Jan '24 Dry Bootcamp - our last week

BIWI · 22/01/2024 10:49

Morning all. Hope Storm Isha didn't do any/too much damage.

Here's the spreadsheet - hopefully fixed now!

Although this started out as a 4-week challenge, I realise of course, that January is the never-ending month, so we'll continue right to the bitter end, which will be a week on Wednesday!

Don't panic though - I will be starting another one for February, only this time it doesn't have to be a dry one.

I'll start the next one 'afresh' so it gives other people a chance to join us, which means that (if you want to) the first two weeks will be the usual strict Bootcamp. If you're happy on Bootcamp Light, or you simply want to be able to have a drink (!), then it's entirely up to you.

So thinking about our last ten days - what do you realistically want to be able to achieve? I'm still hoping to get the scales to start with 9 rather than 10, but that does mean I'm going to have to be super strict, as that leaves me with 3.25 lbs to lose. I have two meals out before the end of the month, but they're both in places I know I can make good choices, and I'm finding it easier to forgo the alcohol too, so I'm not too worried about those.

For me, then, it's a weight challenge - but it doesn't have to be weight. It could be a specific item of clothing (thinking about those of us who have holidays coming up), or your measurements, or anything else that you think you can work towards over the next ten days.

@BIWI sorry, I have indeed dropped off the wagon. No excuses, I'm just being a bit crap at the moment. I keep trying to start again each day but then blowing it and I honestly don't know why, except a tendency to self sabotage.

I don't think I'd better weigh in because seeing any gain makes me worse. I will try again tomorrow (it being Monday)

Thesoundofmusic23 · 28/01/2024 18:08

Thanks @biwi I’m terrible at anything that requires counting etc so never really ‘diet’ I love this WOE because your rules are so clear and easy to follow and the food is delicious and satiating - been a revelation for me. I have however fallen off this weekend owing to a multi big birthday weekend away. I will be keeping on it again this month though so hopefully can rebalance and start loosing again.

bluesupermoon · 28/01/2024 18:20

Well done everyone! Am in for Feb too. Thank you for all the support!

Gingerwarthog · 28/01/2024 18:24

No loss for me - but at goal weight so this is ok.
Went away with my husband this weekend - it's a big one - so suspended Dry January but made good food choices (chicken and veg, omelettes, ice cream and not cake for dessert etc) and managed several long hikes.
Stomach flat.

EffortlessDistraction · 28/01/2024 20:22

I’m in for Feb. This has been a difficult month for various reasons and I haven’t stuck to the WOE all the time, but I am 5lb down from the start of Jan according to my own records (I only do the calculation for the spreadsheet once a week) but have been fluctuating quite a bit. I take heart from two things - I have stayed off the booze completely, I’m not a big drinker but there have been times this month when I’ve wanted a drink (I’ve only had one or two diet cokes and 0% beers too). Also I haven’t done what I used to do and go “wah, I can’t do this it’s too hard” and quietly drop off the threads. I know when I’m deviating but also know that I can do it and that it works when I do, even when I am deviating its nowhere near as badly as in the old days.

I would like to get down another 5lb then I will be exactly halfway to my long term goal since starting 18 months ago.

PurpleWhirple · 28/01/2024 20:23

I haven't weighed yet but not expecting a loss given what I've seen this week and the huge number of alcoholic drinks I consumed on Friday and Saturday 😳

Managed to keep the food bootcamp compliant so maybe the booze won't have done too much damage. We will see tomorrow. I'm also up for carrying on into February so thank you to BiWI and prettybird for continuing to run this. I'm very grateful for such a supportive gang.

Zwifter · 28/01/2024 21:04

Woo hoo, I didn’t realise I’d lost so much! Thank you and well done to everyone. I’ve not had a great week and am expecting a gain tomorrow - I had surgery on Monday and have felt tired and rubbish, mostly from the GA I think. People have been dropping in with treats which have been very well meaning but not at all BC friendly. I managed to swerve most of them. The best offering was from one of our neighbouring farmers who called in with lamb chops and some fatty mince, happy days! I’ve been drinking lots of peppermint tea to fight the bloat but still feel like Aunt Petunia. And I’m grumpy cos I can’t go to the gym or go on my bike.

I’m planning to keep up with BC and sashay into the Feb boot camp deflated (if I don’t blow away). Well done everyone and KOKO :-)

Metabolicallycomplicated · 29/01/2024 07:14

Well no loss for me this week meaning my loss overall on boot camp is 10lbs :) I’m very happy with that!

SpinningTops · 29/01/2024 07:19

I've stayed the same this week. Total loss 4lb which I'm happy with. Trousers fit again and definitely look better!

AllTheBlackCoffee · 29/01/2024 07:22

2.4lb off this week bringing me to a total of 9lb for this BC. Carrying on as normal though, with the aim of getting to 13st by half term (19 Feb for us). So that's 5lbs, which I really hope is doable.

Got a bit of a challenge later as off to a birthday party, first time this year I've really been faced with difficult choices. I know I'll be fine, but there's always a chance of a moment of fuckit that ruins everything. I'll keep my wits about me and stay strong.

blackteaplease · 29/01/2024 07:41

Urgh a self inflicted gain this week, carb creep, fuckits, lack of sleep and teenagers have meant I've made some pretty poor choices since Friday. Still a 6lb loss this bootcamp though.

Back on it today. One blip doesn't mean a full derail.

Jollyholibobs · 29/01/2024 08:05

No gain this week despite a 3 day trip to France this weekend. Bit of carb creep there but overall stuck with it. So 7.4 lb loss this bc which I am very pleased with. Thanks to this lovely community and to @BIWI @FinallyHere and @prettybird for running it. I want to continue for February.
well done everyone.

