Low-carb diets

Question about LC

I tried low carb for three weeks and lost about 12lbs.
Everyone I have told has warned me it's not a good diet to stay on long term is this correct? I really enjoy this but don't want to carry on low carbing if I then have to go back to calorie counting in the end.

What do you want to achieve?

A target weight, healthy living or go back to what you were doing?

If you go to Diet doctors there are lots of experts telling you its is a healthy diet. Was the person who told you differently an expert?

concentrate on your goals, once you reach them review your life and make new choices to get to your new goals.

The answer to your question is ... it depends. A LCHF can be very healthy or bad for you depending on what you actually eat. Many skip the large amount of veg you need for nutrients.

Put this way: there are no studies showing that body fat and dietary fat as a main fuel is unhealthy but plenty of studies showing that glucose as a main fuel is not good for you in the long term.

@Grah0SoontobeaFitty is right. Diet Doctor is a strong resource.

She's also right - in my view - about having goals. Really important to make sure you know what you want, when you want it, then to align your food macro intake and exercise to achieve them. Most people are too vague about what they really want.

PS: there is no real need to calorie count once you're at the weight you achieve because the low carb nature of your nutrition plan curbs appetite.

To lose body fat faster doing LCHF I've found that curtailing calories a bit does lead to better results (without hunger bc you're in ketosis and feeding off of belly fat).

Also, IF is terrific. Very good for generation of growth hormone and testosterone. Once in ketosis IF is a very powerful tool for building muscle and "burning" more fat (fat doesn't actually burn does it).
