For one month only - 4 weeks of strict Bootcamp, which means no booze.

If you want to, you can do Bootcamp Light, but with the exception of no alcohol.

All welcome! But please, only sign up if you are prepared to do the whole thing without alcohol.

@MarshmallowWorld I did it in the microwave. Pricked it all over with a fork, zapped it for 7 mins in a 900W microwave, turned it over and then did another 3 mins on the other side. I left the stalk on for the cooking as it cooks by internally steaming itself

MarshmallowWorld · 03/01/2024 20:50

Thanks I'll be doing this!

PurpleWhirple · 03/01/2024 21:12

Evening all, I'm impressing myself tonight by sipping on ginger tea while the rest of the family tucks into the leftover quality street

BIWI's tea sounds like a much fancier version of what I had: slightly boiled leeks wrapped in a slice of ham then covered with cheese sauce (6 tbsp crème fraiche, 2 tbsp Dijon mustard, loads of grated cheese) and baked in the over. Served it with raw spinach and it was delicious and very satisfying.

Thanks for the info on saturated fats, I definitely do need to educate myself.

PurpleWhirple · 03/01/2024 21:13

I'm equal parts incredulous and revolted at the thought of a baked aubergine being a nice as a baked potato though Shock

Baystard · 03/01/2024 21:16

@pinknsparkly I might give this a go, thanks!

Today's summary:
2 cream with espresso
Breakfast: half boursin, 3 celery, 2 large ham slices
Lunch: 2 eggs, dollop butter, quarter spicy chorizo
Middle of day: 3 strawberries, 1 lindt ball, 3-4 semi milk in tea
Dinner: 1.5 chicken breast, 150g bag kale, chicken stock cube, dollop butter
Half gallon water

Total 1622 cals, 20g carbs

I need to move more...

First, why are you counting calories and carbs? We don't do that on Bootcamp.

And second - Lindt ball?!!! We don't eat any chocolate in the first two weeks of Bootcamp.

... and actually, even in the rest of Bootcamp that really wouldn't be allowed.

Have you read Bootcamp rules?

First day back at work and resisted the temptation of a left over advent calendar, fudge and 'emergency chocolate ration' (huge bar of Dairy Milk).
No wine this evening - drank Rooibos tea and ate a prawn with vegetable stir fry (no noodles).

Applerumleandcustard · 03/01/2024 21:45

Wednesday is usually my night for wine and a packet of cashew nuts , as DH is out , but not tonight.

sparkling water 👍

brunch , bacon , mushrooms and 2 eggs fried in olive oil and butter ( we went to the gym , and I can’t eat before that )
dinner baked sliced courgette with tomato, celariac , onion , then topped with cream and cheese ( I wanted spinach as well , but didn’t have any ) all grilled and bubbly on top , lovely

re leeks , I don’t boil mine , I just slice , wash them , then sauté them in butter , loads of sea salt and black pepper , pop a lid on they make enough liquid as they cook ( then in goes T he double cream Lemon juice and cheese )

On the go today, so a few rubbishy snacks/ meals. Kept low carb and drank lots but could have been much better nutritionally

cathyandclaire · 03/01/2024 22:16

Posted too soon:
Breakfast- egg, spinach and pepper bites
Snack lunch- pepperami and cheese bites 😳
Supper- open posh lamb kebab and salad with yoghurt dressing ( no flatbread)

Zwifter · 03/01/2024 22:57

I had a beef mince version of the stuffed pepper sloppy Joe’s tonight and they were delicious. The rest of the family had lasagne.

baked aubergine sounds great - I’m looking forward to trying that. I use aubergine as a quick and easy pizza base substitute - just slice it up into 5mm slices, roast slices with some oil and salt then flip them over and load up with pizza toppings. We tend to make pizzas from scratch so it’s another meal that I can make alongside the rest of the family with minimal extra faff.

I’ve not weighed yet but I’m definitely noticing a difference - I had to tighten up the strap on my watch today and my wedding ring feels looser so I’m starting the lose the ‘carb puff’!

Metabolicallycomplicated · 04/01/2024 06:45

I’ve got dry mouth which is usually my first proper sign I’m in ketosis so yay!

Todays plan is simple because I’m working from home and won’t get time to cook:

B: 16:8 + protein
L: leftover curry from the other day
D: Either left over stir fry or I might make the kebabs I didn’t make last night.

