OK. It has come to my attention that there has been a lot of slippage going on over the last few days

Low carbing is not a very forgiving way of eating. It isn't like following a low calorie diet, where one meal or one day can compensate for another.

If you're low carbing then you have to commit to low carbing all the time.

Once you reach your target weight, then this isn't necessarily the case, but whilst you're losing weight, you really do have to keep your carbs low. If you don't, then all you're doing is constantly messing with your blood sugars.

And, if you have a massive increase in carbs, you are constantly re-filling your glycogen stores, which means your weight could go up by as much as 7lbs. And you're stopping your body shifting from carb-burning to fat-burning, because you're having to deal with all those pesky carbs.

So, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to confess all

Let's make sure that we really commit and get shot of that weight.

When are you eating them? What kind of occasion? What is it that you most like about them?

NewStartNewStory · 21/05/2013 19:54

i love the texture and the melted cheese and that is all i really want to eat right now. Because i am hungry and i hate veg and I am tired and stressed and if I get one more bit of attitude/door slamming rage out of ds tonight i might just flip. And really food is just too much effort atm.

captainmummy · 21/05/2013 19:58

Hate veg, hum? I was going to suggest broccoli with melted cheese, or celeriac fondant with melted cheese; - how about a egg-fritatta thingy, with melted cheese on top. You can even split them and butter them.

BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 20:00

So it's comfort eating - not really the food itself?

How about melting grated Parmesan/cheddar in mounds on a baking tray to make cheese 'crisps'?

Lordy, this thread's moved fast today. Sorry but LOL at BIWI's response to one hour carb fest. Also, bet no one touches a gummy bear for a while...
Just read a bit of Daily Apple blog and found fab looking breakfast muesli idea for weekends/bootcamp lite which is a tablespoon or so of chopped up/mixed together coconut flakes, walnuts, hazlenuts, almonds, flaxseeds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds with a handful of berries strewn over full fat yoghurt. May have to try that this weekend...
Can actually fit in my more stretchy pair of jeans again. Woo hoo! (unstretchy pair sadly still at mid-thigh level ). Anyone else battling to get in particular item of clothing that's been languishing in wardrobe?
We should will post the day we fit in them again!
Have a good evening all!

NewStartNewStory · 21/05/2013 20:08

Actually have been craving this all day before even putting ds into the equation. it is my normal but I waaaaaaaaaant it food in the beginning. not so fussed tonight as i am in bed and as soon as child stops using the wall to inflicted damage to himself goes to sleep, I am sleeping. It is the texture i am craving really i think. The little explosions of melted cheese. I am hungry just being stubborn and grumpy will look at the options tomo am going to go deal with child some more.

maidofmuss · 21/05/2013 20:10

Just cross-posted ? the melted cheese 'crisps' are brill new start ? have done them a couple of times when needed something comforting/extra

MrsFlorrick · 21/05/2013 20:14

Ugh. Another day not quite right here.

B: half a two egg omelette with mushroom and leek
L: other half of above omelette with added mayo (it was cold and a bit dull).
D: LC style truffle pizza. ("Pizza base" made of 3 eggs and one cup = circa 100g of milled flax with baking powder and water), topped with talaggio cheese, mushrooms, summer truffle and truffle oil.
Snack: several table spoons early afternoon whilst steeling myself to take DC to soft play (hideous).

Off to swim to work off all that truffle-tastic pizza.....

Oh and who ever was after fake dough all stuff for cheese balls. Use the flax recipe. It's lovely.

And I am off to the gym to dive under water and avoid BIWIs stick no doubt coming my way

decaffwithcream · 21/05/2013 20:16

What about low-carb pancakes with melted cheese as an answer to cheese doughballs?

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/05/2013 20:17

B - boiled egg
L - salad with chicken, red pesto and mozzarella
D - sirloin steaks and salad with mayo and horseradish

decaffwithcream · 21/05/2013 20:23

B - small cup lidl yoghurt, smoked applewood cheese and cucumber with mayo in an omlette

L - celeriac chips with avacado and blue gorgonzola "dip"

D - smoked salmon and spinach cooked in cream on courgetti with a sprinkle of grated cheddar mixed in.

S- a square of dark chocolate.

Have to get to shops tomorrow so not relying on cheese so much!

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/05/2013 20:25

I have realised that I just need to completely change my relationship with food and enjoy what I can have (lots of which is delicious). If and when I try to substitute carby/sugary things with low carb substitutes I find the carb creep starts or they don't taste the same and therefore I crave more this is especially true for those foods I have eaten in the past as comfort foods. It is hard, but the longer I stay on track the easier i find it.

I also try to keep things simple for the most part otherwise again I fall off the wagon into quick carbs instead. So I always have a salad for lunch - with a meat/cheese/sandwich filling - this bit on the top is what I change to keep things not the same or boring. Dinners I always have meat or fish with vegetables - but different meats and veg combos again not boring but simple. We often cook larger dinners and have leftovers for salad accompaniment for lunch.

Just my views though, in summary - simple, non-replacements and organised!

