Jan '24 Dry Bootcamp - our last week

BIWI · 22/01/2024 10:49

Morning all. Hope Storm Isha didn't do any/too much damage.

Here's the spreadsheet - hopefully fixed now!

Although this started out as a 4-week challenge, I realise of course, that January is the never-ending month, so we'll continue right to the bitter end, which will be a week on Wednesday!

Don't panic though - I will be starting another one for February, only this time it doesn't have to be a dry one.

I'll start the next one 'afresh' so it gives other people a chance to join us, which means that (if you want to) the first two weeks will be the usual strict Bootcamp. If you're happy on Bootcamp Light, or you simply want to be able to have a drink (!), then it's entirely up to you.

So thinking about our last ten days - what do you realistically want to be able to achieve? I'm still hoping to get the scales to start with 9 rather than 10, but that does mean I'm going to have to be super strict, as that leaves me with 3.25 lbs to lose. I have two meals out before the end of the month, but they're both in places I know I can make good choices, and I'm finding it easier to forgo the alcohol too, so I'm not too worried about those.

For me, then, it's a weight challenge - but it doesn't have to be weight. It could be a specific item of clothing (thinking about those of us who have holidays coming up), or your measurements, or anything else that you think you can work towards over the next ten days.

@potas im daily weigher too and i often see a tick up before a woosh - no idea why, could be water retention before the fat cells explode and get peed out. I am clearly not a scientist but that's what I tell myself ;)

@biwi am I right that the 31st is the final weigh in day or is it tomorrow? Either way huge thanks for this BC. The fasting really seems to have cracked for me this time - nothing wild but not eating after dinner, which is usually early with the kids anyway, then waiting to get into work to have breakfast means that I'm easily doing 14hr fasts without it being a big deal (unless you count the cals in black coffee ;-)) I think it something I'll be able to keep up long term which I'm pleased about.

pinknsparkly · 28/01/2024 13:12

Does anyone have a recommended recipe for a single person sized pizza base/naan/flatbread, using only the ingredients ground almonds, eggs, cheddar, grated mozzarella, baking powder, olive oil or butter? The recipes I'm finding online require coconut flour, cream cheese or xantham gum, none of which I have in the house! 3 year old wants to do home made pizza for tea and I'd like to participate if possible 😁

BIWI · 28/01/2024 14:20

@LowCarbingIn2024 (and @mimosa1) we haven't finished yet!

There are still three days left, after today, before we get to the end of January. so still time to shed a few more ounces Grin

OP posts:
venusandmars · 28/01/2024 14:29

@pinknsparkly would this one work?

There's a lot of left over chicken here, had chicken and mayo salad for lunch, and later this week we'll have chicken curry and probably some kind of thai chicken. And there's soup on the go in the slow cooker.

LowCarbingIn2024 · 28/01/2024 14:51

Noted @BIWI

I'm doing a 6-week detox anyway, so the end date of this BC isn't significant to me.

We're having the leeks with haloumi and lime tonight.
The recipe on here is just a screenshot of a message.
Does anyone have more detailed instructions? (Eg... It says softened leeks. Does that mean fried?)

Almahart · 28/01/2024 15:09

Hallo @LowCarbingIn2024 , I can't remember where I got the recipe from, it was decades ago. Here are more detailed instructions, I'll post it on the veggie recipe thread too.

Leeks and halloumi, with lime

Soften a large leek in olive oil, until it has begun to go soft and caramelise
At the same time, griddle or fry a sliced pack of halloumi until it is a bit crispy
Mix the two together, squeeze lime juice over (prob half a lime) and add cumin seeds according to taste, I think I usually put a teaspoon or so on.

As I said on the bootcamp thread it's greater than the sum of its parts the perfect combo of sweet and salty.

Almahart · 28/01/2024 15:11

Went out for a Korean meal for DS1's birthday and completely fell off the wagon today. I don't usually do that, but really had a fuck it day.

Back on the wagon again, and planning to koko indefinitely.

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/01/2024 15:20

Everyone else in the house has fallen off their various wagons (alcohol and sugar respectively) except me. I therefore had a case of the LC fuckits (sausages, pork belly, delicious buttery things) and three meals when I should have had two for a couple of days. Woke up today, no change. Feel fine, no gain. I have no idea how it works but I'm happy.

I used to run three times a week with a group. Gave up during the pandemic and never started again. Until yesterday. First proper run for YEARS. Well, run/walk. So maybe that had a bit to do with the appetite increase.

Thanks so much to everyone. I don't post a lot, or keep up! But this WOE has completely changed my life. Which sounds like hyperbole but it has. The main changes aren't weight. It's the craving/addiction to carbs and the IBS. Both gone. Both have been awful since my teens. Thanks all!

BIWI · 28/01/2024 15:30

I'll be starting the next Bootcamp on Monday 5 February. Always good to start new things on a Monday I thinkSmile

The ever-lovely @FinallyHere has our spreadsheet continuing on from the end of this short Bootcamp challenge, so I propose we just use this one rather than start a new one.

