Low-carb diets

Anna Richardson- is this low carb?

Hi,
I started AR's body blitz diet two and a half weeks ago and I am really enjoying it. I lost weight on WW before but counting points/calories really depressed me and I can't do it long term.

My question is:

Is this diet low-carb and is this why it works? She has 5 rules:

  1. No sugar
  2. No wheat
  3. No alcohol
  4. Limited dairy
  5. No carbs after 6pm

So, for example, today I had porridge with nuts for breakfast, mixed baby salad leaves with tomatoes, olives, prosciutto and avo, a ryvita with humous and then I will have bolognese with shredded cabbage instead of pasta.

Is this low carbing? If not, can I do it and still get the benefits others on the bootcamp are getting? I am losing weight fairly quickly, I am enjoying it and I know I can sustain it long term.

Cheers

I've been having an omelette when I can't be arsed! Love a platter thingy too for lunch.

This is the first time I have been able to go to the gym since I had DS1 5.8 yrs ago! DS2 has just started preschool today and I have two free mornings for the first time- whoop whoop! I am a SAHM but am doing extra marking (ex teacher) to fund my gym extravagance. Have so far made enough for the first six months.

So true about the 80% thing. Can't lose weight with exercise alone. I really need the toning as well as the cardio- my core is wrecked from having the boys and I have no stomach muscles. Hoping Curves will turn me into a goddess.

Should we record our stats for our mini little sapling thread quiche?

I will go first...

Age: 35
Height: 5' 2.5"
Starting weight: 11 stone 10 pounds
Weight on Fri 6th: 11 stone 2 pounds
Target weight: 9 stone 7 pounds
I have two boys aged 2.11 and 5.8.

162 lbs (11 stone 6? Ish?) starting weight was 12 stone 2, but that was a year ago, and I lost half a stone before Christmas. Since I started new job in Dec, have been static.

Target 10 stone, but should be 9.7. Will re-evaluate in a month or so!

Dd1(13) ds1(11) dd2 (10 in 2 weeks) definitely old enough for me to have lost baby weight....

Am working ft as a registrar in an arts centre (lit arts portfolio, but am currently also doing visual arts and indigenous). Have applied for compressed work week so would only be working 4 days. Am also compulsive volunteer - dd2 has physical disability so am heavily involved with two not for profits. And am a guider. am fat because I love to eat, and do. Often. Have now just had an epiphany, as realized that eating is probably the one thing I do for me... Huh. Who knew?!

I love to eat too. Particularly fatty curries, chocolate, ice cream, white wine. I am fat because I eat too much, but also because my meds make me gain weight sadly. I also do no exercise.

Gym was fun today- I think I am going to enjoy it. They were really good- weighed and measured me, calculated body fat percentage, gave me targets etc. Was very impressed considering its not megabucks.

When she weighed me I was 11st 4, which is I'm guessing due to different scales. So I'd like to use that as my starting weight now I think.

My body fat was categorised 'poor' and was 32% Sad

What's quite nice is that we are all almost exactly the same in our size bearing height difference in mind. Smile

Yes, it's quite nice - I'm used to being the odd one out, there seems to be a split between threads where folk just need toning, and those with 4-6 stone to lose, so it's good to have found folk in a similar position! Hopefully we'll keep pace with each other to our targets!!

I hope I can keep up- after the first burst of loss it seems to be more tricky. Scales aren't budging! Anyway- the exercise will help for sure.

Maybe I'm eating too many nuts!

Oh shit....just had a binge. Not sure why but raided the cupboard and ate loads of some chocolate.

I think it was cos I didn't have a satisfying dinner?

Never mind,I will get back on board in the morning.

I just ate a piece of banana cake this morning. Whoops! Am back on it for the rest of the day though. DH has been away for two weeks and I am very tired. That is my defence!

However, when I weighed myself this morn I was down to 11stone on my scales. So lost a couple of pounds this week!

Oi, no weighing - we weigh on Fridays! Wink

I had bacon, avocado and leaves for brekkie, soup (dairy and gluten free) and salad for lunch, two ryvita with peanut butter this avo, and am toying with either that creamy curry or a butternut squash medley thing tonight. Oh, and I had half a banana.

Dh is still in the UK, so I've had to get the whole first week at school/ work thing done. Thought I was going to crack last night, but had a peppermint tea and went to bed... I had better blooming well have lost a few pounds tomorrow!!!

I ordered some paleo recipe books as well which arrived today - I think it's the logical next step from Anna... So I'm holding them in reserve in case I go into stasis, but will check them out and see if I can identify some recipes that will fit. I seem to be doing a lot of 'things with salad' at the mo...

Ok you are right- no more weighing. I will just do Fridays! Stupid scales make me obsess anyway.

At my weigh in this morning I was 11st 1lb.

I had: wheat free muesli
Naughty nana cake
Salad with avo, olives, ham
Curry
Nuts

Okay, I'm 2.5 lbs down from Monday, so that's probably about right. I'm counting this as my first week on Anna (again) so in theory I should lose another pound - ish over the weekend, which would put me on track for the 7 lbs over two weeks, sound right?

Peachy, you are down a pound on last week, so that's great. I always get heavier when I start to exercise in the first instance! Well done!

Do you think you can eat as much as you like as long as it follows the rules?

I think Anna does say food in moderation. For example a couple of spoons of humous not the entire pot.

I am gagging to make and eat an apple crumble,I might have to make one at the weekend. I also had a glass of red wine last night but reckon that should be ok a couple of nights a week. Does anyone know how long a bottle of wine (red) lasts when opened?

No I don't. Over two weeks I think. I watched Bake Off last night and I was salivating into my lap. It looked SO good. But everything broke all 5 rules!
I am really hoping to drop below 11st on Fri. Really trying to be strict so I meet my target.
I think def make a crumble at the weekend- she says after the first two weeks you can have treats at weekends.
Just had a really yummy salad with proscuitto, chorizo, olives and avo.

It can start oxidising and get a bit ropy after a week - usually fine until then.

I lost the thread!! But now am found. Work is crazy busy and we are in such high turnover - in one week we've had two leaving meals and a welcome one, as well as two lunch meetings and a birthday (replete with brownies). I'm doing my best, but there are carbs everywhere, and I'm eating the minimum amount so as not to draw attention or be anti-social. My boss literally grilled the poor birthday girl because she wasn't scarfing brownies... In front of everyone. I hadn't noticed before, but it was really weird. Like compulsory fat and sugar inhalation!!
I'm not holding out for 7lbs as a result, but I think i's coming off slowly.

Glad you are found Priss !! I am doing well this week I think. The exercise is def making a big difference. I don't even think about carbs at tea time now, but I really miss yummy cakes.
My downfall is church stuff. They seem to want to kill me and my waistline with kindness and wine and cheese and cake

Only a pound for me too - but that's better than I thought it would be after the week I've had. Going to read through all of the paleo stuff this weekend, and work out how I can add in exercise as well.

We're having our flooring replaced next week, so my whole house is a building site, and it's dd2's birthday . I guess that means cake as well....

How are your measurements? Do you feel as though you are more toned, even if not lighter, with the exercise?

No. Am still wobbly and plumpy. Sad Going to step it all up as of tmrw. I want at least two pounds off by Friday.

I can't believe you posted this I was just about to ask for shopping list suggestions for Monday.
I'm going to do this again, I lost loads a few months ago but have just had surgery and have out a bit back on.
I found it really easy to follow and lost half a stone but also broke some really bad habits.
