Jan '24 Dry Bootcamp - our last week

Morning all. Hope Storm Isha didn't do any/too much damage.

Here's the spreadsheet - hopefully fixed now!

Although this started out as a 4-week challenge, I realise of course, that January is the never-ending month, so we'll continue right to the bitter end, which will be a week on Wednesday!

Don't panic though - I will be starting another one for February, only this time it doesn't have to be a dry one.

I'll start the next one 'afresh' so it gives other people a chance to join us, which means that (if you want to) the first two weeks will be the usual strict Bootcamp. If you're happy on Bootcamp Light, or you simply want to be able to have a drink (!), then it's entirely up to you.

So thinking about our last ten days - what do you realistically want to be able to achieve? I'm still hoping to get the scales to start with 9 rather than 10, but that does mean I'm going to have to be super strict, as that leaves me with 3.25 lbs to lose. I have two meals out before the end of the month, but they're both in places I know I can make good choices, and I'm finding it easier to forgo the alcohol too, so I'm not too worried about those.

For me, then, it's a weight challenge - but it doesn't have to be weight. It could be a specific item of clothing (thinking about those of us who have holidays coming up), or your measurements, or anything else that you think you can work towards over the next ten days.

Well done all. I didn't manage my goal of getting below 300 but I have just managed to shift a stone so very happy with that.

Onwards into February 💪💪💪

That's so good to hear @Metabolicallycomplicated - and I hope that your MRI is helpful too.

Some really good losses in this short challenge, which is amazing. On average, the loss is 5.5lbs, which I think is brilliant. (And not everyone has weighed in yet, so hopefully it will be even more).

Thank you everyone for taking part, and for staying so focused.

Here's to seeing you all again tomorrow!

Great progress @PurpleWhirple! I presume that blip is your new scales?!

Another 200g off since Monday. I'm so pleased - more than 4kg off in 4 weeks. I haven't been perfect by any stretch but I have been consistent and I know thats key. Difficult but key! My next BC will be difficult with a much looked forward to holiday in Italy but the support here is wonderful !

I would love to be under 75kg at the end of the next BC (now it's an 8 weeker) we shall see!

blackteaplease · 31/01/2024 10:21

I feel like we need a top tips for holidays side chat. We generally go self catered and carbs are so easy as a go to.

prettybird · 31/01/2024 10:28

Depending on where you're going @blackteaplease , my go tos abroad are dried meat (eg saucisson in France, biltong in South Africa), fresh fruit and veg (not worrying too much about carb counts but just enjoying local produce) and cheeses.

cathyandclaire · 31/01/2024 11:16

If self-catering somewhere warm I'm a big barbecue fan. Lots of low carb meat/fish options and some lovely salads to go with. In holiday I tend to be more relaxed about carbier fruit and veg options, so allow a big tomato and mozzarella salad for eg.

We're off to Miami South Beach tomorrow, but in a Hotel- so planning on a late brunch ( omelette or something ) then some sort of salad or meat/ fish and veg. The main problem will be hidden carbs in dressings and the American tendency to stick breadcrumbs or batter on chicken/ fish / prawns

Yes the blip is the new scales which added 6lbs overnight. Pleased with where I've ended up though.

Where are you going? Ironically whenever we went to the continent I always used to drop shed loads of weight while we were away and could never figure out why until I recently realised I pretty much live on meat cooked over fire, lovely salads and cheese on holidays Grin

Metabolicallycomplicated · 31/01/2024 07:32

I’m still here although a bit quiet on the threads. Must do better on that. My next MRI is on Monday, this time it’s contrast imaging so should help get to the bottom of whatever’s going on with me.

Anyway in better news after my STS last week I’ve dropped 2lbs overnight, so I’m at 19st 10lbs down from 20st 7lbs at the beginning of Jan. 10lbs in a month with my metabolism/ hormones as they are now is unheard of and I’m exceptionally pleased with myself Grin.

I’ve realised I’m now officially in the groove with this WOE and it feels eminently sustainable at this point. Last time I remember hitting a similar point but I knew then it was temporary as I was treating the whole thing as a weight loss diet. This time I’m not thinking that way, I’m treating boot camp like a training ground for the rest of my life. I simply can’t eat a high carb diet, it makes me fat and sick. If I had coeliac disease I wouldn’t bat an eye at not eating gluten ever again and I see this as the same: I can’t tolerate high carbs so my diet simply has to stay low carb if I want to be well, and I do.

