So I am going to try low carbing, I can't continue putting on weight at this pace.
I love cooking and eating and this doesn't help. Have a very appreciative DH who loves food but also loves the gym so is fine. Me, I'm not fussy food wise, love cooking for my family and feeding everyone BUT I need to get control. Have put on around 3 stone in the last 2 years. Cannot continue ignoring my dress size going up. So today I start....
Googled a few recipes/ideas and have been to Tesco's and bought loads of veg and chicken to get me started. Have planned today and tomorrow's dinners.
So tell me more, please share your tips and advice, meal ideas etc.
Is it possible to get near target by xmas?
Really want to do this, hate being fat mum 😥

Hi op I'm fairly new to LCHF, I started in August and so far have lost 12lb, had a 6lb loss the first week then a steady 1 or 2lb since.
My weight loss is alot slower than when I did slimming world but I'm enjoying it so much more.
I love full fat Greek yogurt
butter, cheese, pork belly, coffee with cream. Cheese omelettes.
I've only had a couple of slices of bread since August and no rice or pasta. I've had 2 jacket potatoes.
My favourite at the moment is chicken thighs with crispy skin, mushrooms and courgettes.
The best thing is I'm not hungry! I don't crave sweets even though I have had a very sweet tooth.
I do miss fruit but still have some berries with my yogurt, and still have a squirt of honey.
Good Luck!🍏

Thanks for your reply, had a good first day. I didn't realise most fruit is best avoided so I do have some grapes and pears that need eating. I can't bring myself to get rid.
So breakfast was a cheese omelette with a slice of ham.
Not sure about lunch yet, I have some celery and cream cheese I could have and a Greek yogurt for dessert.
Dinner is chicken thighs and veg.
I really think once I get the hang of this it could work. I just need to get Slimming world out of my mind as it goes against the 'plan'.
Any ideas or tips really welcome 🙂

in was the same with regards to slimming world! it's totally the opposite mindset. I used to eat so much fruit on SW so it was hard cutting right back at first.
I reckon it took 2 weeks and now I don't even feel hungry.
Yesterday all I had was full fat Greek yogurt with a few blackberries and squirt of honey (not really allowed but It doesn't seem to have done me much harm) and a sprinkle of chia seeds.
Then I had a shepherds pie with no potato but veg. In the evening I had an orange.
I used to always crave biscuits with my morning cuppa but now I have a cuppa and don't usually eat until 11am
it's totally changed my relation with food and I feel so much better.

I have just made keto porridge.

Coconut Flour
Ground Almonds
Hemp Hearts
Flaxseed
Chia Seeds

I added cream and some fresh blueberries when it was served. Sprinkle of xylitol sweetener on top. It's one of the nicest things I've had in ages.

Hi all mind if I join? On day 3 here and very happy so far. I don't feel deprived and definitely have much milder/less hunger/ no cravings. I am hoping to combine low carb with intermittent fasting soon, 2 meals a day or 16:8

NemoIsLost · 18/09/2019 15:44

welcome Chrissmas
The more the merrier, we can share hints and tips!
I've sort of been fasting from 8pm until 11am next day which is unheard of for me!

ChippingInLowCarbing · 18/09/2019 15:49

Any ideas or tips really welcome 🙂

Top Tip
Join BIWI & the gang on her Bootcamp threads - they’re all incredibly supportive and there’s nothing about ‘low carbing’ they can’t helo with!

It doesn’t matter what week they’re on, you’ll be welcome!

PS Give the fruit & honey to someone else! PEARS & grapes are high in sugar!

Chrissmasjammies · 18/09/2019 15:51

Thanks Nemo, I've tried combining fasting lately with a more calorie counting approach and just couldn't do it..am hoping the low carb approach will help. Trying to look on it as a permanent diet lifestyle change (I had Gestational diabetes in pregnancy so am at a higher risk of Type 2) so I wont be weighing myself anymore than once a month. I like they way I don't feel deprived. Shopping today I got more keto/low carb friendly foods, full fat Greek yog, almonds, real butter, chicken thighs, I've found a low carb soup that will be handy for lunches.

Justtheoneplease · 18/09/2019 16:17

Thanks everyone for the replies. Have given my daughter the fruit to eat. Going to cook chicken thighs , have roasted red pepper and courgettes and also make a broccoli and cauliflower cheese.
Need ideas for tomorrow's dinner now.
Will stock up on greek yogurt and berries for brekkie.
Need to get organised for lunches. But so far all going well 🙂

I'm interested in having a go at this. I lost a lot of weight a few years ago, but its been creeping back on. My brother does a fairly extreme version of the Keto diet, even though he doesn't need to lose weight, but he says he feels very well on it.

I cook for him when he comes, so am a bit up on it. I have discovered that celeriac and turnips are fairly low carb and they can be good substitutes for potato - a celeriac purée with lots of butter and cream is absolutely gorgeous.

Surprisingly tomatoes are meant to be OK. Lentils and beans aren't.

My brother used to eat berries, but has given those up as well now and eats no fruit at all, but munches on a lot of nuts.

He eats creamy cheeses with celery, peppers or cucumber.

Chrissmasjammies · 18/09/2019 17:04

It's very doable and some people do last on it long term. I am not that tall and my calorie requirement to maintain is about 1650 so I am wary of weight loss stalling because I exceed that even on very low carb foods. So I will give it another full month before weigh in. Right now my bmi is in the overweight range . Just wondering about alcohol on low carb, would I be right that vodka diet coke every now and then is ok?

NemoIsLost · 18/09/2019 17:13

I just can't give up all fruit at the moment. I'm sticking to raspberries and blackberries and slowly trying to ditch the honey Blush

Justtheoneplease · 19/09/2019 10:32

Just wondering do I have to have breakfast, I'm not a brekkie person and would rather have something later in the morning or a bigger lunch.
Just can't face it first thing. Will this be an issue?

You don't need breakfast. Dr Berg the keto guru on YouTube says people only need to have two meals a day - 11am and 5pm being the ideal times. One meal a day is fine as well.

Justtheoneplease · 19/09/2019 14:50

Thanks, i did have breakfast but pleased i don't have to.

I often don't have breakfast now, just a cup of tea.
Fallen off the wagon today with a bag of pick and mix at the cinemaBlush I feel so sluggish now

Chrissmasjammies · 19/09/2019 17:58

No worries Nemo tomorrow is another day! I am hanging in there. Trying to get to 2 meals but just haven't yet. Have found cabbage cooked in coconut oil very tasty.

RubySlippers77 · 04/10/2019 10:26

@NemoIsLost and @Chrissmasjammies - are you joining the next low carb bootcamp? The thread is over on 'weight loss chat'!

NemoIsLost · 05/10/2019 12:45

Hi @RubySlippers77 I'm on holiday right now so low carbing has totally gone out the window! but when I'm back I will certainly be back on it. I lost 12lb before I came away so I'm convinced it works.
How's it going with you?

nokidshere · 17/11/2019 20:37

Hi all

I've been low carbing now for just under 4 weeks (
