Evening everyone!

I'm starting the first week's chat thread this evening as I know everyone will be chomping at the bit to get going tomorrow!

First, and most importantly, here's the link to the spreadsheet

You'll see that it's now got a bit of colour coding going on. There are several posters who have said that they don't want to be on the spreadsheet, so they are on there, but greyed out - so I know who is/isn't wanting to talk about their weight.

If you're said you're a vegetarian, your row will be coloured green; this is important, so that we know how to advise you about foods (or rather, not to tell you off if you're eating nuts/fruit/seeds when you're allowed to, as a veggie!)

If you haven't seen the spreadsheet before - or even if you have! - have a good look around it. As well as Bootcamp rules, there's loads of helpful information on there (look at the tabs at the bottom). I've revised the vegetable carb count, which now includes some more veg.

If there's anything that isn't clear

Late checking in tonight. I'm an Avon lady, and have been busy packing up all the orders to deliver the weekend.

Really peed off with myself today. My daughter has Autism, doesn't eat much because she is picky and goes through food fads, so if she decides she likes something, I normally stock up on it, so yesterday I bought a load of satay chicken skewers, which is her latest thing. As I was rushing round this morning dealing with the usual pre-school drama, I grabbed a pack as a quick lunch for work. Come lunch time, I ate them, before looking at the carb count. 10.1!! 😮😫Totally mortified. I was doing so well.

Anyhow, KOKO, lesson learnt.
B: Coffee with Double Cream with chunk of cheese
L: VERY BAD Chicken skewers and bag of scratchings
D: Pork steak and 2 Fried Eggs - More coffee with double cream
All the water!

And just realised I've had no veg/salad today either! Bloody hell. Failed on day 5! 🙄😂

Think I have Carb Flu 🤧

LilianaVikavanovich · 18/05/2024 08:31

@Nestnearlyempty I've only tried one alcohol free wine , I think it was a Hardys Chardonnay , it was awful
Alcohol free Kronenberg cider is nice though , but it does taste like pop so I guess it’s quite carby
Not helpful , sorry

sheepdreams · 18/05/2024 08:33

@prettybird how is your burn healing? Burns are so painful. I hope it’s healing.

sorry I have not posted daily but work is manic at the minute!

I have KOKO. IF in the morning as used to this. Also one less meal to think about and prep.

Most meals have usually been egg based on a lunchtime- omelette or scrambled eggs, teatime usually dishes made with con thighs such as curry with buttered cabbage (far more flavoursome than rice) or meat with a range of low carb veg. I am really enjoying g pork shoulder chops which would be off limits on usual diets, so tender and flavoursome cooked in the slow cooker with shallots, then served with mashed swede with butter, coarse black better and cream.

Made a delicious fish pie with one of the mixed fish packs. Sauté large leek in butter, add a glue of double cream and 1 tablespoon of mature cheddar, season with black pepper, stir over low heat u til cheese is melted and then pour over and mix with cooked fish (I poached this in microwave for around 4 mins). All topped with a cauliflower mash with more grated cheese sprinkled on then grilled to brown the topping. Served with green beans and Twas delish 🤤.

I have to admit it does seem very strange eating all of this fat and I still have the fear of fat! Despite all of my reading of the science etc behind this WOE.

Absolutely motivating and inspirational to hear about experienced boot campers experiences of losing weight and very timely.

Im off on holiday for a few days next week so will following the plan but may be bootcamp light for those days.

Im in this for the long haul so I tend to be more flexible I.e bootcamp light on such occasions thinking about longevity rather than the quick fix of weight loss as I have in the past.

My goodness I have rambled! I hope everyone has a great weekend.

A question before I forget! I like Marks and Spencer Licorice Tea Bags (they seem to be copies of teapigs) but can’t find any carb count from anywhere including from my Nutracheck account can we have these?

lastchancesalmon · 18/05/2024 08:54

We've made it to the weekend! I'm very pleased with results so far (daily weigher) - going in the right direction.

@sheepdreams I had a look on Ocado at those teabags but no nutritional info on there either- it's unusual. I have had liquorice tea recommended to me on boot camp before so I would think it would be ok. Especially if the ingredients are only herbs?

@Gingerwarthog I recommend drinking the Zero electrolytes that BIWI mentioned on the prep thread. That usually sorts out my carb flu. And make sure you are eating plenty of fat, and adding salt to your food.

Tricky couple of days as last night a planned social occasion with a takeaway and today off to the O2 to see Olivia Rodrigo <squeal> so eating out all day. Last night I chose stir fried vegetables, prawn foo yung, and pork with bean sprouts and chicken skewers. Nothing tasted sweet so I think it was a good result. Today I can hopefully eat meat and salad and I'll take some babybels. Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Gingerwarthog · 18/05/2024 09:03

Thanks @lastchancesalmon
I need to drink more water. My head is clearer and my stomach is flatter and I have more energy. However I also have a snotty nose.

