Is there a way to flavour water and stay in ketosis?

I am so used to drinking water with a splash of sugar-free robinson's lemon... I know that I could train my palate to just drink water but is there any decent keto friendly powder to flavour water anyone could recommend?

Would stevia drops work?

PeaceLoveAndCandy · 22/02/2021 06:45

I don't know, that's what I'm asking. Would stevia make the water taste sugary?

I can't confirm but I wonder whether small amounts of fruits/juice/herbs would help give some flavour but without bringing you out of ketosis eg. steeping water with:

lemon / lime slices, rosemary, pomegranate juice droplets; or
mint, lime and cucumber; or
Apple and ginger?

Yes, stevia would make the water sweeter.

I do think that anything would require a mental adjustment while your tastebuds adjust.

Thanks. I wish I could just drink water. I mean I can, but not in the industrial quantities that are required for Keto. What I have done for now is a very diluted green tea, I think that should be okay. Not exactly tasty but...

What about plain sparkling water? It's an acquired taste but I find I prefer it to plain tap water and it quenches my thirst more too.

Put cucumber, lemon peel (not slices) and mint in the water. It's tasty, and after a day you won't miss the sweetness. Or try sparkling water.

Have a look at the Cambridge diet water flavourings, the pineapple and the orange one is gorgeous. Pricey on eBay but at least you can get them without a consultant x

Two things I have found that have made a big difference to my (increased) water intake are:

  1. Drinking warm water (rather than cold/icy) - surprisingly refreshing and honestly now I prefer it (just stop the kettle boiling part-way through the process);
  2. Adding a frozen lemon slice to cold water - delicious.

Those are great ideas thank you! Sparkling water didn't even occur to me!

On boards I used to follow people would have drunk tesco strawberry water, but I think they changed it so it was no longer allowed.

And coke zero.. which then also changed recipe so I don't know if it's allowed now either. But I'm completely addicted to it, so...

There are definitely some powdered things you can get for water on some keto type sites.

I use salt + chunk of lemon.

eventhecathasapenis · 25/02/2021 12:37

I second salt and chunks of fruit. There's evidence that overuse of artificial sweeteners can actually trigger an insulin response (which we're all trying to avoid by going low carb) simply because your body tastes 'sweet' and expects sugar.

I like herbal tea. Some of the fruit ones are crap hot but quite pleasant cold, especially if you make them deliberately a bit strong. Carb count will be basically zero, I think.
