Hello! Day One Done - anyone want to join me?

SharkSkinThing · 29/09/2015 20:43

Just wanted to say hello and see if any other new starters wanted to buddy up for support and advice?

I've got 3 - 4 stone to lose, all gained AFTER having my DS who is now - god help me - 5. All down to long-term sleep deprivation and sugar reliance, and forming terrible habits. And wine to help me cope with the sleep deprivation,

Anyway, hoping to finally turn things around now that he's finally sleeping (sometimes until 5.30am!). Would love to chat to others who are finding that this WOE works for them.

xx

Pax I am really thrilled for you - there's def something wonderfully encouraging about breaking through those markers! Well done. You;ve worked very hard and really deserve it!

Yes, I fear a stall is true! My plan is to not give up, but instead start using My Fitness Pal to log my calories. Still l/c, but a bit more mindful of quantities. This will automatically knock out dairy but the protein should at least prevent me from feeling hungry.

Will weigh Fri and let you know!

Hey, the sun is out! Bloody hell! xxxx

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I know that the loss will slow down at some point but I'm feeling good about it at the moment. Am just about to sit down to chicken and veg, with a sneaky glass of wine - my one "naughty" for the week!

SharkSkinThing · 30/01/2016 20:33

Here, have one on me! Wine xxx

Pax, you might be the lucky one who doesn't slow down until 4-5lbs to go. :)

Shark log my calories Shock
the protein should at least prevent me from feeling hungry. This makes me think that maybe you're not eating enough fat and the cheese might not be the culprit in your case.
You lost quite a lot of weight and whilst a stall is normal, you might need to readjust your ratios.

I saw the sunshine too, yesterday and I was really hoping to wake up to it but it's back to rain today...at least it's not as windy as Friday!

I woke up super hungry for the last 3 days, maybe it's a ''cheese withdrawal'' symptom! I'm hungry again and I've only had breakfast just over a hour ago; it wasn't a tiny breakfast: 200g mixed salad, 3-4 cherry tomatoes, 1 avocado, 200g prawns and ~35-40mls of olive oil (large even by my standards).

I've, finally, got round to measure myself this morning and I've lost 0.5 cm pretty much everywhere, despite no weight loss. The fat-fat jeans were falling down yesterday.

FavadiCacao · 31/01/2016 11:04

I meant to add that as you lose more weight, you need to add more fat in the diet because your body will fight to retain the fat in the body, if there isn't enough dietary fat. Dr Phinney explains better

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 31/01/2016 13:51

Oh Favi, I really hope so!

SharkSkinThing · 31/01/2016 14:49

Good point, fav but I need to try this...4 weeks of stalling is beginning to piss me off!

It's DP's 50th in April and we're hosting a big party. My intention is to get to my goal (3 stone lost) by then, and I think this will work.

I'm also excited about adding some fruit finally, and pulses...I've really missed them! I am a low carb high protein convert to the end (it's cured my bottom issue for good!)...this way I can focus on the lean protein, veg and fruit etc and see if less calories help...it can't hurt!

Well done on your shrinkage!!

FavadiCacao · 31/01/2016 15:47

I have my fingers crossed for you, Pax! :)

Shark I would like to lose another stone by April too, for MIL 70th party.

I thought I was were you are just over year ago and did a lowish carb, high protein, low fat (Scarsedale diet). I lost something ~12kgs in two months. Although, delighted and super happy at the loss, I was back at being down, moody, painful and random periods, stressed, no energy... I reacquired many old habits that originally made gain weight and regained 15kgs. I can't face another yo-yo that comes with low calories dieting -I want to lose for good!- but I'll be here for you. :)
Could you try 3 days of fat fast, lowering the protein to 60-75g/day (240-300 cal) and increasing fat to 80+% of daily intake (eg. 100g=900cal) and keeping carbs under 50g (

SharkSkinThing · 31/01/2016 16:43

Thanks fav, you're a star and very thoughtful.

I am not, never ever ever, going back to my old habits of relying on bread and pasta to fill me up. It didn't, just left me hungrier and ballooning. I understand the yo yo hell. It's torture.

Tell you what...I'll see how I get on this week by basically eating the same but smaller portions and no dairy. If no loss, I'll take you up on your suggestions!

Will check out the book too, thank you!

Right - best serve my hungry family their roast then I'm off for a very long swim. Love evening swims...I take my pj's and drive home in them. Then straight to bed!!

Enjoy the rest if your Sun. Xxx

Finally starting to feel better, and jumping back on the low carb/high fat wagon today. What a long week that was!

Thefitfatty · 01/02/2016 07:43

Anyone have any breakfast suggestions besides eggs? Getting a bit sick of them, especially at the moment when I'm not fussed by food much at all.

