Hello! Day One Done - anyone want to join me?

SharkSkinThing · 29/09/2015 20:43

Just wanted to say hello and see if any other new starters wanted to buddy up for support and advice?

I've got 3 - 4 stone to lose, all gained AFTER having my DS who is now - god help me - 5. All down to long-term sleep deprivation and sugar reliance, and forming terrible habits. And wine to help me cope with the sleep deprivation,

Anyway, hoping to finally turn things around now that he's finally sleeping (sometimes until 5.30am!). Would love to chat to others who are finding that this WOE works for them.

xx

Fit, I replied at the bottom of previous loooong post... :)

DurhamDurham · 15/12/2015 10:41

Shark so sorry about your sad news, hope you're ok Flowers

I've been a bit carby at the weekend, we travelLed to Melton from Durham and were somewhat slowed down by the snow in the North East, had a family gathering at Scalford Hall where I ate all manner of carby treats and then travelLed back Sunday night .......and promptly broke down ten miles outside of Grantham. The exhaust fell off and we had to wait an hour for a breakdown service to arrive and pull the broken piece of exhaust and send us on our way.
The car is in the garage so fingers and toes are crossed that's not too expensive to repair.

When we eventually got home at about midnight I walked straight to to the kitchen and opened a family size bag of Kettle crisps and ate half a packet Blush

The good news is that the snow has gone for now, Id be happy to see it back in time for Christmas Day but don't want to see it until I've broken up for work.

Thefitfatty · 15/12/2015 10:48

Thanks Favi a google search resulted in lots of things saying its too high in fat and calories. But I had half a can last night and it was so yummy! (don't think I could do more then half a can though).

FavadiCacao · 15/12/2015 11:33

Oh no, Durham! It sounds you're struggling with getting adjusted to eating low carb. I remember it all too well along with the failure feeling that came with falling off the wagon!
I found it easier to reduce my carbs gradually: I first removed all flour products, then the rice and eventually the potatoes and I still lost 25kgs. The simpler rules meant I didn't feel guilty if I fell into a giant bag of crisps or a bag of chips and it kept me away from sweets. Now, a few years later, bread, cakes, cookies, chips in shops smell rancid to me (homemade don't) but unfortunately I could still eat endless amounts of crisps!

Fit, the only way I can eat an entire can of coconut milk is in the form of berry ice cream (blend 500g of frozen berries with coconut milk).

Thefitfatty · 15/12/2015 12:28

That sounds yum!

I don't suppose anyone else has had a problem with dry skin? I'm not sure if its the colder weather or the change in diet. :S

FavadiCacao · 15/12/2015 13:06

Yes, I found the skin got drier and spot free but it became normal when I switched to an old fashioned oil based soap bar SLS free and now it very rarily needs moisturisers.
Since going Primal, my hair has changed too. It went from virtually straight to curly, it's glossy and I no longer have split ends, despite visiting a hairdresser only once or twice a year.

SharkSkinThing · 15/12/2015 13:13

Uh oh durham, what a grim sounding evening. Maybe we should share these?! Flowers Fingers and toes crossed it doesn't cost a small fortune.

I would opened the wine, that's my default these days (who am I kidding, any day!).

fav - yummy sounding soup, I'm going to make a batch of this for Boxing Day. DP hates coconut so he can have a tin of pea and ham, his favourite!

devon how are the little ones?

fit, dry skin on your face or just generally? I get very dry skin on my hands in the winter, so always try and wear gloves to stop them cracking, and keep a tub of hand cream (any old is fine but I find unscented best) by the bed, and whack a load on at night. But I think mine is due to hormones being leached after pregnancy! xxx

Fav I've been v good overall but I think eating a few carbs made me want to eat more. That on top of a long, stressful day pushed me over the edge Grin
Also I hadn't been on here which does keep me on track......it's good to share and it does spur me to keep me going.

Having homemade meatballs and salad for lunch. Belly pork and veg for dinner. Forgot to have breakfast as I was later getting up than usual.

Have a good day everyone Smile

DurhamDurham · 15/12/2015 14:24

Shark we can share a virtual bottle today Wine Wine

SharkSkinThing · 15/12/2015 14:40

Durham cheers!

FavadiCacao · 15/12/2015 17:20

Yeah! After six weeks I have been able to resume one of my exercise routines. It was easier than I had anticipated but I guess my arms are going to kill me tomorrow. Grin
Wine? Yes, please! I'll put another bottle to chill: I hope a few others will join us in the cheers. :)

DurhamDurham · 15/12/2015 18:23

Fav the more the merrier.

I've had so much virtual wine today that I'm virtually sloshed WineGrinWineGrin

SharkSkinThing · 15/12/2015 18:32

My gym plans are wobbling....DP's train is running late...hoping he's back too late for me to go and I can drink and watch Masterchef!!! Bet he walks in just in time! X

OP posts:
FavadiCacao · 15/12/2015 18:51

I feel I might have to catch up on the WineXmas GrinWine

I love masterchef, so I find myself strangely cheering for a very delayed train: it just not the same on iplayer! :)

My flan/quiche tasted amazing but I had to force the cooking, so it was a bit split...

devoncreamtea · 15/12/2015 19:53

What's all this virtual Wine guzzling??! It's not Christmas yet you know!!