So if you don't want to carry on, let me know, and I'll move your name down to the bottom of the spreadsheet from then (so we can keep all the January and February Bootcampers together)

And also, I'm only planning on running it for 4 weeks again as, very selfishly, Grin I'm off on holiday on 5 March. If anyone would like to volunteer to run it after I'm away, please shout - otherwise I'll keep it as a 4-week challenge.

BIWI · 28/01/2024 15:38

Just looking at the spreadsheet, there are some amazing losses already! Three posters who have almost lost a stone, which is fantastic in this short period.

So Flowers to @CharlieHadAPigeon, @Thesoundofmusic23 and @Zwifter

(I know this isn't a competition, but it is so rewarding to see people losing so successfully)

cathyandclaire · 28/01/2024 15:44

Another 4 weeks sounds great thanks BIWI. I'm in Miami for 6 days from Thursday, so this will keep me on track ( although I may have some wine!)

I'm just crawling out of my viral stupor, have kept to BC apart from mainlining sugar-free lozenges and night nurse.

The sweeteners/ sugar in the meds have resulted in my weight wobbling around - I've been gaining and losing the same pound- so unlikely to reach target this week. I will look forward and aim to lose another 4lb by March, making 9lb in total.

cathyandclaire · 28/01/2024 15:45

Just seen The last post - way to go to @CharlieHadAPigeon, @Thesoundofmusic23 and @Zwifter

Saltysausage · 28/01/2024 15:47

I tried a couple of times last week to enter my weight but the spreadsheet wasn’t working properly. Have entered now.

I have lost slightly more than I thought which is great.
LC really has made me feel so much more energetic, impressed with the improvements in such a short space of time.
I’m looking forward to continuing.

pinknsparkly · 28/01/2024 15:54

@venusandmars thanks for the naan suggestion. I'll give that a go!

@BIWI - I am still here. I was struggling with motivation and getting despondent by the constant increase in weight, so I didn't want to add it to the spreadsheet. But I asked finallyhere to unhide me as I've found my focus again this week so will add to the spreadsheet on Monday. I'm also in for a Frbruary bootcamp continuation!

Leedsmum27 · 28/01/2024 16:05

@BIWI. I’ve added in my weights including todays rather than wait for the morning .

slow and steady progress here and still in the zone. Managed two meals out this weekend (Turkish and Vietnamese… avoiding the bread and noodles as appropriate!!)

have bought some blueberries as missing fruit and both DH and I full of cold this weekend . But otherwise definitely feel
more energetic and positive about the way forwards.

Thanks for all the support from the forum, I’m a long time viewer but never taken part before. It really makes a difference :)

BIWI · 28/01/2024 16:06

It definitely does! It's all about commitment and accountability. And I'm very glad it's working for you.

(And I have to ask you, as an ex-Leeds girl, are you really a Leeds mum?!)

OP posts:
prettybird · 28/01/2024 16:13

@BIWI - I'm happy to continue the Boot Camp Smile

I'm off on holiday myself on 11 March but only for a week - plus we only fly at 9.30am, so I'll be able to get that week started, plus check it during the week as we're in the EU, so in addition to hotel WiFi, my data package (with Tesco) still works Grin

prettybird · 28/01/2024 16:15

(And it will also keep me accountable during that week Grin barring a pastel del nata or two Wink)

AIBConsiderate · 28/01/2024 16:38

The cold has started to alleviate but I've now been absolutely wiped out by migraine, I can't believe my bad luck. Have managed to stay BC compliant through it all, even after being offered the most beautiful looking Moroccan cakes earlier. Possibly I might have given in if I wasn't so close to losing a stone - won't happen by tomorrow but possibly by Thursday!

And now to put the screen down and retire back to my dark room.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 28/01/2024 16:49

I'm here for the Feb BC too, I think I like the idea of four week stints, seems much more manageable. We're away for feb half term but only in this country and I'm going to take the scales so I can keep an eye on any losses/gains.

Baystard · 28/01/2024 17:16

I'll be here for February, and would like to be on the spreadsheet this time please. Smile

Have added leeks and halloumi to my online shop, thank you @Almahart sounds delicious.

Combining some sort of virus and a migraine today so feeling very sorry for myself but stayed on wagon. Spent the afternoon in bed and am contemplating whether to have supper or go back to bed for the night.

Thanks @Almahart
Sorry you're having a tough w/end.

Congratulations to @CharlieHadAPigeon, @Thesoundofmusic23 and@Zwifter

You're the BC winners, but congrats to EVERYONE who's had a loss

Please may I sign up for February @BIWI

Much more needs to be achieved from here

SpinningTops · 28/01/2024 17:42

I'm up for February too. I do have a long weekend away from 9th Feb where I'll be being cooked for so think I will just accept that I might not be boot camp compliant and enjoy my rare holiday. But I've been fully strict bootcamping for this month so think I can relax a little then.

Scales don't seem to be shifting this week, hopefully due to incoming period as have been eating well.

My clothes fit better and my stomach is less wobbly.

Thesoundofmusic23 · 28/01/2024 17:45

Thanks for the congratulations. Fearing the scales tomorrow after a celebratory weekend teetering on and off plan. Definitely in for the February one please as this is a long term goal and there’s more to loose.
