Just wanted to say hello and see if any other new starters wanted to buddy up for support and advice?

I've got 3 - 4 stone to lose, all gained AFTER having my DS who is now - god help me - 5. All down to long-term sleep deprivation and sugar reliance, and forming terrible habits. And wine to help me cope with the sleep deprivation,

Anyway, hoping to finally turn things around now that he's finally sleeping (sometimes until 5.30am!). Would love to chat to others who are finding that this WOE works for them.

xx

Hello everyone, and welcome Cariad - nice to meet you! Well done on losing 2 stone, that's incredible!

How has everyone got on over Christmas? I have been pretty lax, and my bottom has been feeling the burn, that's for sure! But, family departed today, so I am straight back on the low-carb plan, and will weigh on Monday 04.01.16, which is only a week away, but if I get on the scales now I fear I may lose the will to live!

Fingers crossed it will show 13.10, which was what I was before Xmas, then it's power through til 12 stone.

Hope to see you all very soon. xxxx

Hello all! I keep losing you off my active chats and then can't find you again!

I have well and truly fallen off the bandwagon over Christmas. The roasties got me! I am starting again this week though - we are just about to book a holiday somewhere gorgeous for March so I want to be all slim and lovely for then

Hope everyone had a good Christmas!

chris71 · 29/12/2015 17:05

This is motivating. I don't have any weight to lose but I love to stay in shape and I eat almost anything edible but i make sure I exercise and sleep enough.

SharkSkinThing · 29/12/2015 19:35

Welcome, chris. Smile

And hello again queen! Roasties are my downfall, too...cold, with mayo! A holiday booking sounds fab - where are you thinking?

Hi everyone. Ive done ok over the festive break. I find now that if I eat too much cheapie chocolate I feel really really bad and tired. So I didn't over indulge at all. Today I started back strictly and weighed myself and weight is ok. No shocks. Looking forward to losing more weight now.

Queen I second the question of "where are you thinking"?? It sounds good to have a goal doesn't it. I may be going to Australia this year to see my parents so that is motivating me to keep at it.

FavadiCacao · 30/12/2015 14:20

Welcome aboard Cariad and Chris.

Welcome back Queen.

I admire your determination, Shark and Always in starting straight back with New Year round the corner, I'm going to be back on the wagon from Monday.

I've been very good about resisting roasties but I have overdone Wine and lean protein and, not surprisingly, I feel somewhat bloated!
I have not been weighing but I've been keeping track of ketones via the ketostix: although it shows I'm still mildly in ketosis, the ketone levels have definetely dropped and it wouldn't surprise me to have regained some weight.

Wishing all a Very Happy New Year! :)

SharkSkinThing · 30/12/2015 19:43

Hello, always! What a lovely thing to look forward to in 2016! And well done of staying just about on track over Xmas.

fav - do you know, the impact eating carbs has had on my, um, bottom, has been astounding. So with that in mind, it's not been too hard getting back on track! Having said that, I do seem to have found a glass of red wine in my hand tonight.

Had a very busy day with DS, swimming, a terrifyingly windy walk along the beach then cinema (all with a with a friend of his, so double the stress), so pretty defenseless tonight!

Have booked my spin classes for next week and am going to train for a 5km swim next year (I did the 2km last year and loved it), plus I have a NYD swim planned with friends...heated lido so no big deal!

Hope everyone is well. xxx

What has happened to your bottom Shark. Im so curious now.

willpenrose · 31/12/2015 02:19

Hi All
Wow I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has strayed from the low carb path. I'm deep into cheapie chocolate territory now. And roasties with mayo. Mine went from roasties, into bubble and squeak and then a Spanish tortilla omelette. Turkey has done sandwiches, a beautiful curry, and then with the treacle baked ham (thanks Nigella), a great pie. (And at the request of the kids, not just a pastry top, but a pie that goes "all the way round". 'Soggy bottom', but still fun..) No danger of weight loss until after new year.

But when to hit the Fast days again? I think it's absolutely fine to Reload on carbs if you like them. But I'll use any 'bad' feeling to inspire a strong start for the next phase. Here's what I was thinking this morning: www.thedietgroove.com/life-in-the-diet-groove/2015/12/30/the-right-time-to-lose-the-most-lbs. May the 4th be with you.

Happy New Year, All
Will xx

AlwaysBeYourself · 31/12/2015 02:41

will Im doing paleo/lowish carb and Im on it forever so I didn't over indulge. I don't reload as I don't eat wheat, sugar, dairy etc. Christmas this year was one day and even then I didn't go overboard. I was very good and the scales smiled at me haha!!
But then I am on this way of eating for more than weight loss. I want to be the healthiest version of me that I can and that means trying to eat each day the best I can. I think after losing 2 stone this year there is just no way I ever want to put it on again.

willpenrose · 31/12/2015 11:20

always That's fabulous. If you've got a purpose behind what you eat then so much the better. That alone makes it easier to stick to. Good for you, I'm not there yet!