Small people bit better today. We watched the space launch this morning, fascinating and weird!

I have invited people round on sat...why??? It all seemed like a good idea last week, now I have to clean...

durham poor you on car front. Hope it isn't an arm and a leg.

fav you are like Wonder Woman, doing your painting and Xmas sorting and lovely cooking. In awe.

shark are you at the gym or on the wine?? ;)

fit could be diet, but maybe heat?

Am 9 11 now. Creeping lower slooooowly.

Thefitfatty · 16/12/2015 05:02

Dry skin seems to be all over. However given that it is a bit chillier here now and there's no humidity in the air (when it usually sits around 60%) I'm thinking that's a big factor. Will try and up my fat intake and get some good skin cream to combat.

Hope everyone enjoyed their virtual wine. :D

SharkSkinThing · 16/12/2015 08:28

I made it to the gym for body combat. Holy jesus crap, that was a tough class. But a sneaky peek on the scales this morning puts me a quarter of a pound off my pre-Xmas target! So shunning the wine was A Good Thing. Though, fav, I appreciate your solidarity!

devon I do that...invite people over/arrange to go out then spend the whole time leading up to it trying to find ways of getting out of it. Glad the kids are well...but perhaps not quite well enough, if you see what I'm getting at?!

The space launch was great - and he's a local lad, from Chichester (we live in Worthing, just up the coast).

How's the car, durham? And your virtual hangover?!

fit I find E45 really good (or it's cheaper equivalent, I get a big tub of that from Sainsburys, I'm not sure what you have over there). Happy to send you a tub if you need a supply!

Right...a 1,000 words on feminist standpoint theory awaits me....Xmas Confused

Thefitfatty · 16/12/2015 09:50

I'll look for it at Waitrose, Spinney's or Choithrams. :) Thanks for the tip.

FavadiCacao · 16/12/2015 13:22

As it happens, I didn't watch Mastrchef either!
I had to google Body Combat: it does look tough! How are your muscles today, shark? Mine are doing better than I thought they would and now wonder if it's true that it's easier to recover on a ketogenic diet.

Devon, Blush I have never be likened to Wonder woman before!:) I wish it were true but the reality is that, although the floors were really hard work, the painting is only touch ups. Ds used to be like Taz and I've learned to have magic sponges, paint brushes/rollers, wood/wall fillers, washable paints and a steam cleaner at hand. It's now second nature! Of course a good sense of humour, when faced with some of the most bizarre messes ds is capable of, helps! One of the funniest moments was when we came back from holiday to find that ds had glued the shower door shut with toothpaste! Or when I found him feeding chocolate to the radiator... Grin Grin Grin

Fit, If you can't find E45, coconut oil and avocado butter are just as rich and absorb super quickly: they are my saviours in harsh weather; shea butter is even richer but it takes longer to absorb.

SharkSkinThing · 16/12/2015 13:48

fit my muscles have survived! So it's a class called Insanity for me tonight. Apparently it's so intense it makes people feel sick. Lovely!

I'll never be able to afford a posh gym, but I'm enjoying the temporary perks!

fav your DS sounds like mine. He once emptied a 6 pinter of milk over the kitchen floor and declared, 'look, Mummy, a swimming pool!'.

Little -bugger- monkey.

Shark stonking (is that even a word?) virtual hangover today Grin

Also just to let you and Devon know that although the car is fixed and back on the road I can't tell you how much it cost for fear of making myself cry. Hey ho, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. Husband will have to wait until the new year for his present.....he gets a Durham County Council Cricket membership every year, he doesn't like surprises.

I've found that Aveeno is good for dry skin. My daughter gets it on prescription as she has eczema. It it soothing and doesn't feel greasy. Not sure how much it costs but I think it might be similar to E45 (which doesn't work as well for my daughter)

Thefitfatty · 17/12/2015 04:54

Good luck Shark you're more hard core then me! I never do classes!

I will try coconut oil Favi but can't do avocado as I'm deathly allergic.

Weighed myself today and I've lost a further 2 lbs for a grand total of 1 stone in 8 weeks! :)

No weighing till mid-January now, as there is no point over the next 2 weeks as far too much wine will be consumed at the PIL's.

FavadiCacao · 17/12/2015 08:54

Shark, I really, really hope your Ds isn't like mine used to be! He never slept and never stopped; Dh and I used to take two hour shifts at night time. When he started to sleep 4hrs (at age 8), it felt bliss.

Durham I loved Aveeno too, alongside Eucerin and Cetaphil. I have to say it feels wonderful to not having eczema and contact dermatirtis anymore. Does your daughter know what triggers it? I used to think all sorts of plants, soaps until I removed gluten and now I can even touch chamomile (and daisies) that used make my skin crack to the point of bleeding.

Fit Hopefully the removal gluten will diminish your allergic reactions as he did for me (although I have tried anything that made me very ill).
A little coconut oil goes a very long way.

FavadiCacao · 17/12/2015 08:57

Oops, sorry, Fit. Well done on your weight loss! Grin