PurpleWhirple · 29/01/2024 08:19

Well I'm finishing with a small loss this week, coming to 9lbs over bootcamp. I was hoping for more, but given that a new set of scales increased my weight by 6lbs halfway through bootcamp I'm going to claim this as a win and consider that I have basically met my target to lose a stone in January.

Managed to lose this week despite a boozy weekend away with pals where I drank far more than I had intended. Going to try to carry on limiting the alcohol during February as I've really enjoyed the sleep benefits and it makes it easier to stick to the food rules

mimosa1 · 29/01/2024 08:21

Morning all,

I've just snuck into the 70s at 79.7kg and I'm really pleased with that. I can't say I can see any difference in my face or clothes but I'm operating under the kitchen roll principle. The first few sheets of paper removed don't seem to change the thickness of the rolls but later on, it becomes very noticeable. At least I hope so! I'm certainly still feeling well padded Wink

I am definitely up for a feb BC though I will be away skiing for a week in Feb which will be difficult.

I've got an early morning flight this morning and I always used to "reward" myself with a bacon roll with ketchup at the airport. I've brought a SLC roll in my hand luggage and will still have it but without the ciabatta. Feeling quite smug! (Now just need to eat it without ruining my smart work outfit...)

I like the idea of another focused 4 weeks. My goal will be to get to under 77.5 kg, bringing me closer to overweight than obese in the BMI stakes.

poorbuthappy · 29/01/2024 08:22

Lost a pound this week.
Wondering if I can squeeze another pound by Wednesday 😂

Lost 10lb to today
Very happy and will be carrying on!

FinallyHere · 29/01/2024 08:23

@blackteaplease I like your 'one blip does not mean a full derail' At a friends 75th birthday party on Saturday (how did my friends all get so old ....) I had every intention of skipping the pudding as usual until a seriously great looking home made by brilliant pastry chef Black Forest cherry gateaux appeared.

Instead I had one mindful small slice (I was serving it so made fine sure mine was small) throughly enjoyed it and then did not have chocolates or creme with my coffee, as is usual for me on Sat & Sunday.

Hoping this is a whole new world of occasional indulgences which do not throw me off kilter. For ages one slip and I fell completely off the waggon, here's hoping this time will be different.

Blush, Thank you very kindly @Jollyholibobs

AllTheBlackCoffee · 29/01/2024 08:28

Loving the kitchen roll principle @mimosa1 I might have to borrow that one Grin

blackteaplease · 29/01/2024 08:38

Another vote for the kitchen roll analogy, it's perfect

WitchWand · 29/01/2024 08:58

Great comparing shedding our layers to the kitchen roll. A little layer of kitchen roll doesn't look as though it's going to make much of a difference to the overall size. But, a bit at a time it does !
Well done to everyone who's stuck to Bootcamp this time round. I hope you're satisfied with the changes you've made. As for myself, I am. 9 pounds off. And really enjoying seeing the pounds go whilst I'm hardly feeling hungry at all!
So, definitely on board for February Bootcamp. Thanks a lot @BIWI for your on-going support and for sharing your motivation. It makes a big difference.😀

cathyandclaire · 29/01/2024 09:13

I'm weighing in late this week, not at home today so holding on and hoping for some loss tomorrow/weds now I'm off the flu meds!

Some great losses and excellent self control from boot campers. I think choosing and eating mindfully instead of fuckiting and diving into cake is a huge win.

bluesupermoon · 29/01/2024 09:21

Small loss here this week, total of 2lbs for this bootcamp which I am happy with. Also feeling much more toned from all the running and yoga, and more energetic. And almost 2 st down from Jan last year, which was the beginning of low carbing for me. Looking forward to continuing!

bluesupermoon · 29/01/2024 09:23

Not sure if the Feb bootcamp is dry or not (no judgment here either way) but for those interested, This Naked Mind by Annie Grace is a great read and really helped me with giving up alcohol/understanding all the many associations and triggers I had created with it. Lots of similarities with carb cravings and rewards for me.

lurknolinger · 29/01/2024 09:28

I Love the kitchen roll idea too!

4lbs off for me this week (full
disclosure I lost 1lb last week but had seen a lower weight but had bounced up a bit, so part of this 4 lbs is from the week before) but still over the moon with that.
Total of 13lbs so far - would love to round that off with another lb to bring to the stone marker for this BC but that might be a stretch!

I'm also away this weekend so am going to have a super strict week and also be mindful about the choices I make when I'm away.

I'm another one grateful for the support of this group, and will definitely be signing up for the February one!

EffortlessDistraction · 29/01/2024 09:31

I'm another who can now do the "one blip does not mean completely falling off the wagon thing now". Every day is a fresh start, no more "oh it's my birthday next week, won't bother starting till after that".

I am down a lb this week. But I'm going to come off the spreadsheet for Feb as I use my own records (stones/lbs been logging them on Fitbit for 10 years) and find it a bit tricky having to convert to lb every Monday, also it's fiddly to use on my phone and I worry about accidentally over-writing someone else.

TheOnlyMrsW · 29/01/2024 09:41

STS this week which I'm grateful for as there has been wine - no real excuse other than stressed and upset DD + stressed and upset DH + too much other life = fuckits!!!! Well behaved foodwise even with pizza, lasagna and chips for the carbies over the weekend and the extra upheaval of MIL visiting, A couple of days for that elusive lb to drop to make half a stone but I'm fairly ok if it doesn't - I'm over a stone lighter than this time last year, a dress size down and tummy grumbles are virtually non-existent.

I've found whilst in-between BC that I can either have some carbs or alcohol and maintain weight as long as water is there too but not both!!!!
I will be in for the Feb bootcamp, off to our first festival of the year at the weekend so won't be able to weigh until Tuesday, thanks BIWI and prettybird for volunteering...........
