I've added you Tigglette.

Yama · 01/01/2014 18:57

I did the Bootcamp last January, reached my ideal weight of 9 stone 8lbs pretty quickly and then maintained for the rest of the year.

Of course Christmas came and it really is too tricky so stay off the booze and chocolatey treats. Especially when there is a Bootcamp coming up. Wink

I'm going to give it another whirl

I really struggle with drinking enough water, so I am going to fill up a 2L bottle at the beginning of the day to ensure I reach at least that much. I like it at room temp anyway.

Am planning a gradual retreat from the carbs, starting tomorrow with all refined sugar and wheat, fruit three days later, carby veg three days after that. I just can't face doing it all at once, but I should be well on track by the 13th.

Yama · 01/01/2014 19:52

Yes, Humphrey - I can't stand too cold water. I tend to down a pint, refill the glass and leave it on the window sill for the next time I swing past.

I'm really excited ethlinn :o

ethlinn · 01/01/2014 20:11

So am I. Mainly because I am soooo fat. And fed up with not fitting in any of my clothes.

DottiestDoris · 01/01/2014 20:17

May I join too please? Would you please copy and paste me-am on phone and can't (I think). Am ebf like Pseudo, so will be sure to read the responses to her questions. So excited my fat bits are wobbling! Smile

ChubbyLittleLoser · 01/01/2014 20:34

I'm going to start tomorrow otherwise I never will and I'm actually scared about this 'carb flu' I've been told about!

Can someone tell me if my meal plan for tomorrow is ok, just want to make sure I'm on the right line.

B: couple of spoonfuls of total yoghurt and some celery with cream cheese (not a big breakfast eater so this is all I can manage)
L: Leafy egg salad and mayonnaise
D: Spinach and ricotta aubergine with broccoli, green beans and cauliflower

I have some celery, cucumber sticks and babybells for snacks, is this any good?

PseudoBadger · 01/01/2014 21:44

BIWI you gave me great advice about low carb whilst breastfeeding a fairly small baby (12 weeks). However I forgot that I'm still on these stupid blood pressure pills for pregnancy induced hypertension (Labetalol). Do you (or anyone else) know if this is likely to be an issue? I appreciate advice isn't a replacement for medical advice...

ethlinn · 01/01/2014 22:15

PseudoBadger, I am not an expert at all but afaik low carb diet should help to lower your blood pressure so it's worth to keep an eye on it and speak to your gp about adjusting medication too.

BIWI · 01/01/2014 22:30

Yes, it could well be an issue, PsuedoBadger, given that low carbing is likely to bring down your blood pressure. You need to talk to your GP before starting.

OP posts:
PseudoBadger · 01/01/2014 22:59

Thanks, she's weaning me off them but it's taking forever! Hopefully she'll be supportive and we can work with dosages.

FourArms · 01/01/2014 23:15

Thanks for guidance re nuts BIWI :)

nutellaontoast · 02/01/2014 00:15

Regarding the labetalol personally I'd speak to the GP but also monitor your own BP and see them if you find it's trending far enough downwards that you wish to reduce your dose again. I was quite proactive on that one which was useful even though I could happily burn the damn machine now

bettybigballs · 02/01/2014 06:12

I'll be in too, didn't do so well on last boot camp for various reasons. Have been semi low for a few months but need discipline of bootcamp fora few weeks.

Mary1972 · 02/01/2014 09:42

Chubby, hard for me to say if that is okay as I am a total carnivore! It would certainly not fill me up.
B: couple of spoonfuls of total yoghurt and some celery with cream cheese (not a big breakfast eater so this is all I can manage)
Sounds compliant with this way of eating as at least you are having something. I would typically have 3 eggs and 4 slices of bacon.

L: Leafy egg salad and mayonnaise
As log as you have enough eggs. Mayonnaise is often full of additives and sugar so I think it's best to ditch that unless you are making it yourself and know what is in it. I would be more likely to have a chickn leg with loads of fatty skin and veg.

D: Spinach and ricotta aubergine with broccoli, green beans and cauliflower
Not sure about the green beans. i eat lots of spinach, brocoli is good. It is basically good fats which fill you up so make sure you are piling that on which is what helps people stick to these ways of eating. I am not BIWI but I think high good fats, medium protein and low carb is often a good way to go. That is low carb not no carb.

I suspect on the basis of what you set out I eat about 3x your number of calories!

Welcome everyone!

Chubby (you will have to change that name Grin) you menu looks OK, although it is quite heavy on dairy. Are you a vegetarian? Just be aware that dairy can stall people so you may need to keep an eye on that. And re mayonnaise, home-made is obviously better, but I know we don't all have time for that. Just check the carbs on the label and take those into account.

And just to pick up on a point that Mary has made - this is a low carb diet not a no carb diet! We are aiming to get the majority of our carbs from vegetables and salad, instead of things like bread, pasta and rice. You should be making sure that you eating veg/salad with at least 2 out of your 3 meals a day (because you also should be eating three meals a day)