From Fast 800 website - Keto mug bread

  • Ingredients
  • 12g salted butter
  • 15g flaxseed
  • 35g ground almonds
  • 10g pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 small free-range egg

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a large mug in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds. Swirl it around to grease the sides.
  2. Mix all remaining ingredients in the mug with a fork until well combined.
  3. Microwave on high for 60–90 seconds (this may differ depending on your microwave wattage).
  4. Tap the top, if it’s firm and springy it’s ready. Return to the microwave for 10 seconds at a time if it is still soft to touch.
  5. Turn the bread out (give it a tap if needed) and cool on a wire rack before cutting into slices to serve.

Recipe sounds lovely - but no nuts/seeds in the first two weeks of Bootcamp for the non-veggies!!

Not a brilliant day yesterday, lots of running around so not enough water or veg, but did have a lovely curry for dinner with chicken, spinach, courgette, pepper, onion and tomatoes. The carbies had naan and poppadoms, I just had curry.

Topping up on water today as garden jobs to do, burgers for dinner with salad (I'll skip the bun).

Gig again tomorrow so will drive and eat at home first to avoid temptation, trying to plan for our festival next weekend too......

Inlimboin50s · 18/05/2024 16:13

Hello, long time lurker here and great results with bootcamp in October 2021.
Just to say that this Monday will be a month and I've lost nine pounds. Was 11 stone 8 and now a bit under 11. Keep going everyone!
For me I find cooking in bulk easier so enough ratatouille for 3 days or a large cauliflower cheese( cream, mustard and cheese for sauce ) to last 3 days. Loads of boiled eggs so I can grab one for my journey to work and babybels and a peperami for snacks. Large mushrooms topped with pesto and cheese and baked.
Greek yoghurt with blueberries and a dollop of crunchy peanut butter as a late snack when I'm feeling like chocolate and I still feel full in the morning..and also lose a bit more weight!
I like to keep up with the threads as I'm a bit of a chocoholic/ crisp addict but found this time round I've barely missed them.
Well done all and soon you'll see the results.

alwaysonadiet1 · 18/05/2024 16:21

The crustless quiche was delicious! With smoked streaky bacon instead of ham because that's what I had. Very rich, only needed a small slice with salad.

NigellaAwesome · 18/05/2024 17:40

I've found a nice product. Cypressa Tomato, feta & Kalamata olive tapenade. It is 4.6g of carb per 100g, but I just had a teaspoon of it (because that is all my teen left me Hmm) and mixed it up with homemade mayo. Otherwise I think it would be quite dense tasting. I had it with a couple of Lidl snack carrots dipped into it. Delicious!

That's a lovely recipe!

Asparagus will go soft, and softer, the longer you cook it. It has a lovely flavour, although it's fairly subtle - nothing bitter or horrible about it compared with, say Brussel sprouts or cabbage!

Go for it Flowers

@MissBeck that recipe looks yummy
the only thing ( if you’ve not eaten asparagus before ) it does make your wee smell a bit funny , so don’t be alarmed

We had the chicken Alfredo tonight , with added mushrooms and green beans.
DH … oh the mushrooms make this sauce really tasty ( he’s a cut the skin off the chicken type )
Me , I think it’s the cream, butter and Parmesan
It was very good

There's lots of low carb websites now with great recipes, but this one is by a diabetic org. I'm not diabetic but found a few gems on here. Worth a browse.

This recipie just popped up on my facebook feed, and I'm tempted to try it, but have never eaten asparagus before. What does it taste like? Is it hard and crunchy? Or does it soften when cooked?

https://cafedelites.com/cheesy-garlic-roasted-asparagus/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR0-KjKfwMBSLCsaC0KDSLxN970JJ48m1MJNy75pu0y60Kw9QT0n-SdM1VA_aem_AUxa8EVeDXGMndTtXDy50yKMmj9mlMHOWnN4kmu_N93flnoPfpD4bge-DsEJLzsAWUA99ovP2WA5GZ3Vnb08EA2F

Asparagus is my most favourite green veg on this way of eating. It's lovely lightly steamed with butter, pepper and shaved parmesan. And maybe a poached egg.

It's also lovely with chicken breasts, flattened, fried in butter, then add chicken stock, water, lemon, oregano and more butter. Simmer till liquid has reduced a bit. Gorgeous!

MissBeck · 18/05/2024 20:44

Fabulous! Thank you all! I have the Mozzarella, will get some asparagus tomorrow!

Huge thumbs up for the coleslaw! I've never used cider vinegar before and was a bit nervous, but once the mayo was added....gamechanger for my boring salad! @BIWI I can see why you said it all gets eaten up quickly!

B: Coffee with DC and 3 slices smoked bacon.
D: A huge pork steak with mixed salad and yummy coleslaw!
Not done too well on the water today 😟