Bessie123 · 21/05/2013 20:35

I just made a bastardised moussaka-style thingy: slices of marrow, fried in butter and oil laid in a dish and covered with Quorn lamb pieces in a tomato sauce (made with shallots, v little tomato purée, tinned tomatoes, cumin, cinnamon and mint), some feta crumbled on top then covered with a cheese sauce made with creme fraiche, cream and cheese. It was surprisingly nice, dh had 3 helpings Grin

I had a glass of wine too but it doesn't count because it was dh's, I stole it

AuntieMaggie · 21/05/2013 20:36

Yes biwi I still struggle with this woe when I'm travelling/on the go and tired though eve meals are easier as I don't have to cook them just find somewhere to eat! I spend time looking at restaurants on the internet so I have an idea of my options before I get there. Tonight was roast gammon and turkey with cauli cheese at the toby carvery.

I currently have a coolbox with a block of cheese (and a knife to cut it up as its cheaper than portions) a jar of peanut butter a bag of nuts and several packets of various low carb food items from m&s for lunches.

I'm changing jobs soon so fingers crossed I won't be so stressed and will be able to keep on top of it more.

BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 20:38

Today:

B - Total FF yoghurt with vanilla esssence
L - Leftover roast chicken, cabbage and celeriac puree from dinner last night
R - roasted lamb chops with roasted veg (in lots of olive oil) celery, shallots, red and yellow pepper and red chillies (and one or two baby new potatoes that were there for DH may have snuck in there!)

Just checking in. My lower-carb diet is working for my IBS. I've been in less pain and far less bloating for the last 2 weeks. No other IBS diet has worked in the previous 6yrs.

I still have porridge for breakfast but have been able to tweak my meals and snacks for the rest of the day to minimise the carbs and up my protein. No idea if I've lost weight (I was underweight anyway) but this type of eating suits my body far more than my carb heavy veggie diet.

I've got the Rose Elliot low carb veggie book so I'm going to work out which ones will work for me.

MsRinky · 21/05/2013 21:23

Today:

Mushroom and ham omelette
Brown shrimps and cucumber in herb mayonnaise
Cheeseburgers with avocado and salad leaves.

MrRinky pleaded for onion rings, so I made batter with half a beaten egg, a heaped tablespoon of soy flour, a smidgen of baking powder and chopped rosemary and split a small onion into rings and deep fried them. They were awesome, if I say so myself.

Also have treated myself to a fitbit and have walked 11000 steps today, hurrah.

captainmummy · 21/05/2013 21:28

Breakfast - soya yog, rooibos black tea with coconut oil
Lunch - lettuce, mayo, radishes, cheese,
Dinner - Lidl 'grillsteak' (processed but actually v nice, v peppery!) mushrooms in butter, broccoli with butter, lettuce with mayo.
Snack- macadamia nuts, slice ham.

LilyAmaryllis · 21/05/2013 21:48

B- tuna mayo salad. (actually had to leave half of it as I was in such a hurry to get a train)
L - poached egg and salad
D - cheese and salad
S - greek yoghurt

Lunch was at a colleague's house. She said, would you like poached egg on toast for lunch? Big breath... how about if I had poached egg with whatever bits of salad you might have in the fridge. Phew navigated that one. I have this mental picture of it "going straight on the hips" if a high carb food passes my lips!

After that sat through a whole afternoon meeting with lots of fruit and carby-snacks on the table touching none of it, and whole train ride home without buying any snacks. I actually marvelled at my new super-human powers, there is no way in the past I could have existed for that many hours without needing a snack. Cravings are just gone. Thank you BIWI and all for this amazing inspiration.

Though I do think all the travelling-snack ideas posted earlier all sound like really good ones!

bulletwithbutterflywings · 21/05/2013 21:51

Hi all

B - yoghurt
S - couple of forkfuls of cheese and onion sandwich filler - Sainsburys deli stuff
L - huge salad of leaves, half avocado, feta, cherry toms, ham, mayo and a chicken leg
D chicken curry and rice. Cauliflower rice of course!
Cheese

Lots of water but forgot to tick off how many glasses.

MaryBeardfanclub · 21/05/2013 22:36

evening all
found some yummy looking recipes on the low carb diabetic website here
dp is struggling so I made him some flax bread from the recipes - does not look like the picture! Toast is his "go to" food. Some of the food on there looks amazing - vegetable candy is mentioned as a good travelling snack

we have 1 egg left in the house, looks like there's going to be a fight in the morning...

CrabbyBigbottom · 21/05/2013 22:39

Aargh BIWI you were supposed to threaten me with your big stick and speak sternly to me, not give me sympathy and permission! Grin I read your reply and was opening that fridge door within 5 seconds flat. Blush

2 small glasses of white so not the end of the world I guess. A relaxing interlude at the end of an odd and stressy day. Black farm sausages with celeriac mash and roasted broccoli for dinner. Yum.

milliemoomay · 21/05/2013 23:03

I forgot to add my weight on the spreadsheet yesterday, but I can't seem to do so today as I can't seem to scroll up to find the names (sorry.. not really explaining it very well) Can someone have a look at the spreadsheet please?

Did I break it?

BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 23:31

Don't blame me, Crabby! Grin

meglet I'm really glad to hear it. My IBS is a distant memory now. It's only if I start to eat too many carbs that it's likely to rear its ugly head.
