Summer 2023, the final weigh in & ongoing chat

I started, so I'll finish. Wink

I've agreed with the lovely @BIWI that I'll start this thread as I started the Boot Camp and I wanted to finish it. Smile

She's going to jump back in with her much bigger Big Stick Grin until I feel more up to it.

The lovely @FinallyHere will be along shortly with the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Thank to both of them for their support Flowers - and to you lot too! Flowers

I hope you've got what you wanted from this Boot Camp. We'll stay around here for chat and support until the next Boot Camp is organised. Smile

I started Boot Camp early myself in early June at 12st 12.75lb. Having got down to 12st 1.75lb, I then had a massive blip in July for various weird reasons Confused and sent back up to 12st 6lb ( above where I'd started on Week 1 of official Boot Camp Blush) but had got back to 12st 4lb 2 weeks ago.

Since then, I've dropped to 11st 12.75lb, so that's a whole stone. A bit drastic, but I'll take it as a minor positive Wink but for a sad reason Sad

I might manage to get under 11.5st before we go to South Africa next month Shock

@FinallyHere I know what you mean about the commitment. Unfortunately I can't wear it on another finger due to arthritis making my middle finger joints being very swollen with arthritis. A chain round my neck might be the answer.

Good luck with the exercise @prettybird

HappiDaze · 31/08/2023 09:15

I just had fried chicken and red cabbage for breakfast that's a first Grin

Delicious though and it was my planned meal for last night but I fell asleep very early

venusandmars · 31/08/2023 13:00

I really enjoy that what counts as a conventional breakfast gets challenged on this woe. When I'm not doing I/F I have all kinds of things - avocado and tomato, left-over curry from the previous night, sometimes soup. dh is still a cereal and toast person and raises his eyebrows Grin

L - coffee with cream; avocado, cheese, salad, mayonnaise
D - steak, green beans, crispy kale, oven roast radishes

Newlease · 01/09/2023 05:00

Just wanted to say hi, I am still on LC. I don’t think weight is coming off, but without jumping on the scale there is no tell. Clothes are loose and I managed to wear a size 10 denim coat that didn’t even go on my arm when I bought it in May! I think it’s week 7/8 for me as well. Had few difficulties during first two weeks of Aug. I didn’t stray at all 😅
stayed on low carb, but had very less nutritious food, loved on nuts and coffee had different sets of guests and couldn’t do anything for me while cooking for them a lot, LoD if yummy food that I normally eat, but didn’t even feel like trying some. So I think I am getting good at finally seeing this as woe rather than diet for 8 weeks!!
had too much coffee yesterday and now up since 2am 😳

EquallyDetermined · 01/09/2023 07:47

Morning all, I'd just like to sign back in as it were, I have been on holiday for the last couple of weeks.

Stats:
Started last BC at 14'6
Ended BC at 13'10.6 (fell off the wagon a bit in the middle weeks but back on by the end)
Returned from holiday at the weekend at 14'3
Now 14'1.4

But - this time last year i returned from holiday at almost 16 stone.

NSVs - I wore a bikini confidently on holiday, my BMI might still be high but I am much more toned and my waist is definitely back. Also there is not a single photo of me from the holiday where I think I look awful, such a difference to last year.

Apart from trying to make sure I ate 5 a day I wasn't too strict on holiday, we were in Italy so pizza, pasta, bread lots of alcohol. However I swerved sweet stuff for the most part and have got straight back to it on my return, that is a difference to the old days, normally I'd be in a downward spiral of unhealthy eating for weeks afterwards in a sod-it frame of mind.

prettybird · 01/09/2023 08:44

Congratulations on your mindsets @Newlease and @EquallyDetermined Flowers

I love your description of your body confidence @EquallyDetermined Smile

I hope I manage to get back from holiday in a similar frame of mind Grin ....one week from Tuesday before we go Shock

Hello all, just checking in. Food has been lacking in veg the last few days. Today was a steak burger and fried egg for brunch, low carb toast and smoked trout pate for dinner, and dark chocolate and pork crispy bites for snacks.
Did cheat a bit and bought a soya milk maple hazelnut latte from Costa. It was lovely but o feel very guilty.

Is anyone else finding their tolerance for alcohol has disappeared? Went on a date with dh yesterday and stopped for a glass of wine - it completely knocked me out!

Baystard · 02/09/2023 07:15

@LadyBird1973 yes I daren't even have one drink at a work function anymore as I'd be too likely to make a tit of myself Grin

LadyBird1973 · 02/09/2023 08:13

@Baystard I guess Christmas will be cheaper then, as I won't be drowning myself in a barrel of baileys Grin

TheOnlyMrsW · 02/09/2023 08:21

@LadyBird1973 me three on the alcohol, 2 glasses of wine last night and feel horrendous!!!!! Possibly something to do with the Chinese takeaway as well, I don't get on at all with anything processed or fried now either.....
Have been bad for eating this week, visitors and DC working all hours has meant easy meals for them and snacking for me (mainly BC friendly but few proper meals). Back to school next week, meal plan is done and hopefully routine will be good for us all 😊. Beautiful weekend forecast here so off blackberrying and looking for conkers to help with our eight-legged friends!!!!

HappiDaze · 02/09/2023 08:48

We also had a takeaway last night it was Korean Sweet chilli chicken and rice with a tiny spring roll each and some free dumplings. We were absolutely bursting at the Seams afterwards.

