June 2025 Low Carb Bootcamp Week 1

Just4June · 01/06/2025 08:46

Exciting title, I know! It's 1st June, and we're off (although I know many have been following bootcamp rules for a while).

Remember to use your new name, if you changed it=.

Firstly a disclaimer:
The bootcamp threads are a community effort. I, and any of the other MNetters who give advice here, are not medics and we are not qualified in nutrition or dietetics. Recommendations and support are based on our experiences and understanding of low carbing, developed over many years. Before starting, if you are on any kind of long-term medication (especially for high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol), please check with your GP, as the results of low carbing can mean you may need to adjust your dosage. And if you’re pregnant or breast-feeding, we suggest you follow Bootcamp Light. If you have a history of disordered eating, please consider very carefully whether or not this way of eating (WOE) will be in your best interests.

HERE is the new spreadsheet. Thanks @FinallyHere for taking on the technical role again.

If you're not on the spreadsheet and want to be added, message @FinallyHere or add yourself to the bottom of the list. Please don't adjust any of the other cells, except the one for entering your weight. You don't have to be on the spreadsheet to join in with the threads, and if you want to be on the spreadsheet bu don;t want to post your actual weight simply enter 100 in the first column and reduce that by the appropriate amount each week.

I'm starting today, since it's the beginning of a new month, and using this morning's weight, but some like to weigh on a Monday, or a Friday (before the sins of a weekend), or to enter the lowest weight of the week, or an average. Some people weigh every day (I'm a daily weigher), some people once a week, and some people avoid the scales altogether, relying on body measurements and general health and wellbeing.

It is important to be familiar with bootcamp rules, and to know the carb counts in various foods. They are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet. If you've been on bootcamps for years you might want to familiarise yourself with the information - I'd forgotten how carby some nuts are - and if you're new to bootcamp have a good look at all the resources. And ask any questions you want, someone should be able to give you an answer.

Good luck everyone. Here's to an excellent month!

Good luck everyone.

@50FootWave If you like the sound of aubergine lasagne you may also love the IPD Moussaka on the low carb meat recipes thread - I usually make a massive one and then eat it with plenty of veg for the next few days (or freeze some if I can stop the rest of my family diving in).

Yesterday was all about the St Agur Creme, I must have eaten at least half a pot of it over lunch (as a dip with lettuce) and dinner (with chicken wings and green veg). I did succomb to some ff cream cheese with a bit of double cream and cocoa powder to avoid real chocolate, so today I probably need to rein in the dairy (although I'm having a FFGY snack later). Water intake going quite well when I remember not to chug it all back just before bed!

Oh wow, thanks, @CleanQueen123 @CrystalTits and @prettybird for all the recipes and suggestions!

Really appreciated. 🫶

Well, I’ve achieved my first relatively easy target: to get under 12.5 stone Smile I was 12 st 6.5lb this morning Halo

My target for this month long Boot Camp is to get under 12 st. It might actually be achievable Grin

Yesterday I had creamy tomato and shallot scrambled eggs for supper. I was better on the water - had a few large glasses of sparkling water infused with a sliced strawberry. It does mean that I’m breaking the Boot Camp rules though Blush as at the end of the day I eat the slices of that single strawberry that has worked so hard over the day Wink

Don't worry @prettybird I've taken over the threads this month, but I didn't pick up the big stick Grin

@50FootWave any reason for the 'no veg'? None in the freezer?

OP posts:
Just4June · 04/06/2025 14:53

That is so annoying, and you did well to scrape it away.

The IPD moussaka is fantastic - so rich and decadent. I'll put it on my menu for next week.

Food today: B - half avocado with evoo
L - left over cheese and veg frittata with salad
D - salmon wrapped in pancetta with vegetable ragout (fennel, red pepper, courgette, shallot, tomatoes and lots of fresh herbs).

Just4June · 02/06/2025 22:11

@YourFairCyanReader re carb counts: We don't generally count carbs on bootcamp, the idea is that we are freed up from weighing and measuring food and counting carbs or calories, and that by following the 10 rules we should be OK. So many people have weighed food and counted calories for years and it's a blessed relief to step back from that obsession.

However, I know it's sometimes helpful to get an idea of whether you're in the right ballpark. 32g carb seems quite low. Different schools of thought count under 100g as low carb, others suggest 50g. NHS diabetes advice suggests 50-130g. It also depends on how many total calories you are eating, I have my mfp macros set to 15% carbs. That gives me plenty of options for a variety of veg, or on bootcamp lite for a few berries and nuts.