FavadiCacao · 01/02/2016 10:26

Shark :)

Never, ever is what I said until I was introduced to triple seeded Genius bread (GF) and learnt how to make egg-pasta with chickpea flour! Grin Oh well, have I learnt a lesson?!
Dh is finally fully LC/HF (he doesn't need to lose any weight) which means no more bread in the house and no more requests of home-made pasta, pizza, bread -paleo or otherwise.

Fit -Glad to hear you're feeling better. :)
I treat breakfast as another meal, so anything goes. If in a rush, tuna mayonnaise, a few berries with cream/coconut milk, avocado and tomatoes with/without a few prawns, smoked/cured salmon and lettuce, mushrooms stuffed with flavoured cream cheese, etc. are super fast... I'll experiment with coconut milk as a substitute to cream cheese.

I had an empty* feeling this morning, so I decided to weigh myself: 1lb down and another 1cm off the waist. :)

  • I'm not sure what the right word would be, the entire body feels as it emptied (maybe of water?). I've started to track water %, the scales show it's down from yesterday.
Thefitfatty · 01/02/2016 11:24

Maybe grated coconut, coconut milk and some almonds, blueberries and walnuts? Hmm

FavadiCacao · 01/02/2016 13:49

That sounds yummy. :) I've not tried coconut milk and nuts before: I have almonds, hazelnuts and fresh pumpkin seeds that I could roast and chop into a granola style to have a go. I had a gorgeous vanilla coconut yogurt yesterday, which would go really nice with it. (I must learn how to make coconut yogurt!)

FavadiCacao · 01/02/2016 15:52

It so happens I had all the ingredients to make coconut yogurt. I added vanilla to it and it's fermenting in a warmed sterilised flask; it took less than 5 mins and if it tastes anything like it went it, I'll be very happy.

FavadiCacao · 01/02/2016 20:06

Tonight's dinner was very well received: crispy duck with pancakes, spring onions, cucumber and plum sauce. Grin
Five eggs worth of pancake mix (1 egg, 30g coconut cream-blitzed) stretched to 12 pancakes and was enough for 2 duck breast; each pancake needs ~1/2-1 tsp of fat (I used goose fat but coconut oil worked well the other day).

Plum sauce serve 2-3 (7-10g carbs)

6 plums destoned (from frozen cook quicker than fresh)
1tsp cider vinegar
1 tbs lemon, freshly squeezed
ginger, grated
2 lobes of star anice
2 cloves
1 pinch of cinnamon
salt
chilli
1/2 glass of water

Simmer plum with cider and lemon juice until soft enough to blend;
Blend;
Add other ingredients;
Simmer until a soft jam consistency;
Remove cloves and star anice before serving.

SharkSkinThing · 01/02/2016 21:08

Nice to have you back, fit. Fingers crossed you stay well, sounds like you've had a rough old time.

I know, fav, I know....old habits and all that!

Feeling good on my keeping-a-closer-eye-on-portions routine. So far so good!

And some lovely, self-indulgent news....passed my third module on my masters degree, with merit! I'm likely now to come out with a merit over all, but I still have a shot at a distention if I write a blinder of an essay on my final module and a cracking dissertation. We'll see!

That sounds delicious Fav, wish I could find duck here!

That's awesome about your Masters Shark, I'm just starting one of my last classes (I have 3 left!), and can't wait to get it all done.

SharkSkinThing · 02/02/2016 08:12

But not unless I can spell distinction!!!

What are you studying fit?

OP posts:
Thefitfatty · 02/02/2016 11:36

Mass Communication and Public Relations. You?

FavadiCacao · 02/02/2016 15:30

Congratulations to you both, Shark and Fit. Not an easy task to study with children around, after a full day on your feet.

The coconut yogurt turned out very tasty: vanilla with a slight tang, lovely with some white and red currants. It was a drinking yogurt when it first came out but it set in the fridge (soft); next time I'll refrigerate the milk first so I can remove as much water as possible, hopefully that will make it thicker.

SharkSkinThing · 02/02/2016 17:27

Woah,fit! Powerful stuff!

Gender Studies for me.

OP posts:
Thefitfatty · 03/02/2016 06:13

I'm doing it online, so not so bad for me, I can work it around my schedule and I do a lot of it during my work day. :)

That sounds delicious Favadi.

FavadiCacao · 03/02/2016 09:43

You make it sound relaxed. :)

I did mine full-time and I really struggled to find enough time to sleep study, cook, clean and tend to dd -she had some interesting bedtime stories at times.

The yogurt is so delicious, I could eat the lot! So I'm using some to cook tandoori fish to keep me away from temptation.

SharkSkinThing · 03/02/2016 21:05

Hey everyone. Hope all are doing well. I'm shattered after a really hard spin class today but feeling confident about Friday's pending weigh in after smaller portions. We'll see!

I love the sound of the tandori fish, Fav. Is it quite simple? Xxx