RooRooCooChoo · 04/01/2024 07:18

Was well behaved yesterday and followed the plan, although skipped breakfast. Was going to wait a while before beginning with IF, but since it’s happening already I’m going to embrace it.
Today I shall have
L: scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and broccoli
D: imam bayildi with halloumi and feta

Have a 3 hour exam this afternoon so going to hold back on the water today. Can’t be running to the loo the whole time!

Roundthebend45 · 04/01/2024 07:38

Did quite well yesterday but I think I ate too much - being at home working all day. I was quite bored and it is too easy to grab something eat from the fridge. All low carb, but too much.

I will reset today.
B: Greek yoghurt and splash of cream. Slice of ham.
L: left over chicken from last night with salad, avocado, cucumber, celery, tomato and EVOO.
D: I am making the kids sausage pasta, so will cook the broken up sausages, add the tomatos and reduce, add the spinach and then take some away for me before adding the pasta for them. I’ll have mine with half a baked aubergine and some broccoli or cabbage with cheese on top.
Lots of water!

Nestnearlyempty · 04/01/2024 07:39

woke up this morning with some energy for the first time that I can remember. Planning on FFGY for breakfast, got a busy late afternoon and evening so just got to plan lunch and dinner- likely to have a green juice or smoothie at some point.

What made you feel it was too much?

Roundthebend45 · 04/01/2024 08:59

@Metabolicallycomplicated i think that I did what I tend to do when I eat carbs which is finish my meal and then still feel hungry so look for something else to eat. I should have had some water and waited a bit. I can eat a lot, and added lots of fat to my food so it’s not that I wasn’t eating enough at meals. I think it’s a habit I have got into, especially over Christmas when there has been lots of things to graze on.

In the evening I felt very full and not comfortable - one of the things I love about this WOE is not having that feeling , but also not feeling hungry, so I think I just overdid it a bit.

LadyBird1973 · 04/01/2024 09:03

Good morning all.
Had a shocking start this week, not helped by it being totm and having had a headache for a week! Plus all the leftover Christmas food languishing in the house.

This morning I've binned the sheet soaked fruit Wensleydale, and the cherry brandy chocolates and banished the two unopened Christmas puds to the very back of a not easily accessible cupboard (these won't tempt me anyway as I'm not a huge fan).
I thought I could do this and just ignore the leftovers as I'd been so good in the run up to Christmas at ignoring all this food presence in the house, but 9 days of Christmas eating has really undone that ability. So back to the start for me and binning all temptation!

In good news, am not missing alcohol at all and I have been eating decent low carb meals - tuna and egg salads, beef and celeriac casseroles. It's just the sweets I've been struggling to eliminate. Still, they are in the bin now and I'm hopeful for a better 2nd half to this week!

You all are doing so well. I'm going to try the baked aubergine this week I think.

BIWI · 04/01/2024 09:17

Good luck with your exam @RooRooCooChoo!

mimosa1 · 04/01/2024 09:24

Morning all,
Gosh this thread moves quickly! I'm LOLing at boiled eggs being the devil's testicles. I love them but to each her own :)

Bfast today - Greek yoghurt w raspberries (I'm doing BC light)

Lunch - shakshuka

Dinner - turkey meatballs in tomato sauce with pasta for the kids and green veg for me

BIWI · 04/01/2024 09:25

Two important PSAs

First, although I've already alluded to this in a post upthread, I should have made my usual disclaimer at the start.

Bootcamp is run by Mumsnetters. Those who run the threads are not medics and are not qualified in nutrition or dietetics. Recommendations and support are based on our experiences and understanding of low carbing. Before starting, if you are on any kind of long-term medication (especially for hypertension, diabetes or high cholesterol), please check with your GP, as the results of low carbing can mean you may need to reduce your dosage. And if you’re pregnant or breast-feeding, we suggest you follow Bootcamp Light

... and secondly, good thread etiquette:

Please, please, please read the whole thread before posting. There's a lot of information posted on each thread, as well as in different posters' posts. It's galling, (not to say irritating!) when people post the same questions or post stuff which clearly indicates that they haven't read information that's been posted earlier in the thread.

I know that the thread can move very quickly, but if you use the bookmark function you can easily get to your place in the thread when you return to it.
