Starting low carbing again on Monday, what do I need to remember?

Just that really. Have done it before but a while ago, it really worked. Would like to lose half to one stone. Have got my Greek yogurt and eggs ready! Also to drink loads of water. Remind me what days the god awful headaches kick in?!

That actually doesn't sound that much plonky (although I obviously don't know actual portion sizes) but it is also totally normal to feel ravenous at first and you just have to go with it until your body adjusts and then your appetite will calm down.

I also had a glass of red wine and some 85% dark choc tonight...yum!

Plonkysaurus · 18/06/2014 12:54

They weren't the tiniest portion sizes, Panevino! But I've accepted it as normal and am indeed just going with it.

Had the tastiest lunch today - scrambled eggs, smoked mackerel, fried mushrooms and spinach. Delicious. And so pleased to have discovered almond milk, so now I can have a Brew.

panevino · 18/06/2014 13:11

Sorry if you've already said and I missed it but do you not eat dairy? I love a good glug of double cream in my coffee!!

Plonkysaurus · 18/06/2014 13:30

I do eat dairy - I had Greek yog with a slug of double cream for breakfast. But I drink a lot of tea, and I'd find LCing quite tough without tea! Not a fan of cream in my coffee, so I've just started taking coffee black.

Banging headache today.

calzone · 18/06/2014 20:32

B....yoghurt & berries

L....kebab, swede chips, asparagus

D....courgette, salmon&cream sauce with asparagus

Water
Bullet proof coffee

Confession time, only started this today..... Had so much food left over from weekend (ds birthday weekend) and my mum bought over loads of yummy treats so just couldn't throw it all away HmmHmm anyway started this morning.

Have had Greek yogurt with four strawberries and two babybels so far and a cup of tea. I really can't give up tea. I'm also still bf-ing ds2 who is 14 months old and seems to have gone off all food and is only really drinking milk at the mo. I always see it as reducing my carbs as much as possible rather than cutting out. Hard when you have children and they want macaroni cheese for lunch Shock

Planned lunch is cauliflower cheese.
Not sure about dinner for myself yet. Have to up my water intake today.

Wishing you all luck and sending you low carb vibes!

Yum yum! Just had my first experience of 'courgetti' and it was so good (and mega easy). Had it with a tomato, chilli & bacon sauce and a liberal sprinkling of parmesan. Will have an espresso with a splash of cream and some 85% dark choc in a bit.

Breakfast was a few leftover roasted baby potatoes, a slice of leerdamer and my standard coffee with cream.

Not sure about tea as I am taking boys to meet friends at a pub with softplay later and we will eat there, so will just do the best I can with what is on offer...maybe prawn cocktail or chicken wings and salad.

Need to remember and drink more water too. I had quite a sore head yesterday too, despite drinking quite a lot, but it was very hot and I was at work carting boxes about so could just have been that. Feeling pretty good otherwise though.

How is everyone else doing?

DiscoDancer · 20/06/2014 20:27

Carb flu here ??forgot about this bit. Feel like absolute shit.

OP posts:
calzone · 20/06/2014 22:05

Disco Dancer.....take some paracetamol and a huge drink of water.

B...yoghurt
L....mahoosive salad with flaked salmon (10p reduced in Waitrose!)
D....reduced stuffed mushrooms with salad
S....olives, feta

DiscoDancer · 21/06/2014 02:32

Can't sleep as my throat is so sore I can't swallow. Just had two paracetamol and some anaesthetic spray. Is this carb related?

How are we all doing now nearly at end of week one? Feels like I've been On it forever Grin

I have lost 5lb since Monday. SmileSmileSmile

Hope you feel better DD.

ChunkyPickle · 21/06/2014 08:34

I'm on this from Monday - especially since I experimented on the kids last week and discovered that they absolutely loved cauliflower rice.

I'm planning:

B: fake danish (nuked eggs mixed with mascarpone with berries) or berries and cream, or omelette
L: Boiled eggs, smoked salmon/deli meats, cheese, omelette
D: Curry/cauli-rice, steak and salad, kedgeree/cauli-rice, chicken and veg, tom yum soup - intrigued by Courgetti and will definitely be giving that a go!

I've done this before pre-kids, felt fantastic, and even mucked about making low-carb bread (won't bother with that this time). DP's in it with me, I just need to stay away from the carbs that I buy for the kids lunchboxes!

DiscoDancer · 21/06/2014 21:56

Tonsillitis. In so much pain I've cried. Plus side though is I've hardly eaten anything at all. Which I know is not good.

Plonkysaurus · 26/06/2014 13:03

Any better now Disco?

I've woken up feeling very off with incredibly sore sinuses. I really don't know if this is a coincidence as I've been stupid busy and could be run down, or if the low carb diet is too stressful on the body.

All academic as I've lost 6lbs in about 10 days without exercise, so I'm going to add a few more quality carbs back in.

Purplehonesty · 27/06/2014 22:11

Can I join in? Or has this thread upped and left now?

I'm new to this and started on Monday to try and lose the last half stone of baby weight and my wobbly stomach!

