Week 10 - Autumn Low Carb Bootcamp - Our Last Week!

BIWI · 11/11/2013 07:31

Morning everyone.

I hope you had a good week last week, and that your weigh-in today shows the benefit!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

We still have this one last week to go, so stick with it and see if you can drop a little more before we have our final Bootcamp weigh-in next week.

I know that this is American/refers to American ingredients/brands, but this is really interesting piece on 'winter' dry skin Staying well hydrated is obviously one way to combat dry skin, but other interesting ideas as well.

Hello! Found you... I am managing to be a little better now as I was just stuffing my face tbh. I am definitely eating lower carb than first time around, but still looking forward to getting back to it proper afterwards!

Well done all you losers!

colette · 14/11/2013 08:14

Berylstreep
How about slinking back in Wink I think I am only 0.5 lb down
I haven't got properly back on track since halloween
but am really going for it now , I will keep going until mid Dec .

HumphreyCobbler · 14/11/2013 09:10

Hello everyone
I weighed myself for the first time since having the baby, having shrunk in size considerably since then, only to find out I still have two stone to lose. I am pretty gutted tbh. It feels like a massive mountain to climb. I probably feel so daunted due to lack of sleep.

I know I can do it on this woe but I was cutting myself some slack by eating nuts but I think I will now need to try to get into proper ketosis. Hopefully my blood sugars being so stable will help me to get through the sleepless nights!

I am also feeling guilty because my five year old dd caught me crying over my weight. I don't want her to pick up my neurosis Sad I have never been negative about my weight in front of her before.

QueenQueenie · 14/11/2013 11:15

Oh Humphrey. Please be kinder to yourself about this. You've just had a BABY! Which after all is about the most amazing thing you could reasonably ask your body to do, ever. Are you breastfeeding? If so then that and having enough energy to enjoy these early stages is by miles the most important thing. Many of us are in this for the long haul. If it takes a little longer to get to where you'd ultimately like to be re weight / shape it's not such a big deal in the overall scheme of things... and we'll all be hear to listen and chat. Have a hug.

sybilfaulty · 14/11/2013 12:29

Huge hugs, humph. I think you are only 6 weeks port partum so very early days and you body probably still has water and fluid to shed before you get back to your real weight IYSWIM. If you are feeding you will lose weight more quickly and whether you feed or not your are going to lose healthily and keep it off. I was massive after my babies and a lot of it did go with not too much effort thereafter.

I think that this WOE does reinforce a healthy eating message to children as we can eat food they recognise which is natural and not full of additives and nasties. My girls are 6 and 8 and know I don't each much bread or pasta etc as I feel healthier eating veg, butter, dressing etc. far worse IMO to eat Ww fake food or never eat the same as then as you have to have "diet" food. I am sure your dd will not be damaged by your being upset about your body. She will get a message that you want to be healthier rather than just slimmer far more often so please don't worry too much.

Chin up, lovely.

WillieWaggledagger · 14/11/2013 13:20

poor humph - as others say please don't be so hard on yourself. your body has just done an amazing thing and needs to recover... it's still in flux

you've said previously i think (apologies if i misquote) that weighing doesn't work very well for you, so maybe keep that in mind and just keep on focusing on the other benefits - mood, bloating, concentration etc

HumphreyCobbler · 14/11/2013 13:53

thanks for the words of support, they are very much appreciated

i do feel more positive, dh was working from home and took the baby so I could get some sleep.

You are all right, i will remember what you say! I think being over weight makes me panic a bit as i struggled with my weight/yo yo dieting for such a long time until i found the bootcamp threads.

MrsHerculePoirot · 14/11/2013 22:20

humph you know it is the hormones don't you?!? Making your cry and overthink the weight thing, hormones and tiredness = double trouble and just make it worse. You are doing brilliantly, keep the nuts as you are breast feeding (I think) and take your time. Remember it took nine months to go on etc... Big hugs! Out of interest how is your age gap - mine will be 4 and a half years which sound similar to you - does your DD like helping?

HumphreyCobbler · 14/11/2013 22:39

thanks MrsHP - it IS the hormones. I appreciate the hugs

DD is five and DS is six and they absolutely adore the baby - I am pretty sure they think of him as a kind of super pet Grin

LilyAmaryllis · 14/11/2013 23:04

Humph please don't worry, the first stone will come off pound by pound and then you will feel that you are nearly there anyway, it won't be so daunting. As everyone says, its probably best not to focus on the numbers for now anyway, you have to concentrate on looking after yourself through all the lack of sleep and hormones and your body responding to these huge changes. And CONGRATULATIONS I bet your super pet is gorgeous.

sybilfaulty · 14/11/2013 23:09

Humph, that is lovely - a super pet! My girls were 3.5 and 1.5 when DS was born. That took some getting used to for them. DD2 was fine in the hospital but once home she was distinctly unhappy about the new fellow for many months thereafter. After 3 kids my muscles were a bit shot and I did look quite preg for a few months after. A bit of gentle swimming helped that. Your DS2 is still so wee. Be kind to yourself and don't spend his little months berating yourself about your weight. You are doing something. You know it works. It never is immediate (sadly!) but LC weight loss is usually a keeper.

