used to be my lazy go-to.

The fish & prawns dish sounds good. I like Asian style food, I make it a lot. Probably not very authentically though!

Sometimes I just stir the oat bran into some yogurt & add a bit of dried powdered cinnamon or ginger for flavour. (I'm too lazy to actually cook it into things every day.) I'm thinking maybe I should get organised & make one of those oat bran loaf things as a remedy/backup for the lazy days. I wonder how well they freeze...

Have you tried making galettes with buttermilk instead of the standard recipe? I did & they're pretty good.

KateMiddletonsBodyDouble · 14/04/2022 12:11

That soup really sounds delicious. It made me think that there's a few Thai soups that are probably OK for Dukan....I do love Tom yam.
Is buttermilk allowed? I always thought it was quite fatty but maybe not?
I'm on day 4 Attack today - should be first day of Cruise but like you I'm doing 2x PV days tomorrow/Sat so swapped days.
I was bang on 11st this morning so hopefully I'll be consistently in the tens soon. I made the dukan bread recipe I posted yesterday so looking forward to some of that at lunch Smile It freezes fine and you just pop a slice in the toaster, I can recommend if you're a bread fan (I always miss bread on this diet!)

OP posts:
EatSleepReplete · 14/04/2022 22:51

Not sure about buttermilk now... I thought I read on one site that buttermilk was ok but maybe not. The one I've got at the moment is about 1.4% fat, is that not ok?

I think I will have to stop being lazy & make some bread. I have galettes every morning because I CBA to organise anything else.
