Nope. Neither of them should! (That said, is your DH type 1 or type 2?)

I'm starting on Wednesday though, and doing 2 weeks extra bootcamp, because I feel like a hot mess.

I did this at the same time last year, and felt better than I ever have in my life; and it was SO easy! It all went to pot when I started a different regime combined with hardcore CV workouts, weirdly!

Whatever, I'm back and I'm not straying again.

ThermoLobster · 29/12/2013 21:17

I am in. Had a half hearted attempt before xmas, felt loads better, lost about a stone, totally lapsed over xmas, and feel dreadful, tired, bloated and fat! Can't seem to copy and paste on tablet. Pls can someone add me?

Me too please! Thanks BIWI! Been trying to maintain after last bootcamp and stay mainly on it (though lots of nuts, cheese and dark chocolate!) but will be good to get back on straight and narrow and see if I can shift last stone or so!

DementedMa - I started low carbing because of my diabetes (T2). Last Jan my HbA1C was 9.3 - they wanted me on Metformin, statins, bp meds etc - I didn't want any of that so I started low carbing and it was 5.8 in April, 5.3 in July, 5.3 in Nov. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

By the way, my Diabetes Nurse is hopeless, she backs the NHS guidelines to the hilt, but declares me her 'star' patient despite thinking low carbing is not the right way to eat - quite baffling. There is plenty of support for low carbing on the diabetes sites though.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 29/12/2013 22:44

Heggarty :( Stupid thing to ask anyone not actually pushing a baby out of their fanjo!!

ThermoLobster · 30/12/2013 08:06

Please can someone add me?

MrsHerculePoirot · 30/12/2013 08:27

dementedma I also low carb to control my type 2 diabetes. My ha1bc when I fell pregnant in August/September was 43 which was amazing! My cholesterol has lowered too and I've lost weight - my diabetes team were fairly supportive and just asked to monitor my bloods every three months initially and now back to my usual 9 monthly reviews.

dementedma - it's important that you discuss low carbing with your DH's medical team, especially if he is already taking medication for his diabetes.

There is a lot of controversy about low carbing and diabetes - even Diabetes UK doesn't fully endorse it as a WOE see here

And as ChippingIn has very eloquently reported over the last year, it can be quite difficult and disheartening if your medical team aren't supporting you - even when the results are positive!

Dr John Briffa, writer of "Escape the Diet Trap", which is really worth reading, has this to say about Diabetes UK's advice on nutrition.

OP posts:
Mary1972 · 30/12/2013 09:55

Also worth buying the US book Sugar Nation which is about diabetes and diet. I enjoyed it.

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 30/12/2013 10:07

Having read Volek and Phinney in the run up to starting bootcamp, I would suggest that Diabetes UK are hedging their bets regarding long term outcomes due to lack of good quality trials. I actually read that as a cautious endorsement.

The main issue they don't address is satiety and the psychology of dieting, which of course are two factors which make a diet workable in real life.

It's worth reading the eating academy blog as well.

(disclaimer - I have done no literature searches myself, I'm regurgitating the books! Grin )

Seri77 · 30/12/2013 10:24

Could you add me please? On ipad and can't work out how to copy the list.

I've got Briffa to read, will have groceries delivered to avoid temptation (came home with Danish pastry and ice cream today Shock) and Im going to meal plan ready for 13 Jan.

Fortunately my husband is very supportive and a big fan of meat/fish and vegetables. Could do with some soup recipes. I love soup but always seem to make it with sweet potatoes or pumpkin.

After a December of boozy carby twatdom, I am sooooooooooo ready for bootcamp. Blush I'm going to namechange and then will add myself to the list. Great to see lots of familiar names. [waves] Smile

LittleMissDisorganized · 30/12/2013 13:54

Me too please. I am disabled, more so by surgery in November and I am STILL in plaster and wheelchair bound. I have put on loads of weight largely due to not being able to eat right for my immobility (ie. eat less since I move less).
I am waiting to start til I can at least walk, even if it's in a walking cast, because immobility and being housebound and not being in control of the cooking = impossible.
I have DH's support but he's not joining in. No-one else I know will go for this but I have been devouring reading about it and I'm ready. Hoping my cast is off on the 8th so I'll be ready for the 13th. Thank you for this, really am ready.
I'm a baker, for others mostly - always been my downfall when trying to lose weight in the past.

Big essay, but I'm in:

Im going to re-read Briffa I think, I found it a real eye-opener last time, a re-fresh wont do any harm.

Ive started today - ive been off the wagon for a little while, and tbh i've had enough of feeling this naff. I KNOW low-carbing works wonders for me, carb creep+xmas shouldnt be an excuse!

MaryzBoychildCheeszuzCrizpz · 30/12/2013 16:16

Hellooooo everyone.

January 13th, I see. Does that mean I need to eat like a horse for the next two weeks, so that I can lose lots of lots of lovely weight when I start?

Or have I missed the point?

[arf]

I'm in, btw.

MaryzBoychildCheeszuzCrizpz · 30/12/2013 16:17

Oh, go on with the alphabetising, LittleMiss, then I'll shove myself in the middle somewhere Grin