I just needed something different to eat that I didn't have to cook.

HappiDaze · 02/09/2023 10:18

I've just tried on a pile of my jeans and quite a few now fit me that haven't for a while

I think this means my legs have definitely lost weight even though it's doesn't seem like my waist has but obviously it has a little only not quite a much

I'll have to do sit ups and crunches and walk more

BIWI · 02/09/2023 10:20

I'll have to do sit ups and crunches and walk more

... or stop eating the rice and spring rolls!

HappiDaze · 02/09/2023 11:07

Well yes there is that @BIWI Blush

LadyBird1973 · 02/09/2023 11:47

I'm back on it now. I did find some lovely seed crackers in Waitrose (in the free from section) that have been very useful for fulfilling that need for crunch. Bloody DS has eaten them though and just left me 2.
Deliberately didn't buy any red wine, not least to avoid the need for a 3 hour nap after one glass.
I keep losing and regaining the same lb, annoyingly, so have to get a bit strict again to give myself a push.
Looking forward to the new bootcamp - I think I do much better with more accountability.

venusandmars · 02/09/2023 15:17

I am also in the mood for Chinese food. So tonight I'm making ginger crispy beef with red peppers; chicken and mushroom with macademia nuts (so much lower in carb than cashews); sesame prawns on egg tortilla; all served with pack choi, crispy kale and baby sweet corn. I don't think I'll even need the egg-fried cauli rice.

Lucienandjean · 02/09/2023 20:06

I made some amazing (though I say so myself) lamb kebabs tonight. Lamb mince, shallots, cumin, chilli and seasoning. Really really easy. Served with lots of salad, avocado, and sour cream.

Rayna37 · 03/09/2023 07:41

Just rudely jumping in for advice, and so sorry to hear about your Dad @prettybird a real part of the bootcamp family Flowers

Maintaining sloppily as ever, disappointed to not have lost the perennial half stone before my imminent Lycra-clad challenge!

I have just bought a cheapo waffle maker as a treat for DS and after enjoying savoury ones in France this summer. Has anyone perfected a Chaffle recipe? Mg pan doesn't look very big, I can see various quantity/ratio suggestions for egg and grated mozzarella. Also other ingredients? Any recommendations for ground almonds, ground flax seed, what works best?!

BIWI · 03/09/2023 09:31

There's a recipe for waffles in one of Monya Killian-Palmer's books @Rayna37 - let me see if I can find it. From memory it uses ground almonds.

BIWI · 03/09/2023 09:45

Here you go:

Savoury Waffles – a recipe by Monya Kilian Palmer (Lazy Keto Kitchen)

Waffles do not always need to be sweet! Thee are made using a flavoured cream cheese, but the best part is that you can have some fun with your toppings. This recipe makes two waffles (in my waffle maker), and the macros shown are per waffle, excluding any toppings.

Ingredients:

4 large eggs
110g (3¾ oz) flavoured cream cheese
25g (1oz) almond flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Toppings/garnishings of your choice

Method

Whisk together the eggs and cream cheese in a bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the almond flour and baking powder. Add this dry mix to the eggs and whisk very well to create a smooth batter with no lumps. Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Grease and preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions, then pour in the batter and cook until done.

Opening the waffle maker too soon can ruin them; I always open mine about 1 minute after it tells me they are ready. Remove the waffles and enjoy. You could simply serve with melted butter and a scattering of salt flakes or herbs, but I love them with mozzarella and prosciutto. You could also try avocado and ham, or crispy bacon and no-added-sugar ketchup.

Macros (per waffle)

Calories 310
Carbs 5.5g
Protein 21g
Fat 22g

I've never tried these, but they sound great! I suppose you could also make them sweet if you wanted to - obviously with something like erythritol.

OldandTired66 · 04/09/2023 10:34

A small gain since last week but includes 3 days in Devon, mostly eating out in cafes and restaurants so not too bad. I did briefly flirt with under 14 stone just before I left so good to know I can get there! Waffle recipe looks great. I did wonder if the cheese muffin recipe would work if made a bit more batter-y with an extra egg or greek yoghurt. Now to focus on next weeks fresh start bootcamp.

BIWI · 04/09/2023 12:22

Just bear in mind that those waffles won't be allowed in the first two weeks of Bootcamp!

HappiDaze · 04/09/2023 16:52

Goulash, fried cabbage and a glass of Rose

Ihavehadenoughalready · 05/09/2023 02:47

Hello All.

I have been thinking I should join a support group. I found last month that my HgbA1C was in the prediabetic category and it scared me so much I went completely lo carb almost immediately. I weighed in at the clinic at 202 lbs about a month ago. I was surprised it wasn't more, as I was basically eating whatever all day long. So, to kill two birds with one stone, lo carb is both to lose weight and to lower my A1C. It seems to working so far, as weighing myself at home shows steady progress and this morning's weight was 187.1.

Two questions. One, I'm American, are we good with lbs or do I need to convert to stone. Two, may I join the next "boot camp"? How does it work?

prettybird · 05/09/2023 09:01

Of course you can join in @Ihavehadenoughalready Smile Welcome Flowers

There's a sign up thread going for a new Boot Camp, which starts next week - I'm on the app so can't link to it easily, so either scroll on up or search for it in the topic (@BIWI will have linked to it/started it).

Weighing in pound is absolutely fine - in fact we have to convert to pounds for the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness Grin
