Calories and my fitness pal

I started low carting a week and a half ago, I've been using mfp to check macros but it never lets me complete my diary as my calories are so low. They are averaging about 800 a day, I'm not trying to do this, I'm eating 3 good meals a day and am not even slightly hungry but this can't be good can it long term. I've lost 8 lbs already although I've just started on a higher dose of thyroxine for my hypothyroid as well so these could well be linked.

I feel good, plenty of energy and not at all hungry, is this normal?

It is quite common to feel really full when you low carb

It usually isn’t a calorie controlled diet and most people just eat to satiety. So I’d just ditch looking at your calories completely but listen to your body....EAT when you are hungry. The hunger is real hunger when you low carb and you must listen to it.

Can I ask what a typical 800 cal day of 3 meals looks like?

ditavonteesed · 29/02/2020 08:48

Breakfast 2 boiled eggs with a teaspoon of butter
Lunch. Chicken salad
Tea. Steak and green veg
Snacks either 2 baby bells or some full fat Greek yoghurt.

I know it doesn't look like much but I'm always full.

I wouldn’t have thought 800 calories would be enough to sustain an adult unless you’re bed bound! I wouldn’t call two eggs and a teaspoon of butter a good meal” and the rest does sound quite bland and flavourless unless that’s your taste.

I used MFP to monitor calories while eating a satisfying and varied diet - I lost 3.5 stones in 18 months, probably not as quick a weight loss as you’re looking for, OP, but I’ve maintained that weight for a year now.

It's not bland and boring at all, I'm finding it really satisfying and I wouldn't be able to restrict myself I naturally have no will power, I'm genuinely not hungry. I do tons of exercise and have a very physical job. I am finding it strange to feel this way after many years of trying everything possible to lose weight.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you (though I didn’t say boring, I said flavourless). I couldn’t eat food like that, even to lose weight, because I like food with lots of flavour and interest.

However, if you are doing “tons of exercise”, have a very physical job and yet are still not feeling hungry on just 800 calories, it might be worth checking in with your GP just to make sure everything is in order. You’re taking in less than half the recommended daily calorie intake for a woman and from the sounds of it, burning off quite a bit of what you’re taking in and yet not feeling hungry. That does sound unusual and could mean something’s not quite right.
