OK. It has come to my attention that there has been a lot of slippage going on over the last few days

Low carbing is not a very forgiving way of eating. It isn't like following a low calorie diet, where one meal or one day can compensate for another.

If you're low carbing then you have to commit to low carbing all the time.

Once you reach your target weight, then this isn't necessarily the case, but whilst you're losing weight, you really do have to keep your carbs low. If you don't, then all you're doing is constantly messing with your blood sugars.

And, if you have a massive increase in carbs, you are constantly re-filling your glycogen stores, which means your weight could go up by as much as 7lbs. And you're stopping your body shifting from carb-burning to fat-burning, because you're having to deal with all those pesky carbs.

So, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to confess all

Let's make sure that we really commit and get shot of that weight.

Morning All!

My carb total for my first day was 31g... I wasn't hungry or craving nonsense at any point.

I had two thin cheese omlettes before I went to Body Pump and some chicken curry when I got back.

Thanks for that info Lavender I love the idea of fat burning!

couch25cakes · 21/05/2013 11:10

Many thanks BIWI. I was going to just have some cauli and maybe cabbage with mine, and maybe some swede in the curry. Rice for the family.

Next question -I did this for a while last year and was quite into my cauliflower rice. Can someone remind me how long it needs to be microwaved for; I've totally forgotten.

KatoPotato · 21/05/2013 11:22

Cauliflower rice??

decaffwithcream · 21/05/2013 11:24

IIRC 8 minutes?

bertieboo · 21/05/2013 11:26

BIWI - thank you for your post in response to my breakfast. Of course you are right, and that kick of sweetness, and crunch, in the morning definitely helps wake me up but the flip side is the carb craving mid morning, which I'm suffering from now.
I shall get up earlier and make myself a proper breakfast and make sure that if I'm out during the day I pack a lunch which a decent mix of proteins and salad.
Just need to get more organised!

bertieboo · 21/05/2013 11:29

I found this recipe for cauliflower rice
paleospirit.com/2011/basic-cauliflower-rice-recipe/
Looks delicious!

BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 11:55

bertie - quickest breakfast for me is scrambled eggs. Break eggs into bowl, beat, season, pour into pan with lots of melted butter, stir quickly for about 2 minutes and serve!

KatoPotato It's an amazing feeling. I can feel the energy coming from all of my body - it's as if the fat is being stripped out.

I started low-carbing in January, so I'm nearly 6 months down the line and I can honestly, honestly say that I don't miss sugar. I don't really think about it. I think about my three meals a day and that's it - snacking doesn't really come into my mind any more. I used to have reactive hypoglycaemia and I got shaky as hell, I even had to carry a bag of dried fruit around with me. It's all gone now. I sometimes get hungry, but never shaky.

colette · 21/05/2013 12:05

Ewanh - would you pot recipes for:

corned beef hash with swede

  • smoked mackerel kedgeree with cauli rice
  • sardine fishcakes
  • feta and courgette crustless quiche
  • tinned tuna nicoise salad

please. Thanks for the tips

NewStartNewStory · 21/05/2013 12:09

lavender that information about the glycogen stores and exercise was interesting.

I had my first long training session since restarting and bloody hell did i feel it. I did really well avoided all temptations for snacks during training and the coffee i had had NO sugar added to it and was surprisingly sweet enough. I was really proud of myself until I unthinkingly accepted a chocolate biscuit afterwards. Person who offered me it has been informed about the diet plan and has agreed not to offer me any more. It was habit rather then need to so really disappointed with myself tbh. Shocking training session too. :(

B (stupid o'clock): scrambled eggs, coffee 2 sweetners and milk
S: coffee with milk from machine, 1 chocolate digestive :(
L: bacon and egg at little cafe
1 ltr water drunk

Actually got some sleep last night but ds is very unsettled atm and was up a couple of times. looking forward to another early night tonight. Plan for tomo is to start making my coffee with just one sweetner. see if i can bare it.

LavenderBriggs · 21/05/2013 12:15

NewStart I hope it helps a bit. I really struggled with the first couple of runs, but when the fat-burning kicks in it's the most incredible feeling - I felt as if I could just keep going. I wasn't even hungry when I got home. It's as if my body rewards me for feeding it what it actually needs.

Don't be upset about the biscuit - it's just a biscuit, and as you say, it's just habit, that will go. And skip the sweetener - that will slay your biscuit demon!

prettybird · 21/05/2013 13:26

2lb off Smile. Now into the "10 stone somethings" SmileSmile at 10 stone 12lb.

Also very very close to "normal" BMI - now 25.3 Smile

Next target is to get to "weight in 3 digits" - last time I was there was 4 years ago.

Last night had lovely pork steak fried in butter, with roasted asparagus (with olive oil and flaked Parmesan) and mashed celeriac (with butter and cream). My dad was over, so we did open a bottle of (very nice) Chenin. Had some strawberries and cream too - but no sugar for me.

Today I've had two boiled eggs and snacks of 2 brazil nuts and a mini pepperami. Lunch is going to be coleslaw, salami and Parma ham.

