Low-carb diets

Anna Richardson- is this low carb?

Hi,
I started AR's body blitz diet two and a half weeks ago and I am really enjoying it. I lost weight on WW before but counting points/calories really depressed me and I can't do it long term.

My question is:

Is this diet low-carb and is this why it works? She has 5 rules:

  1. No sugar
  2. No wheat
  3. No alcohol
  4. Limited dairy
  5. No carbs after 6pm

So, for example, today I had porridge with nuts for breakfast, mixed baby salad leaves with tomatoes, olives, prosciutto and avo, a ryvita with humous and then I will have bolognese with shredded cabbage instead of pasta.

Is this low carbing? If not, can I do it and still get the benefits others on the bootcamp are getting? I am losing weight fairly quickly, I am enjoying it and I know I can sustain it long term.

Cheers

Hi, can I join too please. I have tried the bootcamp low carb thread and as much as I want to not eat wheat and rubbish, going low low low carb just isn't sustainable long term. This however looks great. I tend to eat lowish carb but with not much of a plan. Its such a healthy way to eat too. Smile

peachypips can you eat Agave nectar? I haven't got the book yet, sorry. What other sweetners can you eat ie honey or maple? I don't touch artificial sweetners with a barge pole. Is there somewhere I can find more info about the woe before the book arrives? Sorry, so many questions. Smile

Yay! More in the quiche! Never been part of a good old MN quiche before. If you fancy posting your stats then feel free. Ours are up-thread somewhere. Ledkr I have found it has broken some habits for me too- esp sugar and bread cravings.
As far as shopping goes I have been buying cheap bits from Aldi- porridge oats, nuts and sultanas for breakfast, salad, avo and some kind of protein for lunch (smoked salmon, cold Italian meats etc) and for tea I have used some recipes from the book and also cooked normal things for the family with no carbs for me. I did a roast today with no potatoes or stuffing for me, and had mashed swede. Also do shepherd's pie with mashed squash or swede instead of potato.
Shredded cabbage or cauliflower rice are good with spag Bol or curry.
Molly - I can't completely low carb either- this seems to be a more sustainable way of eating for me. I don't feel like I am dieting really. Agave nectar is not allowed on the blitz part of the diet, but now I have added a few treats I have a small spoonful on my fruit and a spoon of fat free natural yoghurt. I just didn't want to wreck my blood sugar.
A good treat if you are desperate for something sweet is a handful of nuts and raisins. As long as you don't go mad they fulfill my craving!

Yes, what peachy said - not on the first two weeks (although weirdly, she does let you drink diet fizzy drinks if you are the sort of person that this would be a make or break for... Ie, she's keen to help you succeed if that's what it takes).

Yesterday was a disaster. Grin but I have to say - the cake was grim. I chewed my way through it, as dd2 was v excited etc, but there's well over half of it left, and I won't be having any more. And this morning I feel bloated and headachey, and sinusy... Which may be my imagination, but I don't care - if it works as impetus, I'll take it.

I've bought a spaghetti squash. I have literally no idea what to do with it, but I'm told it can work as a pasta replacement too... So I'll let you know!!

I moved furniture all day yesterday (flooring starts tomorrow) and have LOADS of stuff to do today . This is a Good Thing, as it will keep me out of the cupboard. Intend to make sure I'm snacking though (allowed!) as I don't want to leave it until I'm starving and then stuff myself.

When I did it last time I found a handful of fruit and nuts really quashed my cake cravings.

I am back! Feeling dispondant and need a kick up the arse. Eaten masses of nuts today- think I need to cut back on them as I think they are stalling my loss. :-(

Bacon and poached egg salad tonight with balsamic vinegar. Yum. I cooked everyone else pasta, so am feeling reasonably virtuous. There was quite a lot of bacon, but in my defence it was all lean... Honest...

I find it fine if I have one of my snacks at 4. So today I had lettuce, tomatoes, a 1/4 of an avo, two rashers of bacon with fat cut off, one boiled egg and balsamic on top. Then at four ill have a ryvita with marmite.

Yep, you can have rice at lunch. I occasionally have California rolls if I'm out and it's a choice between sushi or other fast food....

I'm struggling with lunches and when I'm back at work next week it will be worse as lunch has to last until 6 so I thought I might make risotto or a rice salad.
I don't struggle with dinner, I went to Iceland and bought lots if frozen veg so that I can still do it even if too busy to prepare fresh veg.
The test will be if I do bolegneise or curry. Will struggle not to have rice or pasta.
I'm also unsure about pulses and beans?
Anyone explain?
I'm doing it from memory as I can t get the book from the library due to my fine Hmm have to wait till pay day

With bolognese I have shredded stir-fried cabbage, and with curry I have roasted veg. I think we can have pulses and beans. There are chickpeas in the lamb tagine thing. Probably need to go easy though!
Ryvita with houmous for lunch?
I have just broken all five rules. Eek. No way I'm going to lose this week!

Lol at breaking all five rules!!! It must have been worth it ;-)

I'm being reasonably sensible - I did meet a friend for lunch and had goats cheese on my chicken and fig salad (and I nicked a few giant chips) but omg it was delicious. I was still feeling suitably content on my way home from work.

I think it's a balance. It's not ideal if you're trying to lose weight (I am, obv!) but in the longer term I don't like the idea of absolute 'rules'... More 'guidance'... Wink

I, as predicted, have lost nothing. But on Monday I am going to Blitz for two weeks to get me going again. I can't start this weekend as I have DS2's party and craziness will abound, but I will be as good as poss then Blitz away on Monday.
Forgot to say Ledkr- you can get the book second hand from Amazon for cheap. Mine was 2.20 I think.

Hello all can I please join you?
Was going to do low carb Bootcamp but then spotted this and think it may be a better start point - roping DH in as well and he will struggle to go as low carb as that requires.
Downloaded book onto kindle and plan ti start Monday.
Going to find it really hard as have a 12 week old and am eating far too much cake etc to help with the sleep deprivation but I need to do something to put a spring in my step and enable me to fit back into work clothes by January.
