Morning everyone.

I hope you had a good week last week, and that your weigh-in today shows the benefit!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

We still have this one last week to go, so stick with it and see if you can drop a little more before we have our final Bootcamp weigh-in next week.

I know that this is American/refers to American ingredients/brands, but this is really interesting piece on 'winter' dry skin Staying well hydrated is obviously one way to combat dry skin, but other interesting ideas as well.

Just wanted to pop in (hope this is the right thread) to show my face as I was on previous boot camp threads and really enjoyed it all. I'm off the wagon for a while as currently 30 weeks pregnant, so I shall hopefully come back when my little one has arrived and get back on it :) I'm wondering now if I shouldve low carbed throughout but I really wasn't sure.

God knows I'll need and appreciate your help and support then, I'm going steady with the weight gain as I can but finding my shape difficult to deal with and I imagine these last weeks will be the worst ones. Anyway I'll look forward to coming back and getting back on that spreadsheet!

Whoops Blush you were quite right Lily! Today is the final weigh-in.

here is the final Bootcamp thread

We will carry on a chat thread, though, so there is still plenty of ongoing support.

Thanks Lily - I like soup especially spicy soup (just too lazy to make it...)

AuntieMaggie how do you feel about soup? Sometimes there are soup stalls at stations? Ultimately you have got to eat - so anything you can stomach, carbs or no carbs I'd say! (or pop out to a greasy spoon at lunchtime and have an all-day breakfast without the toast?

I suppose this is sort of officially the last day of bootcamp? Not that I will be eating any differently tomorrow! But its good to celebrate that I tried on a size 14 dress today and my DH's eyes popped out of his head! Hooray and thank you all for your support - obviously especially BIWI and Willie.

maggie I think you have to eat what you fancy to some extent - especially in the first trimester. My general day is toast and poached egg(s) for breakfast, salad with a sandwich filling (eg tuna mayo, coronation chicken, chicken bacon sweet corn may etc...) but I have only a little crunchy little gem lettuce then cucumber, pepper and tomatoes. I am snacking on nuts mostly, but also small packs of pretzels and some fruit (two pieces max in one day), coleslaw rolled in cheese or salami. Some days if I am very hungry I will have a sandwich for lunch instead, or toast and marmite as a snack, depends on my blood sugars and tiredness and hunger. Dinners tend to be meats and veg, although often in sauces more than I would usually do eg tomato based sauces, or things with balsamic that I have avoided when being strict. Depending on the carbs I will have a small amount of sweet potato or rice if needed.

From about week 6-10 I ate loads, and all rubbish. I have tried to be more sensible and listen to my body, my problem is that now I am having to inject again I end up with hypos and therefore have to eat things to bring my blood sugar back up and stabilise it again. My weight is going to be monitored closely and assessed again at 25 weeks so I am trying to be sensible but I find it so hard with the carbs, they are addictive, I want more and more of them and they never fill me up for very long!!!

A pizza fell into my mouth last night and I've regretted it all morning. It seems I can tolerate the odd slice of bread but a pizza I can not - couldn't sleep and had a bad stomach.

I'm trying to stick to this woe because I know its good for my blood sugar levels. However as I have gone right off salad I'm not sure how I am going to cope. I have another big meeting tomorrow and I usually stop at m&s at the train station and pick up some stuff but I can't think of anything that I could stomach.

Hi Sybil! Yes, feel much more rested now. And a day pretty much all on my own yesterday was fab. I never got out of my onesie all day, and spent the time on the laptop!

It has been a tiring week, but although a lot of that was due to the work, it was also mainly to do with the amount of travelling and, it has to be said, it's pretty stressful starting a new role - I'm so aware that I have to prove myself at the moment.

Anyway, I'm going to the gym shortly, to see my personal trainer, and then will do some work this afternoon so that I can get a bit ahead of myself for tomorrow.

The main thing is its impact on my MN/FB habit!

Hello BIWI. hope you are getting some rest after your hectic week.

My dd1 suffers with the fruit. It's constantly peddled at school as a healthy snack and whilst its better than a cake it's not completely benign.

My dd1 won't eat any though she will eat vegetables. Lots of other children have teased her and said she's not healthy as she doesn't eat fruit at playtime. I've told her to say that she eats lots of veg and she doesn't need to snack as she's still full from breakfast!

My muffin top is reducing! Still visible but getting smaller. It seems to be booze related alas. I had to do some work yesterday which meant hardly any booze Friday night and is had very little in the week. Result - visibly smaller tummy.

Doesn't bode well for festive season though.

