Ryvita instead of toast?

Okay - not really acceptable but clutching at straws here... just had a rye Ryvita (6.9g carbs) with butter and marmite, instead of a slice of wholemeal toast with butter and marmite.

Surely that has to be better? NB I;m on low carb as prediabetic, not for wieght loss.

I'm afraid not, really. Yes, the numbers are better but it's still the same foodstuff and will cause the same blood sugar reaction. Could you try to move away from the 'toast mindset', if there is such a thing?😂What about a 2-egg omelette? You could always have a couple of radishes and a handful of nuts on the side if you miss that crunch.

I eat low carb for the same reasons.
I buy a bag of frozen mixed berries each week to eat with yoghurt and chia seeds for breakfast.
Lunch is usually eggs, tuna, cheese etc.
The more you stay off the bread/carbs the less you crave them.

MrsDoyle351 · 28/10/2022 08:20

I know - you're both completely right Grin

I've been trying to do this for over 2 years, and usually have Greek yoghurt with nuts or eggs for breakfast with varying ingredients.

It does get Dull after a while though.

Not at all right for bootcamp, but if you are eating low carb rather than bootcamp then livlife bread is only 4g a slice (as ais carb zone bread or small wraps). Or you can order even low per carb bread from the seriously low carb company.

The more you stay off the bread/carbs the less you crave them

This is very true

I low carb, but because I'm diabetic. Dr Karg's Protein Pumpkin seed thins are 5.9 carbs per thin. Not just pumpkin seeds, lots of others and they're very filling ,much more so than Ryvita etc . They're available in most supermarkets.

I find it easier to cut out breakfast altogether than to have breakfast without toast. Would that be an alternative? You get used to it very quickly.

@OnTheBrinkOfChange

I do on days when working

If you're desperate for bread, the Seriously Low Carb company does good bread and apparently giant rolls. They're expensive though and you need to keep them frozen as they go mouldy quickly.

I've never tried them myself but others on HFLC Boot Camp swear by them.

One occasion I make myself Tom Kerridge's bread with added seeds. It's very eggy but toasts well (although needs longer down than you expect).

That and other bread recipes are on the Vegetarian Recipe thread in the Low Carb Boot Camp topic.