AlwaysBeYourself · 31/12/2015 13:16

will sorry, didn't mean to sound like st.always Blush. I'm not always perfect but this year I changed. I read loads on nutrition (new research) and learnt so much. I have been someone with disordered eating for most of my life and tried one diet after another. I stopped dieting about ten years ago and started mindful eating. This freed up my thought processes. Once I saw all food as just food and learnt to only eat when hungry and stop when full, I then moved on to eating the most nutritious foods I can. That led me too paleo and ditching dairy, wheat, etc and that was when my weight came off. Read your blog by the way. My earlier reply was sort of aimed at that really. You implied that you have been overeating for a month. It sounded like this reload system is a bit of a binge session? Correct me if I am wrong? Smile

FavadiCacao · 02/01/2016 13:22

Happy New Year!

Shark - The wind has been horrendous here too.

May the 4th be you also, Will! Grin

Always, I'm also very interested in nutrition, would you mind posting a few of your new research readings?

Yesterday was the first day of winter here (except for a couple of days back in November)! I found myself cutting the grass and weeding on Thursday and watching honey bees buzzing on my winter flowering shrubs; some of the more sheltered fruit trees still had leaves on, whilst the more exposed ones are in bud! Although I was expecting a low yield next year, due to the super abundance this year, I now suspect it's going to be ultra low.
As an aspiring permaculturist, I am always looking how achieve a perennial vegetable patch that doesn't require rotation and the harmful unnecessary soil disruption that digging brings... I'm pleasantly surprised that leeks produce side shoots the following year if left to go into flowering, and if cut leaving ~1-2 inch above ground they regrow through the same stem. :)

SharkSkinThing · 02/01/2016 17:38

always not to put people off their dinner, but I developed a terribly itchy bum a couple of years ago along with needing to poo a lot..several times a day. It was getting so bad that it would wake me up at night and I was also having to carry spare pants with me as I was losing control. Blush.

I thought it was just a post-baby thing, I had blood tests and internal examinations but no answers.

After less than a week of starting this diet, all symptoms vanished.

A few days of bread, pasta and crisps, it was back! So....doesn't take much to work out what the issue was all along!

Sorry about that folks!

Hello, fav!!! Xx

Happy New Year Everyone! Back at work and back to eating properly! Can't wait to hit the gym for the first time in two weeks. Hated not going, but I think my body needed the break.

Good to see I'm not the only one who fell off the wagon over Christmas ;) Sorry about your bum Shark I've been having similar issues.

Welcome to everyone whose joined!

SharkSkinThing · 03/01/2016 06:41

Thanks, fit! Also looking forward to my first spin in three weeks tomorrow....at least everyone there will be feeling just as unfit as me!

FavadiCacao · 03/01/2016 10:31

Sorry to hear about your issues, Shark and Fit. You have my deepest sympaties. Wheat is most evil!

I'm looking forward to exercising again, too. I'm just waiting for the house to be warmer as I don't want to tear another muscle.

AlwaysBeYourself · 03/01/2016 20:35

Was it IBS related Shark? I do hate the wind I get if I eat carbs but love the fact that I have no wind issues when I low carb.

O and Happy New Year everyone.

Thefitfatty · 04/01/2016 05:42

One day of exercise and low carb-ing and I already feel so much better. :)

CakeFail · 04/01/2016 08:22

Hello! Am I too late to join you? Starting low carb right now! Had a carb-y breakfast and felt sick.

I need to do something about my weight as I'm overweight officially now according to bmi. Would like to lose a stone as a half eventually.

Thefitfatty · 04/01/2016 10:38

Well I weighed myself today, even though I told myself I wouldn't, and I only gained about 3lbs over the holidays and to be fair to myself, most of that is probably water. So overall I'm pleased. However, I'm eager to see that scale drop below 80 kilos. My goal weight right now is 75 kilos (which is still 5 kilos overweight), once I get there I'll reassess and try and set something attainable.

Thefitfatty · 04/01/2016 10:40

Welcome CakeFail! Not to late at all to join. :)

CakeFail · 04/01/2016 11:11

Thanks thefit! Just had brunch of cheese and mushroom omelette. It all seems so yummy on day 1! Smile. Must try and keep motivation this time. The more I read, the more I'm convinced that paleo / lc is the way I should be eating.

CakeFail · 04/01/2016 11:17

I know cheese isn't paleo and that paleo isn't always lc but my plan is to lc for now (to lose some weight) then cut out dairy and slowly introduce a few more healthy carbs to eventually have a (hopefully sustainable) paleo diet... if that makes any sense at all! Grin

Thefitfatty · 04/01/2016 11:19

There's no way I could give up cheese. Low carb/high fat all the way for me!
