Summer 2023, the final weigh in & ongoing chat

prettybird · 14/08/2023 08:39

I started, so I'll finish. Wink

I've agreed with the lovely @BIWI that I'll start this thread as I started the Boot Camp and I wanted to finish it. Smile

She's going to jump back in with her much bigger Big Stick Grin until I feel more up to it.

The lovely @FinallyHere will be along shortly with the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Thank to both of them for their support Flowers - and to you lot too! Flowers

I hope you've got what you wanted from this Boot Camp. We'll stay around here for chat and support until the next Boot Camp is organised. Smile

I started Boot Camp early myself in early June at 12st 12.75lb. Having got down to 12st 1.75lb, I then had a massive blip in July for various weird reasons Confused and sent back up to 12st 6lb ( above where I'd started on Week 1 of official Boot Camp Blush) but had got back to 12st 4lb 2 weeks ago.

Since then, I've dropped to 11st 12.75lb, so that's a whole stone. A bit drastic, but I'll take it as a minor positive Wink but for a sad reason Sad

I might manage to get under 11.5st before we go to South Africa next month Shock

Hello lovely bootcampers, a link to the latest [[https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-rBSRgexwWV_BIF6-nakA6U9buIFsgl2XU8tdYG5xOM/edit?usp=sharing Spreadsheet of Fabulousness SofF] for anyone interested.

It took me a while to investigate further than the weigh-in tab, there really is a lot of very useful information to be found on the other tabs, making it all definitely worth a visit.

I'm one of those whose experience with LCBC has been entirely positive, once i got my head around just how different it is from the more usual 'healthy eating' guidelines. The less sugar I eat, the happier I am: clearer skin, less brain fog, no mid-afternoon or post meal 'slump', generally feeling happy with my food and lifestyle choices. Very happy to have others around here to continue the chat.

Good morning all.
Monday comes around far too quickly!
Down half a pound today, which is a bit rubbish as I've been good all weekend (no booze).
Still, it's better than going in the other direction!
Am going to be doing lots of walking today, so hopefully will burn some calories.

Hope you all are doing okay and have good weigh ins.

cardboardbox24 · 21/08/2023 08:40

Morning! Down 1.2 lbs this week (although when I added it to the Koko spreadsheet it says 3.8 for some reason). I know I should be pleased with any loss but have been feeling a bit low about my body shape these past couple of days. Just feel really flabby and unattractive! 1 more stone to go....

OldandTired66 · 21/08/2023 09:32

So sorry to hear about your MIL, @venusandmars. Just over a pound this week so happy with that. Busy week with 3 meals out this week so need to plan in advance and not undo my progress. I now have mini muffin cases in stock so will be trying the cheese muffins for snackage purposes. KOKO everyone.

cardboardbox24 · 21/08/2023 10:53

@OldandTired66 ooh what is the cheese muffin recipe?!

dandeliondaisy · 21/08/2023 11:03

@prettybird thanks so much. Such great info. I've downloaded the rules and I'm one day in. I managed 25g of carbs! When will keto kick in?

prettybird · 21/08/2023 11:19

@dandeliondaisy - congratulations on getting started Flowers. However one of the great things about this WoE is that you don't need to count carbs Shock

As long as you are following The Rules, they will be naturally low Grin

That's why we don't give a target amount for you to eat. This is not a No Carb diet, it's a Low carb diet. The majority of your carbs will come from the FLGV (Fuck Load of Green/Good Veg) you should be eating Smile

Your body will become ketogenically adapted within a few days. That's part of why you may see the initial "whoosh" on the scales, as your body releases the water from its cells that it's been using to process those carbs. You may or may not experience "carb flu" as it happens - not everyone does.

One of the reasons we don't recommend Ketostix is that if you're drinking enough water (as per The Rules), your pee should be dilute enough that they don't really change colour.

welcome @dandeliondaisy to boot camp & the high fat, low carb lifestyle.

Completely understand your interest in knowing when you will be 'switched over' My recollection (it was a few years ago for me) was that the first few days of eating this way, all i could think of was to eat more sweet stuff. My monkey brain jumped from chocolate to toffees to gummi sweets and then even on to sweets that I don't even like eating. I just kept drinking all the water and held the line of FLGV with fatty cuts of meat (lamb chops delicious) and some creme, butter and cheese.

One morning i woke up bright and early, didn't feel hungry, didn't have that background desire to eat sweet stuff going on at all. A revelation for me. IM sure it takes different number of days for everyone, probably less than the first two ultra strict weeks of bootcamp.

Its a reminder to only eat when you are hungry, rather than because its time to eat. Burning your fat reserves will keep your blood sugar steady and you wont have those swings. Its all good.

OldandTired66 · 21/08/2023 12:42

@cardboardbox24 Cheese muffin recipe - I think it was @BIWI originally.

Cheese muffins (only on Bootcamp Light)

Makes approximately 9 standard sized muffins; I made 24 mini ones (with enough left over to make 1 large one!)