Take care and talk soon.

LilyAmaryllis · 14/11/2013 23:15

I think the couple of pounds I put on last week is inching off. (mixing my measurements there). Though I probably shouldn't speak too soon and should wait to see what the scales say.

I've been thinking obsessing about life after bootcamp and specifically about toast. Ie, could I tell myself that one night a week I could have toast, probably the thing I miss most. This is in the context of maintaining. I can't decide whether that would be a slippery slope - it would just make me crave carbs and make me way more likely to fall off the wagon. I thought to myself "I haven't had bread for 6 months" but realised its not true, on 2 occasions I had to eat sandwiches at a work event. And I ate those sandwiches and got straight back on the wagon without an issue.

I know I'm rambling here but feel you are all likely to understand why I'm thinking hard about such a small issue!

LilyAmaryllis · 14/11/2013 23:17

And I REALLY don't want to grow out of my new clothes (especially as the old ones are off to jumble this weekend) so maybe I had better just say NO to future 1-toast-a-week!

What does the MN jury think?

WillieWaggledagger · 15/11/2013 08:01

lily it could work for you, or it might not, it's difficult to say because only you know your physical and mental reactions

at least you know in the past you have successfully gone off-plan and then back on again

sorry, it's not very helpful, but it's the whole 'your mileage may vary' thing

captainmummy · 15/11/2013 08:21

Lily - I had toast at MIL on saturday, first for about 1.5 years. It was great, homemade marmelade as well, but I was dreading the sugar crash 2 hours later.
Sure enough...

AuntieMaggie · 15/11/2013 08:38

Lily in my experience carbs make you hungrier and more likely to eat more carbs so if you do oerhaps better to have that slice of toast late eve so you don't end up eating carbs for the rest of the day (or crying because you really crave more carbs and you know its your own fault... ahem)

Saying that I had a sandwich yesterday at a work thing and it had brie in it... failed on the lc and pregnancy front :( I was in a meeting where I felt really exposed cos senior managers were asking me to help them

sybilfaulty · 15/11/2013 11:18

Maggie, I didn't find out with DD1 that I was pregnant til about 8 weeks for various reasons, by which time I'd had brie, stilton, liver, gallons of booze etc. You will be fine, honestly.

AuntieMaggie · 15/11/2013 12:15

I hope so Sybil - you should have seen the state of me the Friday night before I found out I was pregnant Blush

LilyAmaryllis · 15/11/2013 13:18

Thank you Captain and Maggie I think you are both so so right. Eating carbs does make you hungrier... so its safer to go off piste last thing. I used to have disastrous evenings of scoffing (biscuits, toast etc) so even that might be too dangerous for me (my particular mileage, as Willie says). Maybe this plan won't happen!

I enjoyed the terrible wrongness of the brie sandwich! (I don't think it will have done any harm at all)

I think maybe our 3 big losers should share something about what they do that makes it work so well!! (please?)

I'm sitting here eating an unusual lunch of mushrooms fried up with philadelphia stirred in, served on a bed of lettuce & dressing. Unusual but quite yummy in its own way.

googoogoggles · 15/11/2013 13:34

oh Lily know just where you're at. I had that slip-up last week (not really a massive one initially, but then too many nuts, then gin, a glass of wine –then headfirst into left-over brownies) Had the inevitable crash and have been dealing with trying to get back on low-carb wagon ever since. I find it doesn't take much for me, sadly, to go off track. When I'm in the zone, I can ignore the smell of toast/marmalade in the mornings (DH's usual breakfast) but when I've had a slip-up, it's so hard...
Only you can say if you can manage one odd piece of toast and then safely ignore for a while (!) Not sure I could at this point in time!

Now on my third day being back on low-carb and have been finding it really hard going (did fine Monday/Tuesday until around 9pm then too tired/wound up about RL stuff I didn't manage to beat the sugary voices drifting from the cupboard...)
Really trying to stay focussed so I get in the zone again over the weekend and next week. Do love this WOE when I've got those pesky cravings under control! Murder otherwise... Sorry, sound whiney. Going to buy some cream on way home and do some celeriac slices to go with cottage pie base (spuds for others)
and I will stay off the gin and I will stay off the gin and I will stay off the gin...

BIWI · 15/11/2013 15:59

If it makes you feel any better, Lily, if you were to follow Dr Charles Clark's way of low carving (The new High protein Diet), he allows 1 slice of wholemeal toast a day. His daily carb allowance is around 40-60g.

However, I don't think you'd be able to have jam/marmalade on it - that would probably tip things way over the edge! But butter, butter and Marmite or peanut butters would all be possibilities.
