I've been lurking a bit and am quite fascinated by LCHF. I haven't quite got my head round the science yet though!

Is there a newbies guide somewhere? I could do with a list of good foods to help me kick start (not ready for bootcamp yet, but maybe in a few weeks).

Thanks v much in advance.

Oh, one more question

How do I use LCHF for weight loss, please?

Im starting this slowly too. Im doing lower/medium carb. I don't eat a lot of food and my weight remains stable but unless I cut down severely then I just don't lose. So I am wondering if I have some insulin resistance going on given that I am 50ish now and hormonally challenged. I will not be eating too much fat as that makes me unwell but will use it as and when. I like my scrambled eggs made with salty butter for instance.
What does LCHF mean please?

lisbapalea · 14/04/2015 14:18

LaiLoo LCHF means low carb high fat. From the little I know (and it is very little!), it's important to include the fat, so it shouldn't be skimped on, even if that feels counter-intuitive for a 'diet'.

I think the weight gain happens when fats are eaten with carbs, that's when things go pear shaped. Literally in my case.

Thanks. I can't eat too much fat though as I feel unwell but I cook with coconut oil and butter. I use olive oil for dressings. I'm doing med carb/paleo.Smile

Why does fat make you feel unwell? Is it physiological or psychological?

BIWI · 16/04/2015 09:38

Try reading "Escape the Diet Trap" by Dr John Briffa - it's really easy to read and gives a good explanation about low carb, and why fat is no longer the enemy.

BIWI sometimes in the past when I attempted low carb with high fat I had severe pains in the top of my stomach. Like severe spasms. Felt it could have been gallbladder. It's good for my IBS though. So I'm careful now. I'm on day six and doing good .

I want to keep doing this but I have disordered eating patterns so am trying to see it as a way of eating. I don't feel I can do bootcamp as the rules are most likely to make me overeat. Does that make sense?

LaiLoo · 16/04/2015 13:06

Don't feel I can go on the bootcamp threads as I am not strictly eating bootcamp but I could so do with support Blush

BIWI · 16/04/2015 13:45

Please - if you need support, come and join us. You will be very welcome!

You could always do Bootcamp Light if that suits you better? Or just continue with your own version of low carbing.

Really. Thank you so much. Thanks