This is a massive shift in mindset for me: I am in no way ‘dieting’ or trying to lose weight at this point. I’m keeping an eye on my weight because it interests me to see the scales move and tells me if something new I ate the day before might have been too carby, but fundamentally there’s no deadline to this, this is just how I eat. Ive never felt so at peace with food, it’s a lovely thing.

Well done on your loss - and your resolution!

islandtiger · 31/01/2024 12:39

I've updated the spreadsheet and still stubbornly at 146 so STS. I'm not too downhearted, got so much on my emotional plate and generally much happier with this new WOE. I had a wobble in the middle of the week and went up a couple of pounds. Think I've been a bit heavy on the dairy, too easy to turn to cheese for snack attacks. But I've given up yoghurt and cream for now, and avoided the chocolate. I had been finding it too hard to stop after one or two squares after supper. Not surrendering my low cal tonic just yet, although wondering if that's stalling my weight loss, I still need those fake GnT's. Been very active but am going to monitor my step count and hoping yo get to the swimming pool next week when I'm back with DM. I'll add this recipe to the vegetarian thread. Another Ottolenghi aubergine concoction. A few flaked almonds and pomegranate seeds, not enough to be too carby. See you tomorrow everyone

Well done Purple!
The shift on your record could now appear on mine. Scales shopping ahead.

This morning mine told me I was half a stone up on last week!
Luckily, when I got off, they were still showing 7lb.

I feel lighter this morning and clothes seem looser. Here's hoping that I've really gone down.

Off to Spain camping, not til August. I'm just musing as other lucky posters are going on holiday soon.

Extra complexity added to the mix with 1 vegetarian dd and 2 autistic ds's. I think meat, cheese, olives yogurt and salad will be the answer.

BIWI · 31/01/2024 13:00

@islandtiger seriously - you need to try and cut out the slimline tonic. If you're still STS, then it's worth trying to stop using them.

Forgot to mention an NSV Smile: I've been saying to dh that I must remember to wear a belt with my jeans are they're starting to fall down Grin This despite the fact that I'm wearing a permanent extra layer of relatively thick long johns, so that we don't need to put the heating on during the day Wink

I must try on my summer clothes for our trip in March - but as I went to South Africa in September and was actually a pound or two heavier than I am now Halo, they should be fine Grin My favourite skirt was a little tight at the waist though - so I'm hoping it will be looser Wink

Wonderful news on the recipe section. I I shall be trying that diet doctor chocolate cake recipe very soon, it sounds amazing!

Im going to see if I can STS this week before the next Bc. I always seem to be gaining weight or losing it and never be in equilibrium so it will be as useful experiment. Thanks to everyone especially Biwi for the support on here.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 31/01/2024 20:31

The Diet Doctor LC choc cake was amazing, it wasn't very sweet but lovely and rich. And basically just chocolate, eggs and butter and only 6g carbs for a slice. I served it with clotted cream and a few raspberries which worked perfectly and I am a very happy camper right now.

Great news on the recipe thread- please can I request that incredible diet doctor choc cake as one of the early entries?!

PurpleWhirple · 31/01/2024 20:37

I've had the diet doctor chocolate cake before and it's delicious. Great news on the recipe thread!

LilianaVikavanovich · 31/01/2024 20:56

A NSV here too @prettybird sadly I have a funeral to attend next week , so tried on the dress I wore to DDs graduation 5 years ago ( a black patterned dress from Other Stories ) which I didn’t think was going to fit at all , it’s ummmm a little snug , but with a black jacket on top will be fine ( I’ll only be going to the church )

we’re going away tomorrow for a whole night , we need some holiday clothes , so we’re going to Cardiff ( hello John Lewis ) a cocktail will be drunk , but food will be mindfully eaten

I’m another one pleased about the recipe thread 👍

I've sent Becky the links to the 5 recipe threads, so hopefully that will be up and running soon. But I was wondering - is the Diet Doctor chocolate cake recipe already on the dessert thread? If not, we need to get it on there, as it sounds lush!