Pregnant ladies. You are amazing. I felt so sick that only hula hoops and tonic water kept me going. You are growing a baby though, so do take it easy and don't beat yourself up if you succumb to a carb craving.

Glad you're feeling more positive, Humph!

And yes to the fruit thing. It's a real heresy to tell people that fruit isn't really that healthy.

Does anyone find they keep being offered fruit? When I decline cake or biscuits people remember that I am on a diet and cast around for something 'healthy' to offer me and it is always fruit! Eating fruit is seen as a necessity for healthy eating in society as a whole, it is the one thing people seem to boggle at when asking about this WOE.

MrsHP and AuntieMaggie - you are doing so well to stick to it through pregnancy! I fell at the first morning sickness hurdle.

BIWI your new job sounds like full-on week after full-on week. Yes, really annoying that we can't just walk into any shop/cafe and find something suitable (or even have a nice range of choices!).

hello

have been feeling much more positive and back on the even keel that this woe generally generates for me. Thanks again for the lovely support everyone.

Cooked pork osso bucco in slow cooker for lunch. This is a brilliant cut, isn't it? I have not cooked it before. Very tasty and cheap.

Yes I think that's a good idea. I don't normally undercook the aubergine, because I have a particular hatred for undercooked aubergine! But didn't do a great job tonight for some reason.

I tend to ignore the recipe and "roast" the slices in the oven with olive oil drizzled (generously) on top, Seems to work as they cook in the time the rest takes to make before assembling and sticking back in the oven...

Report
BIWI · 16/11/2013 18:44

Make sure you cook your aubergine so that it's tender before you assemble the moussaka - mine were still a bit tough, and they didn't cook enough during the cooking time, even though it's 45 minutes in the oven.

Apart from that, it was lovely!

Morning all!

I've been away most of this week, working in a place where there was nothing other than carbs to eat. I have, therefore, been a totally carby twat! I've also been sleeping really badly and it's been a very stressful week for one reason or another, so not exactly a great combination for encouraging weight loss. Thankfully it hasn't affected my IBS, and I'm glad to be home now, and eating 'my' food.

Tonight I'm looking forward to making the IPD moussaka. Next week at work is going to be a pretty full-on week, and so I'm going to make sure I've got stuff to take to work to eat, as although I have a wide range of shops/food places near me, the choices available to me as a low carber are pretty limited, and I'm getting bored of only having cold foods - meat/cheese and salad. It really pisses me off that every ready meal or soup is just so high in carbs. Does everything have to come with pasta/rice/noodles or mash?!

We do have a microwave at work, so I can take stuff from home and have something hot, which will be much better.

And speaking of microwaveable low carb foods, here's an interesting-sounding breakfast recipe

Hope you all have a lovely weekend. The sun is shining and the sky is a lovely deep blue here. I may even go for a run later. Or I may not ...

toomuch hope you feel better soon.

lily I have found many people who do 5:2 end up realising a little what a waste things like bread, pasta, rice etc actually are. I have introduced some of them to cauliflower rice, courgette ribbons etc... and they have loved it. Just a shame they can't cover it in a lovely buttery creamy sauce with some lovely red meat!!!!

Having had an incredibly good week and lost such a lot, I continued to be very strict with myself. Until last Friday when foodie friends came for the weekend. I didn't weigh myself at the start of the week and when I did was quite shocked. But it's all come back off over the week. Back to my one day, one meal at a time philosophy. And I've had a horrendous week with 3 parents' evenings and after school training. Finishing with a heavy cold. Yuck.

Ooo I feel very warned off the toast, a good idea! I think I'll go back to an earlier plan I had of some toast being my christmas treat. Ie - ONCE, not once a week! Especially as I DON'T go to a personal trainer.

I've eaten way too many nuts today. They're quite addictive too!

A friend told me today she's started 5:2. I did think good for you for taking it on... but... secretly of course I thought: "you'd be so much more sensible to low-carb". I don't want to preach to her especially when she's just getting her head round the 5:2. Its surely harder to keep up over a long time though?

Lily I occasionally allow myself a slice of toast with peanut butter on. I go to a personal trainer once a week and have had a couple of occasions when I have gone quite light-headed on my usual scrambled eggs, etc so I now have either 1 slice toast with peanut butter or scrambled egg on or cream cheese pancake, yoghurt, berries, etc. It doesn't affect me badly but I think it is either because I burn it off or because I come home and have a good protein-y meal that fills me up.

Pregnant ladies - my DCs are 25 and 23. When I was pregnant they hadn't invented all these rules so we just ate whatever we fancied and we all survived so try not to worry about foods too much