Meeting a friend in town tonight, so I'll just have to choose something low carb wherever she takes me.

BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 13:29

Woo hoo! Flowers

Lavender - I know what you mean about that feeling. When I've been running later in the day, after I've eaten, I actually feel weighed down, in a very odd kind of way.

OP posts:
HeirToTheIronThrone · 21/05/2013 13:41

Prettybird that's amazing! You're very close to my target. I, however, am FAR from it... Still, good day so far - some greek yog and a cup of tea, and just had tuna and cucumber mayo wrapped in little gem leaves. Shepherds pie with swede topping for dinner I think.

ZimboMum · 21/05/2013 13:55

Hi all,

B: 2 egg omelette in butter with herbs, one rasher bacon and handful grated cheddar.
L: Steak with 50g asparagus and 50g broccoli in butter with dollop of mayo
D will be: fish pie from recipe thread with cauli mash and maybe another veg

Have thought that I might count the carbs I actually eat for a few days just to see what sort of amount of carbs i'm actually eating. so calculated today so far
Eggs: 1g (working at 0.5g per egg) No carbs in bacon, butter and cheese.
0.7 g for asparagus
0.55g for broccoli
0.4g for mayo. No carbs in steak.
Making 2.65g so far. Guess dinner will be a lot more and will work it out later.

LackaDAISYcal · 21/05/2013 14:00

Helloooo

Struggling to get back on track. Especially wrt to drinking enough water and not drinking diet pepsi.

foodwise, doing OK, but I had a couple of glasses of wine last night and some gummi bears.

B today was greek yogurt with some sunflower and pumpkin seeds
L lightly smoked salmon pan fried in butter, poached egg and salad
D will be spag bol sauce on courgette ribbons

My worst time is in the evening when I'm working, and usually pop sweeties whilst driving between clients. Really struggled last night with sugar cravings though. I know these will pass, but it is sooooo hard.

A friend of mine has lost a lot of weight low carbing, though she didn't follow any particular advice/diet. She was talking about it the other day, and said that she had read something that said for an hour a day you can pretty much eat what you want as long as you low carb the rest of the time. I was a bit Hmm about that. Is she confusing the Zoe Harcombe regime that allows some carbs at one meal? Or is it
just that when you are in established fat burning mode, the odd carb doesn't do too much to set it back? I can't see that stuffing in carbs for an hour a day would result in anything other than weight gain? Can anyone shed any light on her comment?

WillieWaggledagger · 21/05/2013 14:22

zoe harcombe i think says that it's better to eat a whole box of chocolates in one go and get the insulin hit over with than eat a couple at a time spread over longer. that's all very well but sounds like a recipe for binge eating tbh - though i may well be misquoting her!

perhaps that's what your pal is talking about daisy? either way, if it's something that's being done on a daily basis it's not going to maintain steady blood sugar levels, and it won't help with cravings or hunger pangs, and i agree with you that for me it would just result in weight gain!

maidofmuss · 21/05/2013 14:23

Although wd be lovely if true, suspect eating as much carb as you like in a one-hr window is a definite no-no on this WOE as explained BT BIWI at start of week 3....
Crabby - hope you feel better with it all soon. Some really great info from everyone that I will take on board too. I felt rubbish yesterday too but realise did def not drink enough water and did squeeze in day 1 shred in morning which knackered me (also my low-fat Philly mix-up didn't help...)
Today
B. Gammon ham slice plus egg fried in butter
L hv just had work salad bar choosing low carb stuff (and hoping nothing too terrible hidden in dressings)
D will be salmon stir fry veg (with soy for salts)
Maybe a little slurp of G and T....

BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 14:57

Right.

LackaDAISYcal STEP AWAY FROM THE GUMMI BEARS!

You will NEVER break the sugar addiction at this rate, because you're still feeding it. And why on earth have you got sweeties with you? Stop buying them!

There are 58g carbs in 10 gummi bears!

I bet you have easily eaten around, if not more, than 10. So no wonder you are struggling.

Seriously. You know that sugar is what we're trying to avoid. Why are you doing this to yourself?

OP posts:
BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 14:58

And my personal opinion about being able to eat what you want in a hour?

Bollocks.

I hope that is succinct enough for you!

How can it possibly be true? What do you think your body does for that hour? Looks the other way? It's wishful thinking nonsense.

OP posts:
BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 15:00

Gummi Bears

OP posts:
captainmummy · 21/05/2013 15:08

looks the other way Grin Grin

Ok moving on... does anyone know where to get coconut oil from? my waitrose used to stock it, but ovbviously doesn;t any more - and there is no health food shop in town.

BigStickBIWI · 21/05/2013 15:13

Sainsbury's sell it, if that's any help?

OP posts:
captainmummy · 21/05/2013 15:19

No Sainsbos in the area, would have to make a special trip Sad - but there is a Homebase there too Smile!

I usually use the coconut oil in my Rooisbos tea (for breakfast - keeps me going til lunch) and lasted for about 6 months! What else can i use - how about that coconut cream solid stuff? Is it the same?