So far I've been eating
B Greek yoghurt with berries or scrambled eggs
L mackerel/tuna/salmon salad
D chicken/salmon with loads of veg.
S apple and cheese, nuts.

I didn't weight myself at the start of the week but my stomach is definitely flatter and I don't feel as hungry as I usually do.

Does my eating sound about right? I drink about five pints of water a day anyway.
Any hints and tips gratefully received. I have found a small square of g&b chocolate at night after dinner helps avoid wanting a dessert.
Here's hoping I can keep it up, I've never ever managed to stick to a diet or eating plan for this long before so I am surprised at myself!

Hattieboomboom · 28/06/2014 20:46

Hi Purple, I'm in roughly the same situation as you, got about half a stone I want to loose (although the 'baby' is now two..) I've been doing this since Wednesday and also finding it surprising easy as I've got a terrible track record of sticking to any kind of diet. Think it's because I'm enjoying the food and am seeing as some kind of experiment rather than as deprivation.

Last night I went out to a gorgeous tapas restaurant and had four delicious meat/egg/fish/veg dishes - no bread or the desert although i did have a massive vodka & soda and a prosecco/strawberry cocktail - I had to have a drink and was depriving myself of wine, bread and desert so I think I did ok! Not sure if any weight is coming off as yet however.... Good luck!

Purplehonesty · 28/06/2014 23:06

Hey hattie. My 'baby' also turned two this week....!
I've made it a week now and not cracked. As you say it does seem easier to stick to than other diets and apart from a few squares of g&b choc I haven't had any carby stuff.
I made a citrus beef curry tonight with coconut milk and had veg instead of rice with it. First time I've had curry without rice or chips.
Have read about carb flu kicking in next week which I am not looking forward to as its a busy week.
Will weight myself next week and see - so far I am at 8.5 stone and target is to get to 8 and rid of the tum.
Good luck to you Wink

Purplehonesty · 30/06/2014 09:12

Is today D day op? I had a good weekend and went to a kids party and avoided nearly all the food.
I had some grapes and a very small slice of the chocolate birthday cake (as I had made it and you never trust a baker who doesn't eat their own cake!)
I weighed myself this morning and I have lost 5lb in the first week. That's not bad going! Hoping to continue losing stomach wobble and from thighs. Waist is definitely more defined and stomach flatter than the start of the week.
The only cheat I had was that cake and a few squares of dark choc. So I'm pretty pleased with myself.
Would love to hear how everyone else is getting on!

Hattieboomboom · 01/07/2014 10:17

Hi Purple, same here - tomorrow will be a week and I've lost four pounds, can't believe it. I feel really good. The weight loss is despite (quite) a few nuts and one night of drinking. What are you missing the most? Are you doing any exercise? The best bits for me are being allowed to lick butter of a knife whenever I like and no wind whatsoever! I wanted to get to about 8st 10lbs, which is another five pounds away but I will definitely try and keep up this way of eating. Looking forward to when I can have a bowl of muesli in the morning and really missing fruit too.

alwaysrushing · 02/07/2014 10:14

Have done low carb before with good results, but have been putting it off cos love my tea and coffee but loathe it with cream_bleurgh-is this true you can use almond milk? And the greek yog-just plain I presume? After 40 odd years I am addicted to a sweet breakfast...Keep going girls-I'm joining today-a stone has sneakily crept on since last summer!!

Purplehonesty · 02/07/2014 17:41

Hey. I wasn't overly strict today and had a piece of my sons graduation cake.

Went on the scales this morning and now down 7lb. I'm not doing any exercise other than stomach crunches as I have arthritis in my knees which makes most things a bit tricky and I have two young dc so I can't get to the pool often.

The things I am missing most..probably pasta or rice. I had chicken with a cheesy leek sauce tonight with green veg and it was lovely though. Made the sauce with creme fraiche.

I'm not sure about milk - dont think it would kill you if you were cutting out the majority of other carbs. Yes plain Greek full fat yoghurt and sweeten it with raspberries mashed in. Takes a while to get used to tho.

We had a party today but I avoided the sandwiches and crisps type stuff I would usually load up with and had pepper and cucumber sticks with houmous then fresh fruit.
I haven't cut out fruit, just not eating a lot of it or bananas. Mainly berries and apples.

Good luck to you both keep updating

WeDONTneedanotherhero · 02/07/2014 18:41

Can I join in, i've got 6 stone to lose .

I'm planning to start in the morning.

Hattieboomboom · 02/07/2014 20:17

Purple, that's amazing! I think I've been eating too much. I'm not very good at eating proper meals - I tend to pick all day. Still only at four pounds. Don't feel very slim today either so I think I may not weigh myself just in case and be a bit stricter tomorrow. Two sick and non sleeping children make the cravings slightly harder to resist...

Hattieboomboom · 02/07/2014 20:23

Ps welcome the other two!

starshaker · 02/07/2014 20:28

Can I join too. Been doing this properly since saturday and have lost 5lbs already. Really enjoying it though