Thanks for this and I do have a relatively low amount I'm eating anyway, but yes that's a good guide. I don't intend to count at all but used Nutracheck first few days to get an idea. Thanks!

@50FootWave any reason for the 'no veg'? None in the freezer?

Typo! I meant no RICE! My subconscious is playing games!!!!

TheOnlyMrsW · 04/06/2025 18:14

@Just4June your veg ragout sounds lovely, will add that to the list! Loving the lasagne ideas but always a bit concerned about aubergine - I've never tried it but always looks a bit slimy when it's on cooking shows

Am starting to write my list for next week's festival - our coolbox is a 50l Igloo which should keep things cool from Weds until at least Saturday, ideally I'd like to only buy a main evening meal from the arena food vendors to cut down on expense so need to have plenty of LC snacks and breakfast/lunch options with us. We've got power so can use a travel kettle for tea but pretty stumped so far - I can stock up on rollitos, individual ffgy pots, pre-cook and freeze bacon/sausages etc but not allowed gas so our stove can't come which is causing me to have to think harder than normal. Also veg will be a problem even before you factor in alcohol

CleanQueen123 · 04/06/2025 18:26

Another day nearly done!

Three cups of tea crept in today. But aside from that I've had:
Breakfast (6:30am): pint of electrolytes & black coffee
Breakfast (9:30am): two boiled eggs & large spoon of coleslaw
Lunch: leftover roast chicken, salad & mayo
Dinner: roast chicken thighs, salad & coleslaw.

Might have some FFGY later but trying to avoid evening snacking.

@TheOnlyMrsW if you've got power, what about a portable electric hob then at least you've got some reheating options for soup etc (veg soup of course!). For lunch, some raw veg (crudities) and dips - radish, cauliflower, celery, peppers, mushroom, mange tout, broccoli, cucumber, fennel, baby corn... with some protein like chicken or ham, and nice fatty dips - gaucamole, blue cheese and cream cheese, marie rose... Or coleslaw with grated cheese and chopped ham, on spinach and lettuce leaves.

Avocado and tomato and mozzerella for breakfast. Or spinach and blue cheese salad. Or (even though it's still week one, and not in the rules) the cheese and almond muffins (with peanut butter), or a few berries with ffgy. Enjoy your festival. I've just booked one here for August - we'll be in our campervan.

Loving the meal plans and recipe ideas, I think I'll try the moussaka this bootcamp. My go to is cheeseburger pie.
I also rely too much on dairy and will eventually have to cut down. At the moment I'm having a big spoonful of Philadelphia as a dessert, it keeps me away from the chocolate cupboard.

prettybird · 04/06/2025 22:35

Tonight’s supper was crispy skinned salmon fillets (dead easy and really quick to fry) with buttery microwaved cauliflower florets (dh also had penne).

Goodiewhemper · 05/06/2025 06:22

Good morning everyone. I haven't checked in since Monday. So far so good. Yesterday and Tuesday I had breakfast of a ham and cheese sambo on cloud bread after an earlier coffee with cream. Lunch was cheeseburger pie with salad . Dinner on Tuesday was beef stroganoff with cauliflower rice and last night was chicken with buttered cabbage. I also had snacks of FFGY and boiled eggs on both days. I weighed in this morning and I am down to 79.6kg which is a stop of 1.3kg (almost 3lbs) since Monday. I can live with that.😃

Beakfast today will be my green smoothie (spinach, avocado, cucumber, almond milk and mint) with a boiled egg. I fancy tuna with little mayo and pickle for lunch and dinner will be tagliata (strips of steak served with rocket, parmesan shavings, cherry tomatoes and olive oil. Of course, there will be plenty of salad with both dishes.

I hope everyone has a great day..

50FootWave · 05/06/2025 06:47

Amazing update, @Goodiewhemper - that's a fantastic loss (and menu).

WFH today but feeling confident, my usual food noise has totally vanished!

B: Scrambled eggs.
L: Left over Thai curry curry with extra spinach.
D: Roast courgettes with feta.

Snacks: mini cucumbers dipped in mayo.

Want to hit 3l water today, and I'll have a 30 minute row. If the weather clears also a beach walk.