Ingredients
100g ground almonds
30g very cold butter this is important - it’s the shock of cold ingredients going into the hot oven that makes the muffins rise well.
3 medium eggs, chilled
1 generous tsp baking powder (or 1 sachet, if this is how you buy them)
90g grated cheese
Oregano or chives, either fresh or dried
Black pepper
Smoked paprika

Method

• Preheat oven to 200C. N.B. it’s the shock of cold ingredients going into the hot oven that makes the muffins rise well.

  1. Grease a silicone muffin tray and/or use paper muffin cases in a metal tin.
  2. Mix the almond flour and butter.
  3. Add the eggs, baking powder, herbs, pepper and paprika then mix.
  4. Mix in the cheese.
  5. Spoon into the muffin tray/cases.
  6. Bake for 14-16 minutes (12-14 minutes for smaller ones) - just keep checking that they're cooked but not burning.
  7. Wait until cooled to remove from paper cases or they’ll come out of a silicone muffin tray straight away.
cardboardbox24 · 21/08/2023 12:50

@OldandTired66 thank you!

venusandmars · 21/08/2023 19:06

On the cheese and almond muffins... I thought the first version had 60g of cheese, now it's 90g - cheese creep Grin I'm glad becuase I put in loads more cheese than 60g anyway

venusandmars · 21/08/2023 19:07

MIL died late this afternoon, very peacefully, with family. After an unhappy few months it was a good end to 93 years of life.

TheOnlyMrsW · 21/08/2023 19:47

@venusandmars so very sorry to hear that Flowers

FinallyHere · 21/08/2023 20:01

Sorry to hear your news @venusandmars

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but has anyone purchased bread from the low-carb food company? The carb count is so low!

Baystard · 22/08/2023 07:24

Sorry to hear your news @venusandmars Flowers

My hormones have been all over the place since the beginning of this month and it's making me struggle to find the off switch once I start eating. I know they'll eventually settle though so I'm just trying to limit the damage until then.

Starting another attempt at strict bootcamp until the end of the week so unfortunately the cheese muffins are out at the moment, but they are marvellous (made and ate an entire batch last week Blush).

venusandmars · 22/08/2023 07:50

@cardboardbox24 I have once or twice, but I didn't really find them very satisfying - a bit insubstantial and tasteless. Others really like it for when you need toast under your poached egg. They go mouldy quite quickly so I think the general advice is to freeze them, also that way you can have the occasional slice rather than making it part of your everyday diet.

I prefer Schneiderbrot protein bread just under 4g protein per slice. It is dense and dark, a bit more like a rye bread, plus I can get it in my local Asda, and it keeps for weeks unopened, and for a couple of weeks opened in the fridge.

My food yesterday was shamefull - and dinner was nothing but a shared bottle of wine. I'm spending today with my daughter so a little out of my control, but I'm starting the day with a boiled egg, there's green veg soup out of the freezer for later, with some cheese (and biscuits for dh) with celery and walnuts.

I buy my low carb bread from Srsly Low Carb

It's expensive, compared with 'normal' bread, but I like it for the occasional sandwich. I keep it in the freezer.

They also make bread rolls, but they're just a little too big for me.

The SRSLY Low Carb Loaf

Following a low carb diet ? Craving bread? Don't worry - us too! That's why we've made the Seriously Low Carb Loaf, with only 5.3g Carbs per 100g.

BIWI · 22/08/2023 11:52

Oh, and their Mediterranean wraps are very good too.

OldandTired66 · 23/08/2023 14:34

Condolences @venusandmars, sorry to hear your sad news 💐.

venusandmars · 24/08/2023 12:35

With all the 'stuff' of the last week, I've got way behind on my veg box - had to throw out (onto the compost) some carrots that had gone 'bendy' and I hate food waste. So today I'm having a lovely day cooking and food planning.

Tonight will be lamb keema curry made with ginger, garlic, shallot, tomato, grated yellow courgette and a little bit of grated carrot. Served with cucumber and kohl rabbi slaw, and green courgette spiced fritters. (and there will be left-overs from all of these for another day).

There's some squash, onion, peppers, roasting in the oven, to have cold tomorrow with fried halloumi, salad leaves and some toasted walnuts and pine nuts (I know these are a bit too carby) and a nice salad dressing.

A batch of cheese and almond muffins to use up the eggs (and because they are delicious)

There were also some lovely beetroot - which again are very carby, but I have them very occasionally because they are so good for you in other ways. I've made Hugh F-W's beetroot and nut butter blitz. It's got lime juice, tamari, and fresh corriander in it. A little goes a long way on salad leaves or as a dip for celery, and it freezes well too.

Hope other bootcampers are remaining motivated and gradually 'inching' towards their goals.

LadyBird1973 · 24/08/2023 13:43

Hi all. Am koko here. Made cheese muffins this morning. Need to do a big shop though. Think things are heading in the right direction, albeit very slowly.
I keep buying nice things off Vinted, to keep me motivated and out of the biscuit tin.
