Any way to increase fibre without going down the weetabix and prunes route (which is what I'd normally do!!) Am so bloated, uncomfy and bunged up!

Different suggestions I've heard:

  • Try drinking more and eating more fat
  • Soak some linseeds overnight and drink the water/slime in the morning...
  • Take some magnesium, there's some in all sorts of stomach upset powders and it's a laxative.

I think I've had some success with all of them in some point, but I don't really like linseed slime, and methods 1 and 3 aren't really working, so I'm considering some senna tablets to get me through the start of Bootcamp. I think with a bit of time your system does adapt, though.

Drink lots and lots of water

runningLou · 09/01/2014 17:32

Am drinking swimming pools!! Really struggling with constant trips to the loo!! Think I may use senna tablets too.

I had bad constipation when I first started to low carb. It doesn't happen now. In the short term I would indeed use a laxative tablet. And I agree, keeping both the fat AND the water up, seems to help the constipation not recur.

Eeeeergh, linseed slime!?

I just eat the linseed as they are on yoghurt or something, it does the job too!

willowisp · 10/01/2014 22:30

I love the linseed slime Grin

1 dessertspoon of golden cracked linseeds (omega 3's too), top up with boiling water & leave to soak about 5-10 mins. Knock back in a coupe of gulps, followed, in my case my coffee (& usually a poo) or at least 1/2 pt of liquid.

Marvellous stuff !

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 10/01/2014 22:35

Hot water and lemon.
Also coconut oil in strong black coffee.

Notawordfromtheladybird · 13/01/2014 14:19

flaxseed oil capsules as part of your diet supplements. or try regucol from holland & barrett - 2 teaspoons are less than 1g of carbs.

runningLou · 14/01/2014 13:49

I think I need to get down to Holland & Barrett and stock up on linseed, flaxseed and the rest - still really struggling despite senna tablets :( Barely 1lb lost after 10 days of low carb and I'm sure my metabolism slowing down is the culprit ...

Your metabolism shouldn't be slowing down, are you eating enough?

And no wonder you haven't list any weight if you haven't had a poo!

trashcanjunkie · 15/01/2014 00:13

I'm drinking two bottles of 1.5 litre bottles every day plus mint teas. I'm pooping either daily or every second or third day. Are you eating enough veg?

Eat some sugar free sweets. I know they are chemical rubbish but they have a dramatic effect on the bowels

runningLou · 15/01/2014 09:15

What kind of sugar-free sweets???
Am drinking lots of water and herbal teas (mint, liquorice, ginger etc). Also eating loads of veg and trying to pick particularly fibrous stuff e.g. asparagus, leeks, artichoke ...
Nothing doing :(
I used to rely on eating a lot of bran cereals, muesli, wholemeal bread and fruit, including dried fruit like figs and prunes, and have cut all this out to low carb, but to disastrous effect :(

Thank you! Have raided H&B for bran crispbreads, linseed (how much do you add to water and how long do you leave it? Does it have same effect if added to yoghurt?) And aloe vera colon cleanse so we'll see what works ...

Ok I know they're not low-carb but I just caved and ate a load of prunes ... This is really getting to me now :(