Happy Thursday (Day 5!) everyone 😀

FinallyHere · 05/06/2025 07:24

Happy Thursday @50FootWave and all the lovely bootcampers. So good to read your menus for some inspiration. This bootcamp I’m giving daily weighing a go , after a lifetime uneasy relationship with the scales. Reminding myself it’s just a number …

JumpingintoJune · 05/06/2025 08:09

Good morning @bootcamp
back on board now , FIL funeral on Tuesday went as well we hoped , lots of people attended which was nice
The DC went back to London yesterday , and normal life resumed
I had a nervous weigh in this morning , but luckily no damage has been done ( I must have got the ratio of 75% clotted cream with my 25% scone about right at the wake )

we had air fried salmon , with creamy kale and leek last night
tonight’s plan is roast chicken , breakfast is scrambled egg with spinach , lunch …. Not sure yet , but salad will be involved

@TheOnlyMrsW i like aubergine as a topping for a fake shepherds type pie
instead of potato , do thin slices of aubergine and courgette , drizzle some olive oil and I put a little home made tomato sauce and / or cream put a lid on and bake for an hour or so , take cover off and douse with generous amount of Parmesan , bake for another 30 mins or so , the aubergine sort of melts in and is lovely
I make this for when I’m at Pilates in the evening , it’s bung it in the oven and go type dinner

FinallyHere · 05/06/2025 09:12

That aubergine recipe sounds really interesting @JumpingintoJune

i love baba ganosh and the idea of aubergine but am always disappointed when I try cooking it myself. Might be I’m not allowing it enough time to ‘melt’. Shall give it a go for the next delivery.

50FootWave · 05/06/2025 09:18

Sorry to hear about your FIL, @JumpingintoJune.

Agree with @FinallyHere - your fake sheps pie sounds awesome - that's one to make at the weekend.

JumpingintoJune · 05/06/2025 09:35

I think the trick with aubergine is cook it longer than you think it needs ( with plenty of oil , cream , garlic and Parmesan ! )

TheOnlyMrsW · 05/06/2025 09:37

Morning all, another 2.2lb down today which is 4.2lb since Tuesday - whilst I know that it's mainly water and it only takes me back to where I started on my first BC it's good to see the scales moving. Had my first cup of herbal tea at 5.30 this morning as been awake hours by then so it will be a looooooong day.

@FinallyHere I've been a mainly daily weigher since I started on these threads nearly 2 years ago (after seeing the photos from the last time we were at Download and being appalled), I like to see the results in "real-time" as it were and in between bootcamps how adjusting my diet affects things. EG. I know that I can have the odd sandwich or chips or alcohol and not much will change unless it becomes a regular occurence but if I have both then it doesn't take long for the pounds to go on.

@Goodiewhemper your menus sound lovely, going to pinch the tagliata definitely and now fancy a stroganoff but on my own with DD this weekend and she will only really eat chicken so might have to wait until early next week 🙄.

@JumpingintoJune your shepherd's pie sounds yummy too - will add it to the plan for post-festival as will need all the good things!

@Just4June those suggestions are brilliant thank you, whilst we have power it's only supposed to be for charging phones so not sure I'd get away with a hob, we can have throwaway bbq's though (randomly as I'd thought that would be more of a fire risk than gas stoves!) so am going to investigate if I can manage omelette in our small pan on one of those. There is a pretty large Co-Op on site but it mainly stocks meal deals, quick processed food and booze! My dream is a camper but DH isn't keen - we don't have a driveway and he's 6'4" so sleeping could be an issue 😂.

Goodness that was long sorry - have a good day everyone, rain is back so mainlining herbal tea

TheOnlyMrsW · 05/06/2025 10:48

Sorry can't edit my post - @Just4June thanks also for the muffin suggestion, I hadn't thought of that. Although not strictly BC yet they will be way better than burger/chips/pizza/pretty much anything else that comes with carbs as standard!

Rayna37 · 05/06/2025 10:57

Doing ok with with eggs for breakfast, salad for dinner and trying to clear the oldest oddments from the freezer for dinners. Had boiled eggs mashed with butter in a bowl for breakfast yesterday which DS and I both enjoyed. Greek salad at lunch, beef chunk chilli with grated cheese for evening (let’s ignore the few kidney beans). A portion of chicken jalfrezi with cauli rice yesterday was good too. Bit of cambozola cheese with celery as a snack.

Running in my first actual race for about 6 years tonight which has thrown me, I only ever run first thing normally. Just had 3 eggs scrambled with some asparagus and will eat Greek Salad mid afternoon and hope that works. Off to yoga at lunch time.

Rayna37 · 05/06/2025 11:00

I love aubergine, may try a parmigiana and also moussaka in the coming weeks. I love going to a Flattiron in London whenever possible, for steak and the roast aubergine side. Incredible and great value too.

CleanQueen123 · 05/06/2025 13:00

Not the tidiest creation but aubergine lasagne is prepped for dinner! Just need to add some mozzarella and shove it in the oven. Perfect for the grim rainy day we're having here
